Great job man, this isn't an easy DIY to do to this level. Hit up a leather worker forum and ask them for tips to smooth out the one or two loose areas, I bet those guys will get most of it out. Overall it looks amazing though, I got lucky, mine had a crumbling old Momo installed, no airbags. It was just a matter of ordering another Momo (or a wheel with a Momo pattern) and bolting it straight on to the already installed BOSS kit. It's surprisingly fun choosing a new steering wheel.

Thanks! It was definitely a little bit of a PITA, but way better than the garbage that was on there 😂. Yeah I've had aftermarket wheels on other cars I've had, it is nice shopping for them 😏

It would be cool to retrofit a newer steering wheel for the 80. Something like from a newer model Lexus or Land Cruiser 200 or something. It might seem lame but it would be nice to have a lease some steering wheel controls for music. I think you can apply some heat from a heat gun or blow dryer to take out the wrinkles and massage them out when they are warm.

That would be pretty useful, now you've got me wondering if the splines are the same 😂. Also good tip! I might give that a shot!

Absolutely disconnect your battery any time you mess with an airbag. Otherwise, nice job! I have this same project coming up in the next couple of weeks :)

What stitch pattern did you use? Baseball?
@motor.mausGarage Жыл бұрын
I believe so? It was pretty much a criss cross pattern they recommended in the instructions 🤷♂️

I guess I was difficult to see the pattern in the video, but man…watching you struggle for that long makes me just want to leave my steering wheel alone. Thanks for showing us though!!

Would've been way better spreading it over 3 days or so 😂
