Hey folks, just a quick note to say that I've uploaded 2 instrumental versions of this track to my Soundcloud (links in the description). The first is a standard instrumental version, while the second is a "stripped down" piano + strings + synth arrangement. Enjoy!

Great job! I like today’s music and I grew up in the 80s. I feel like you created this art specifically for me.

Fun fact: The Chainsmokers used to go by the name ‘The Marlboro Smokers’ but in 1986, Marlboro threatened the duo with a lawsuit after they gained international notoriety with ‘Closer’ a single released in April 1985 in collaboration with Halsey. They changed their name but the quality of their music remained the same, with the duo being nominated for Grammy awards multiple times and finally being awarded one in 1990 for the single ‘This Feeling’ released in collaboration with well known ballad singer Kelsea Ballerini. Unfortunately, Alex Pall died in a car accident while visiting Toronto on the 30th of May 1992 when a lorry driver lost control over the vehicle and crashed into Pall’s 1991 Audi 100 Sedan Quattro, killing him instantly according to the autopsy report, brutally ending the very notorious duo. Ever since this tragic event, his friend and musical partner Drew Taggart went on to have a mildly successful solo career and even released an album that paid tribute to Alex Pall in February 1993. Even today, he is often known to release statements that hold high praise of his friend and has repeatedly released singles about him on the date of the anniversary of Alexander Pall’s death.

I remember this song. 1986, San Dimas High, watching my girl Stacey trying to get me jealous, slow dragging at the ring dance with that rich snob, Dirk Caldwell. I went to her house, that night, drove my beat up Volkswagen right up to the curb, got out and started throwing rocks at her bedroom window. I began screaming her name as it started to rain. Her ass hole Dad tried to chase me off, the neighbors threatened to call the cops, but I didn't care. I screamed STAAAAACEEEEYYYYY, I LOVE YOU! I LOVE YOU STACEY KEMPINSKI, and I want the world to know! She ran out to me, and asked, "Do you really mean it Rick, all those sweet things you said"? I nodded in silence, then said, "It's always been you Stacey, you're the only girl for me". She callled me crazy fool, jumped in my arms and we kissed on her Dad's front lawn in the rain. The world melted around us as this song continued to play. END CREDITS .....

Sounds like "Let's Wait Awhile" by Janet Jackson.

Fun fact: Janet Jackson's record company, A&M Records, sued the Chainsmokers in 1989 for using the music of her song, "Let's Wait Awhile". BIG story that year!
