80series - Main & Sub fuel system

Been driving a diesel for 15 years and just bought a petrol model. That was a surprise when I switched to sub and it emptied into the main. No one ever mentioned that. Thanks for the clarification.

I have a 2008 diesel Toyota 120 series with 2 tanks, very rare for Nicaragua wich is my home country, I would really like to know how it works, how to fill both tanks and how to know wich one is use, there is no indicator giving any info on the dash. Thanks

You managed to talk for 7 minutes about how the fuel system works without explaining how to fill the sub tank or how to pump fuel from one to the other

There’s a pull out lever next to the filler cap. Pull it out and you’re filling the sub tank. Push it back and you’re filling the main tank. The sub fuel button in the cabin is what you use to activate the pump that transfers fuel from the sub tank to the main tank.

Hey mate, Ive seen your video like 15 times. Im having some troubles with my 80 series and nor me nor my mechanic can figure it out. So the sub tank stopped sending fuel to the main one, nor matter the level on it. No lights are on in the dash, and it sounds like it is engaging the pump, but nothing. The mechanics asked toyota for the fuel diagram to troubleshoot it but no luck so far. They cleaned the solenoids and are now hoping for the best. Any suggestion? Thank you in advance!

Hey mate ,question as im installing my sub tank again. My main tank is full and sub empty i know i cant transfer fuel but should i hear solenoid click and light up if i press the sub button or will it be dead until i drop main tank and fill my sub?

Um, I believe it should still click on, but it sho6ld turn off again as no transfer is done. If it staying on then there is an issue somewhere.

Assuming are your a petrol 6 cylinder then it's 50L. For the diesel or V8 I don't know

Does the car have to be running or does the ignition have to be on?

Nah, the car does not need to be running, just the ignition key to the ON position and the sub-tank system runs

hey i recently bought a petrol 80 having an issue understanding as to how the sub tank works. If im driving along and the main tank is empty and i press the sub tank button it does it draw off enough fuel from the sub that i can continue driving along or do i have to stop and wait for the sub to fill the main?

You need to start the sub tank pump before you run out in the main tank. It will fill the main tank faster than it pulls juice Into the motor
