Weird Al is always a welcome sight. One of the few people in my mind who can be labeled a musical comedy genius. This was the point when many considered him a fad, but he wound up outlasting many of the artists he spoofed. And for good reason. He is timeless, as is his humor. Plus, Coke using him was quite clever, given Michael Jackson was doing Pepsi advertisements around this time, I think.

Commercials were more entertaining back in the 80's than some actual shows today.

Agreed! Although I would say most. I am trying to think of a show created in the last 10 years that I even like except Game of Thrones and Stranger Things and Stranger Things plays homage to the 80s.

"Mondale pulls ahead of Reagan". Lol
@80sCommercialVault4 жыл бұрын
This was his post convention bump, but the poll cited here would have been an outlier. Reagan polled ahead of Mondale for pretty much the entire election year.
@hopegrimsley34274 жыл бұрын
Incredibly ironic considering that Reagan won by a landslide. I think the only state he didn’t win was Minnesota, Mondale’s home turf (and DC). en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1984_United_States_presidential_election. Makes me think of season 3 of Stranger Things.
@80sCommercialVault4 жыл бұрын
Again, this would have been based on an outlier poll immediately following the Democratic National Convention (held on 7/16-19/84) in which Candidates typically receive a bump in polling. Reagan was ahead in polling for pretty much the entire year leading up to the election, and nobody seriously anticipated a Mondale victory at any point.

This volume of 80's commercials is so good, especially seeing Weird Al on the thumbnail! I knew it was the Diet Coke commercial that he was on especially for his song Eat It. Also, The Corsican Brothers is considered to be one of the worst Cheech & Chong films ever made. I've seen the whole movie, & it wasn't even all that good.

I wish there was a playlist of the Olympic adverts like those here. Something especially enjoyable about watching every company try and ride the good pr of the Olympics. Personally think the 7/11 adverts based around the sponsorship of the velodrome (they didn't even know what a velodrome was when they agreed to sponsor it) is the best one by a mile.

By 1984, I think the economic accomplishments of Japan had started to pique the curiosity of the American mainstream. By 1989, a lot of Americans were probably starting to worry about their jobs. But then the economic bubble popped in the 1990's and Japan became more of an afterthought.
