The Last are no idiots. In all likelihood, they would have been smart enough to leave a contingent of ships out of the system to ensure the survival of their Species should the worst happen. They are going after death worlders after all. A mission unprecedented in their centuries of genocide. Humanity’s leaders and Stellar League officials probably thought of this. Why risk a resurgence? Send a strong, clear message with the sparing of the majority of their Species and the destruction of a weapon only suitable for genocide as a peace overture, or wipe out almost all of them and watch as the survivors regrow their numbers in secret, build a new Craft and fleet and repeat history perhaps thousands of years later.
@stalwartteakettlepotato98793 жыл бұрын
@@kyleeames8229 the last thought they had the element of suprise when they changed their target. Even if they had such a contingency plan the vast majority of their species and their infrastructure is on the craft. If the craft is captured or destroyed that's not something the last can recover from in year or two. Not to mention that the league could just create a bunch of search and destroy task forces and send them to roam unexplored space. The last at that point would have an option to split their fleet which would further increase the time they need to recover or risk getting the entire fleet chought by staying together. The amount of industry and supporting infrastructure to even be able to build supperships such as the craft isn't something you can hide esaly. It would take the last hundreds if not a thousand years for them to run far enough and build up enough to even consider trying to attack the league again. That's more then enough time for the leagu to either develop weapons that make large ships obsolete or to build up a fleet of supperships of their own. Now consider the alternative. If the last are convinced to stop their war it would cause a large culter shock and a morality crisis in their society. Their society for who knows how many generations was and still is entierly based on a never ending war of extermination. If they are convinced that they were wrong and they still had control over the craft and their fleet all it would take is a terrorist attack by an extremists group and the last would be convinced, stronger then ever before, that all xenos are an unacceptable threat to their survival.
@kyleeames82293 жыл бұрын
Well, you make some good points. To be honest, I may just be playing devils advocate to your position at this point but space is huge; we struggle to find rogue planets even in our own corner of space and even highly energetic phenomena like neutron stars. With the vast resources at the disposal of an interstellar civilization like the Stellar League, we would surely be able to search more of space but to say there’s nowhere to hide is grossly inaccurate. Moreover, even if it takes the remaining Last tens of thousands of years to recover, any competent civilization considers matters of the distant future as much as their resources and short-term conditions can possibly allow; especially once they grow to the scale of star systems and stellar clusters, though frankly we should start worrying about our future even as a mere planetary warring nations society. My point is that the Human society made a good call in this hypothetical war because a substantial relief and aid effort post-war combined with some very good diplomatic maneuvering may well be sufficient to ensure that the Last never go back to being space nazis. If the Craft were captured or destroyed, any surviving Last would invariably see this as an unforgivable hypocrisy. “So you don’t like genocide, you say? There’s only a few tens of thousands of us left!” The culture shock and internal conflict would eventually wear off, and that can be helped along by admittedly great effort on the part of the Stellar League. Besides, they’re so cute when they aren’t space nazis. LOL. you can’t honestly say you don’t want a talking space kitty as a friend.

FYI the 57mm gun in the mosquito was adapted from the 6lb anti-tank gun which was in common use. The big change was the addition of a 21-round auto-loader. The 6lb could penetrate the front armour of a PzIV at 100m (which is definitely not practical!). However, it means that it could penetrate the rear armour of just about any German tank of the period. Firing this from an aircraft had increased its effective muzzle velocity.

Let this be an example to ALL of you how Sentient beings SHOULD behave. In the face of war, disable weaponry, and show why war is a bad Idea. Even from a logical standpoint, war is a horrible idea. A waste of resources and lives that would be put to much better use improving both sides, or facilitating trade between them.

It is very fitting for wars in these kinds of stories to be fought above Mars, the god of war. And Phobos, 'fear' to render the enemies offense useless

erm...sorry, I'm a bit confused here: why exactly is the person piloting a warship the size of a planet not only not thinking of actions that can be taken on a planetary scale but also utterly flabbergasted by their opponent chucking a couple of miniature moons at their ship? they just mentioned a frigging Dyson Array a minute earlier, point that thing at a planet and now you have a rocket engine half the size of a planet pushing that planet, point that thing at the incoming planet-sized warship and it stops being a problem in fairly short order, attacking this system with their described forces against it's described resources is utter suicide, hell, by the sounds of how things were going the only reason just facing the conventional fleet portion of the system's defenses wasn't a suicidal proposition was because the defenders were going to extreme effort to disable instead of destroy.
