Yeah of all the videos you did the best in making remember how easy these carbs are. Haven't done one in almost 30yrs. But watching you simplify the basics like I did them so long ago. I knew how it was running that it was just a couple curtain parts messing up. But wasn't as confident as I was 30yrs ago to dig into it. Even though this would be like my 10th one. Think got older and lost that edge. Not to mention definitely not as many spare parts around compared to my days. When my goal in life was to run these suckers into the ground. Been through 14 of them. And couldn't killm and trust me I tried. But only ones ever made me walk and that was only 2 blocks when chain broke I went from building camaro's when I was 16. To yotas at 18 when I found out was gonna be a daddy and have had atleast 1 ever since. Sadly their almost gone. And this is my last 22r my fave. I've always said these engines are just chevy 350 cut in half. And these carbs are just quadrajunks basic. But thanks great video Peace

I may have found the pesky Asian carb float bowl draining over nite problem....I removed carb, filled float bowl through the vent hose to proper level and worked both accel pumps...the next morning I found fuel leaking out the vacuum hook up for the auxiliary accel pump. Seems there is a pin hole or defect in my new pump diaphragm....Ive been chasing this problem for years and hope Ive found it....at least the fuel is not going down the manifold but is getting in the vacuum line and sucked into the motor. If it still drains I will have to go back to filling the float bowl through the vent line every morning to avoid long cranking when cold.....

Need help... through a bit of confusion separating the air horn and body, I removed the fast idle cam shaft to make the disassembly easier. Bad idea, because after reassembly I still had a mystery spring, round and black-ish in color with about a 10mm diameter and I can't figure out where it goes. The shaft for the fast idle cam is the only one narrow enough for this spring to fit on, but there seems not be enough room for it. Have you ever encountered this spring? There seems not to be an exploded diagram of this shaft and its components, to see if this mystery spring belongs on it. Thank you! And AWESOME videos, BTW. I wish I had found them earlier....

I have a float bowl drain problem as well but I’m not sure exactly what it is I think that metering rod is not adjusted and letting fuel go down into that brass port underr that plastic peace in the center I tried removing the brass port but the slot strip and weirdly enough it was slightly loose but I couldn’t remove it I have another carb and I got that one out but I don’t know how I’m gonna remove the one that’s still in there without totally destroying it and getting brass shavings everywhere I guess I can tap it with a small chisel hopefully I won’t crack anything 😂🤞

great video. also liked the one on disassembly. I am rebuilding a carb exactly like this. I put it back together but the flapper at the top next to the choke stays closed. im not sure what opens it. the arm that comes up from the bottom doesn't go up enough to drive it open. I also replaced the diaphragm for the choke but I wasn't quite sure how to position all the springs behind the choke thermostat. im not sure if I needed to rotate the thermostat when putting it back together to give it some spring tension. any comments would be appreciated. thanks

Where does the opening below the power valve go to?(0:15-0:33) I tried blowing it out with air nozzle but no flow. I tried pine sol dip, gumout carb aerosol can, air, and using guitar string to clean it out.

I also have issue with power valve that is leaking into manifold. With no vacuum (engine off) power piston is pushing power valve open. With open valve, what keeps fuel from leaking out of reservoir? You seem to have found something that keeps open valve fuel from leaking while engine off.

My 1985 22R Toyota, with engine off, float reservoir leaks fuel into intake manifold. I replaced POWER VALVE and installed full carb kit. It still leaks, but much slower. I see the power piston is pushing power valve open when I install top carb plate. Should power piston be pushing power valve open during install / engine off?

At .37 you mention checking the power valve is not "sticky? ". You mention (but do not show) a spring associated with the power valve piston you removed, in the top of the carb. Is there another spring that goes in the carb bowl (where you removed power valve) that can become "sticky" ?

Great video, thanks, just one question, I have an 86 extra cab truck with 22R engine. the chock does not keep the rpm high , when cold. it runs very rough and ideals slow and very bad. it spits out carbon until it warms up and then sits for a while. then it runs fine. it runs fine at high speed but does not ideal properly. Any ideas how to fix the chock ? I replace spark plugs and wires but did not help.

Great video...I hope you can help me out. I have an '82 Toyota Corona that has sat for a long time (months on end). I replaced the fuel pump and it worked fine for the last several months. Last week, however, I drove it one day and when I returned to use it again after a couple days, it idles fine, but dies when you step on the pedal. It starts back up, but will die again on acceleration. I could only go about 25 mph because if I pressed anymore, it would die out. I cleaned the bowl, lower throttle plates, replaced the three diaphragms in the kit, etc. to no avail. Any idea?
@TharsisOfficer Жыл бұрын
Did you ever figure this out? I would have to wonder if you're "giving it too much fuel" despite just stepping on the pedal where it could either be flooding the bowl with fuel or it's not receiving enough air.

Mine sat for a while now it will not idle or start without spraying carb cleaner down the carb like the primer has quit working. It really didn't sit that long maybe 3 months. I have drained the tank and put in fresh fuel with sea foam still not working right. It is on a 83 model 22r. Pulling my hair out looking for vacuum leaks for the idle problem but the loss of prime is ????

Forgot to say it runs fine once you prime it just will not idle then.

hello sir! does this model carb have accelerator pump check valves? My accelerator pump is barely squirting gas out and I would thing it's a clogged valve
@86locomotivebreath8 жыл бұрын
Yes it does. The check valve is a very small steel ball bearing inside the drilled passage. I've never had to replace a single one, although they come with the rebuild kits. They do certainly get clogged and need to be cleaned out, but make sure that your diaphragm is good, the should be very pliable and soft, and that the return spring underneath is in place. If you've done all of the above and it is clogged, use a can of carb cleaner with the spray straw and blast the passages well. If need be, use a very small gauge wire (like a torch tip cleaner) and poke it down into the passages to clear any debris. Keep spraying the carb cleaner and letting it soak the gunk out. When the passage is clean and dry you should be able to hear the check balls rattle. And for the final test, spray some carb cleaner or bass into the float bowl and manually depress the accelerator pump, after a few pumps it should make a healthy squirt into the primary barrel. Hope this helps and good luck!

I have a 85 , and mine won't start without being primed with gas. It runs alright after that until I get on the highway (sometimes) then it acts like it's not getting any fuel. Spit/Sputter until I let it rest. I changed the fuel filter, and I took it out and it seemed to run fine. Then I left my house, and it sputtered for a few seconds then it ran fine. My float bowl was below the middle today. Would Seafoam help fix any problems, or should I return it? Thanks for any help!!!
@86locomotivebreath8 жыл бұрын
David Regan, you could try Seafoam but I don't think it would help the problem that you're describing. What it sounds like is there is a debris in the float bowl, or the float is getting stuck. It sounds like its worth taking apart and giving it a good cleaning and some new seals too. I've found that carbs almost always run better with new gaskets and seals in them
@fomoco14548 жыл бұрын
I'd like to add that the accelerator pump fuel passage can become clogged also.
