I have a B46 and have done all of my own work since ownership except for some warranty work. The BMW B46 in the US has a primary and secondary catalyst and the couplings for the exhaust system uses a rolled (flared) exhaust clamp form the catalytic converter to the midpipe, while the B48 uses a sleeved style receiver and clamp. The B46 has a secondary catalytic converter which adds about 50-80lbs to the exhaust system and is a one-piece welded to the exhaust system midpipe and muffler section. This is the only real difference. Everything else is the same. Pistons. Crank. Rods. etc

in germany before 2018 there is simple and easy only one cat in the downpipes leads to middle resonator and after 6/18 they added pressure sensors before and behind it, the resonator in the middle gets replaced with the OPF/GPF. Good to know that the b46 is different there

to be said the all new models receive their GPF/OPF now in the same housing with cat due to emissions right behind the turbo and also have a secondary then with the direct and indirect injection

@8020Media I'm confused as well. I'm in the US. I called the dealer today, because I'm searching for parts. A cold air intake since Jb4 now has a tune for my 2024 530i... unless the parts dept. is wrong, which would not surprise me in Miami, they told me I have a G60 B48... What do I really have ? B46, or B48 ? Thanks boss

Stamed directly on the front of the motor. In the U.S., most are B46B20B or vin decoder will just say B46d everything is explained in depth below in the comments.
