Don't care what anyone says this is the greatest league finish ever! How anyone can have City v QPR. City were in the top 2 and QPR in the bottom 4, Liverpool v Arsenal was 1st v 2nd winner takes all. Pure drama!

No, it wasn't a winner takes all. It was much simpler for Liverpool. All they had to do was not lose by 2 goals. Arsenal had to not only win at Anfield (which was nearly impossible to do), but they had to do it in convincing fashion (2 goal margin). Everything was against them going into that match, but they somehow pulled it off. The City finish was exciting, sure, but they should have won that game comfortably. QPR were dire that season. When you look at all of the surrounding details, Arsenal's winner was objectively more impressive.

@@garycheshire900 "......AN UNBELIEVABLE CLIMAX TO THE LEAGUE SEASON!" - Brian Moore - ITV I am an American Gooner and have been since 2013, and I agree that this match was certainly more historic than the City v QPR match knowing it was 1 v 2 (this) as opposed to what should've been an foregone conclusion against a relegation-battling side (City v QPR) who at one point were down to 10 men (QPR's Joey Barton picked up a red card for elbowing City's Carlos Tevez late on) Liverpool v Arsenal 1989 > City v QPR 2012 BTW, my DVD copy of "89" will be arriving soon and I already have a region-free PAL/NTSC DVD player all ready to go, as I already knew this was released only in Region 2 in PAL format. #COYG!!!

I just finished watching Fever Pitch so I came to see these videos. It's Jan 3, 2023. Arsenal is at the top of the league table at the moment. It's been 19 years since their last league title... Something tells me they will do it come May =)

I'm a Liverpool fan, pretty much because of this match. It was an amazing night. If Liverpool hung on I may have become an Arsenal fan as my brother is one. Cool head from Thomas. It's mad that so few fans even know of this game. Definitely the most incredible ending to a season in living memory. RIP Rocastle and Ablett.

I doubt they'd make a movie about this had Liverpool held on. Kind of bitter sweet memory for me as a Liverpool fan. But Thomo made up for it a few years later by doing something similar at the opposite end in the 90th to stop Man U from winning their first title in 25 or so years. Granted, not as dramatic, but typical sudden burst of pace surging run from the midfield while shaking off even his own team mate. Where he stored all that energy, I don't know. The man's a legend!

In terms of drama and excitement the City game is a very distant second to Anfield 89 City were totally expected to beat QPR. Nobody, not the bookies, not the media, not the commentators thought Arsenal could do it. Plus QPR were near the bottom of the table while Liverpool v Arsenal was the top two teams playing each other on the last day of the season both still able to win the league. Arsenal needed to win by 2 goals, and scored the second goal in stoppage time!!! It just can’t be beat

I liked parts of it, was a little disappointed they chose to show footage of a team talk from 18 months later pretending it was in preparation for this game when it was actually from the fallout from the Old Trafford punch up in late 90. They also gave Ian Wright a lot of interview time (love Wrighty legend and all) but he wasn't in that team

Every pub we went passed had a lot of upset Liverpool fans outside which is understandable. If anybody who reads this was on that bus with me and my mate Mark who is six foot ten please respond. Colin Paynter I beg to differ I’m afraid. It’s not just about the price you pay a club for a player. You must be well aware of the hidden ‘incentives’ and the ‘financial gifts’ given to players the moment they agree to sign? Look at PSG. Mbappe goes there on loan with a view to making it permanent. The only reason he wasn’t bought is because it would have breached the fifa fair play rules regarding transfers. Do you think he has been given a back hander by PSG? You better believe he has! Without the money, Man City had Darius Vassell up front. Who? Darius Vassell! That’s the type of player they could attract. Then came the money and suddenly, a Brazilian superstar (the then equivalent of today’s neymar) agreed to join. How on earth did that happen? £15m under the table in his bank account is how. In addition, massive wages. That’s how you begin to buy the premier league. Finally, between 2009 and when they won the league Man City set about buying players from direct rivals to a top 4 spot to weaken them whilst strengthening their squad. From Everton, Man Utd, Aston Villa (who were a good team in those days and finished 6th in 2010) and of course finally several players from Arsenal. As a business plan it was excellent. But that’s all it was, a money rich business plan. It was not the finding and building a unique winning squad of players by clever football minded managers. Just a business plan.
