Hi Luke. Please don't hesitate to film any rambling videos!!! They are really valuable to us because what you might consider less prepared is actually a good resource for learning natural English. I've learned a lot from when you just talked spontaneously, and I believe others do too.

Hi, Luke! Regarding why it’s beneficial to learn a language without any trace of your native accent, I’ve found that it significantly improves your communication effectiveness. It removes many barriers to language fluency, making conversations much smoother and more comfortable. Thanks for your work; it’s really fun listening to you!

❤Another nice episode! I really want to listen to all your episodes, they are all interesting!! If only I could find you earlier!! I like watching people talking about things, especially in an interesting way. I admire you for doing this nice job, sir!! You're a kind, funny smart, and selfless person! Your whole family and friends are very nice too! God, you are like a perfect person. Although you have your own struggles sometimes, You're still a very nice person. Hope you have a wonderful life. You deserve it!🎉🎉 Your voice is so positive that when I have a bad time I will listen to your podcast.❤❤I can't understand why some people give you thumbs down, It's annoying!👿Why can't they just leave, bad people. I typed these things using my limited words, hoping there weren't many improper words. It's late here in China. Oh, by the way, when you said one of your friends lived/live in China(can't remember), I was just so excited to hear my Country's name, anyway, It's time to say bye……bye……bye……bye-bye🥳🥳

I don't know if James is a guitar guy considering his background as a drummer and his passion about electronica but I think it would be cool if you 2 did an episode on your favourite guitarists. In the UK you've always had astonishing guitar players like George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Ritchie Bkackmore... Just to mention some of the most famous. Anyway, I always love any music-related content that you release, from the episode of British punk to the recent one on Madness. Cheers!

Adding some words regarding learning English and accent.. I am from China and my English definitely has a strong trace of Chinese accent, but I’ve heard A LOT OF times people commenting on my accent.. saying.. it does not have a typical regional accent (Maybe they’re just trying to be nice..) I think a lot of people adapt their accents like me. I heard them sound completely different when they talk to people from India than when they talk to people from the US. Unconsciously people just do such things, like they choose different vocabs and use different intonations and even pronunciations. So like now I don’t even care at all if I sound Chinese or Californian or non-American.. Also some accents are much easier to pick up than others. Stay in LA for one week and you’ll sound like a valley girl. But stay in the UK for a life you wouldn’t sound British 😢

Lately I ask myself "Should I learn to speak with a British accent " and listening right now this material I've got some conclusion for me.. You can learn, push your level, try remove effects of your first language but not forget be yourself and sound nature

Responding to Luke talks about around the 1-hour mark aka "the accent thing": While I understand Luke's point of "you can do whatever you want, who is stopping you and you can do whatever you want, I have to say I disagree with that sentiment. The issue for me is that this sort of attitude creates a myth that an impeccable native-like accent is everything people should strive for in English language learning, which cannot be a healthy thing because as Luke points out, it's usually unrealistic and unachievable for most people. But I'd go further than that. Essentially, those people who don't achieve it ( = 99.9 per cent of English learners) or at some point along their journey realize it's impossible to achieve are likely to struggle in terms of their confidence and fluency. This will affect their self-esteem and mindset as they'll rarely give themselves enough credit for being "good enough". It's far more valuable for people to take it easy, learn English at their own pace, and have fun in the process. They'll have far better results and feel good about themselves along the way, which will have a positive effect on their motivation, too. I've been through this and ever since I let go of the idea of wanting to sound perfect, I've felt much happier. And one more point, online ads, content creators, and some wannabe teachers on Instagram prey on people's insecurities because this myth hasn't been busted yet.

Yes, to be fair the title does refer to the screens of our phones, which Charlie Brooker has described as like a black mirror. But I am sure he's also seen Spinal Tap and that might have influenced him too.

Luke, you are a very funny person, all the time, when I'm listening to your podcasts, I start laughing at your comments about everyday things that happen to us, for example saying the wrong words in a foreign language (like you speaking in French)
