I had a 1982 LTD-1000 for many years. Rode it coast to coast, twice. It was my favorite bike and if Kawasaki were to do a retro production run of that bike again, I'd buy two of them!

I bought that exact year and model LTD 1000 brand new off the showroom floor. Loved that bike! 3 tickets and a driver's license suspension for 6 months followed...

A good, solid everyday rider, that might also qualify for vintage insurance. Such a nice engine too. Loads of power. I would probably put slightly lower & flatter bars on it, but otherwise just ride it.

Cycle Rider, you wrote another comment in, and for some reason it doesn't show up where I can answer it, so I'll answer it here. You asked about the tank paint. The paint on the outside is bubbling around the Kawasaki emblem. You can see this better if you go 2:09 into the movie and stop it, then again at 4:29. The inside is really nice however, and it has no leaks.

The Ltd is not my kind of motorcycle, but still it is a very nice bike! I guess that it will make the lucky buyer really, really happy!! Cheers & keep up the good work!! PS: Our Episode of the Malta Squad Series on the Z1000ST will be online on Friday, make sure to check it out! Regards from Germany & hopefully see you one day!

I had this exact bike...to this day other than my 2014 Fat Bob, the best looking bike Ive ever owned...the bike was a little cramped so highway pegs were a good edition on longer rides...she was fast...and like a woman, had her own type personality

Looks just like the 1981 I had I took off the junk Keihn carbs off and put mikuni’s with individual filters on plus a kerker racing header. Really woke it up.

Scrum Thebum2 I’m with you. I now have an ‘83 750 LTD H4 that I’m cleaning up. Now it’s already about in the condition of the 1000 in this video. I had a 1980 550 LTD from 1985-1991. My friend had the GPz550. He installed a header, pods and jet kit in his Keihnin diaphragm carbs. It never ran right again. I installed pods and raised the needles in my Mikuni throttle-slides for like 18 cents in washers, and it ran like a raped ape. I could pretty much keep up with the 700cc bikes in those days. I’m wondering if I could install Mikunis from a Kz1000 into my 750?
@scrumthebum24515 жыл бұрын
YTjndallas Can’t remember but I believe I had 36 MM mikkunis. for a 750 you would need 34 mm or 32 mm if they make them

Got one exactly like that right down to the same rusted spot on the tank. The pipes burnt out at the bottom and I had to replace with a 4 into 1 mega phone.

Clem Buck 22k on a 40 yr old bike is super low. There is always some maintenance when you purchase an older ride. If you are interested in some easy wrenching or have a reputable mechanic if you are not so inclined. Best of luck!
@Johnnysvintage5 жыл бұрын
Clem, we are currently having the seat repaired. I rode the bike about 50 miles so far and it seems nice. This is the same engine that they used in the police bikes from 82 to 2005 or so. We were selling the bike as-is, however I believe there's at least another 30-75,000 miles left on the motor before you have to do anything major to it. We've seen these bikes go over 100,000 in police use.

Clem Buck this not a lot at all. My 1991 zr750 has 62,000km on clutch has been replaced and a valve cover gasket. So I think this is a great deal should you be in the market.

Hi Johnny, Great videos. Very useful stuff. Thanks for sharing these restorations. ? I am going to see a 82 ltd 1000 that has been stored indoors and not started in 6 years. The carbs will need a good cleaning for sure. What should I do before tryig to fire it up? Should I put some oil in the cylinders first or something like that? Thanks again.
@Johnnysvintage4 жыл бұрын
I would change the oil and filter, just in case any gas got in there.Drain the carbs, inspect the clutch plates to make sure they are not stuck or broken. It may not hurt to put a little oil in the cylinders and turn the motor over by hand

My very first bike was this bike's younger, dumber brother; the '82 KZ440. Parallel twin with belt-drive. Same striping design on the tank, but with orange/brown stripes over metallic blue. Lucky I didn't kill myself on it. I don't know that I'd have been so lucky if I'd have been riding this brute.

You mentioned there was a problem with the starter button - what did you do to resolve this? I'm asking because my 1982 Z1000 LTD starter struggles to turn the engine over and when the engine's hot won't turn the engine at all. Any ideas? Thanks in advance Rob

So hopefully there's a Kawasaki mechanic in my area do you know of one? Portland or Vancouver etc. Love your KZbin and your knowledge of Kawasakis!

Fix it yourself its easy on these old standards, your jets are most likely plugged and valves need adjustment and synch carbs and check floats, steering head bearings and fork seals go out , problem bolts are so old they snap off on cam covers and other areas, I rode old bikes for years and now can't stand to ride them as they handle like a boat and suspension is poor but good for old fogeys I guess and good to tour on.
