I will be attempting this exact proceedure on my HDJ81 very soon. Thank you for posting, very helpful. 👍🏼

Thanks for sharing your knowledge. You’d make a killing teaching repairs for the 80.

A trick I learned from a cruiser mechanic to get tie rods out is to take 2 hammers and swing from both sides contacting at the same time. This bows the hole just enough and the tie rods should just fall out. If you dont have room to swing from both ends pout pressure on one side and swing from the other. EDIT: I guess it's a little different when the rod goes in through the top but the same theory should apply. You just don't have gravity helping you.

Yeah I'm not sure why these were so difficult, normally a few hits will get them 😂. I ended up breaking down and getting a ball joint tool shortly after this video was filmed lol.

@@motor.mausGarage understood. I have those too and the game method is better. I've rebuilt knuckles many times and that has been the best method for me. Give it a try next time 😋

Amazing dude. Thank you so much for sharing! What/Where did you get the kit from? :-) Currently planning a coil conversion on my HJ78 using a 80s axle :)

I got all of the axle rebuild parts from Marlin Crawler!

You look pretty competent so what you say I bring my 80 over and let you have some more fun rebuilding mine? 😁😜 It's cool you can work on the street like that.

I would like to do some subscriber builds in the future, I think that would be cool! I'm looking at properties farther north so I have room for a full on shop. This 2 car garage ain't cutting it anymore 😂

thanks for posting all these videos man. I'm pretty much on the same boat as you with my 80. Going to tackle this after a coolant flush with some hose replacement. Happy new years

@@motor.mausGarage I am looking at acquiring a fzj80 in the next few months. Any advice on what year is best between 93-97? Thanks
@motor.mausGarage Жыл бұрын
People seem to like the 94+ with the 1FZ engine, myself included. I also believe there's a lot more support for 94 and up for parts. And typically the newer the year, the less time it has getting beat up, except mine it seems 😂
