Toyota is one of the only manufacturers who doesn't offer a diesel-powered pickup here as Ford, General Motors, and Fiat-Chrysler all sell midsize or half-ton trucks with compression-ignition lumps. Also its possible the Toyo diesels were not meeting US emissions standards.. For Landcuiser (100,200) at first there wasn't demand, but now they only make 3000 a year... However, with diesel demand up and fuel efficiency. Toyota is moving away from the V8 and in trucks,, Diesel could be the most effective route to make impressive amounts of torque with smaller displacement and, of course, turbocharging. In the United States Toyota filed a patent last year that appears to describe a high-compression engine, one that might even run on diesel fuel. If it makes its way into either the Tundra or Tacoma-or both-it could significantly boost fuel economy and torque. Appears diesel is on its way, but too late for the Landcruiser which the 300 will not be making it to our shores.😞

Can you confirm which headlights are on the 80?
@CruisingTheLand4 жыл бұрын
Angel eyes. Bought on ebay. They look cool, but are not great. You'd have to change your bulb. I just use them as parking lights and have the other lights for night driving.

I want to do over landing and medium off road. Is the v6 in the 80 sluggish with 35s?
@CruisingTheLand3 жыл бұрын
It is OK with 35s. You would be in the cusp of changing gearing to 4.88s At 37s you would definitely want to change gearing in axles. If you are at altitiude, like Colorado, you eould want regearing at 35s.

@vanillathunder9883 жыл бұрын
@@adventureswithsteve4278 It's an inline 6, not V6. My advice is forget about 35" tires and run 33 for better performance on road and plenty capable off road.

I currently have a 05 Ford Escape Hybrid. Wish I could afford a land cruiser. What's your opinion on the Escape?
@CruisingTheLand4 жыл бұрын
I don't know much about the Escape. I am sure they came in different configurations. But Toyota is built on a whole other level, to last 25 years without major repair and thr suspension and ATRAC is the ultimate. This would bring you beyond the reaches the Ford you get you to.

Solid axle in the rear only or the front too? You guys are wayyy spoiled downunder. You get all the good Landcruisers and diesel engines... we are even losing the LC badge in 2022, and only getting the Lexus version of the 300 series. Such a mistake by Toyota.

How does drivers seat legroom and headroom compare between the 2?
@CruisingTheLand4 жыл бұрын
Hey Josh, great question. The 100 has alot more leg room for the driver seat. FJ80 is a little tight for people 6' and taller. They didn't know about Yao Ming yet back then...Ths Fj80 is also notorious to have the a plastic piece come off the motor..most people, incl dealerships, think its a motor replacement solution, but it's actually just a 25 cent plastic piece on the spindle.

@@CruisingTheLand Oh, that sounds like a video series. LC/LX fixes that don't won't break the bank. My buddy's '01 Tundra is super clean and reliable, but his repairs are usually $350-$600, feels like the LC/LX are more $1K-$2K wjen needed, but are good for another 100K miles. 🤷♂️

@CruisingTheLand4 жыл бұрын
Not sure on the trans fluid, supposed to be an enclosed system for life. The clunk noise putting in gear is typical in those years. Like it's a loose U joint. But always get a mechanical inspection when buying!
