There is an interesting relationship between reality and our perception of reality. The map does not always match the territory. This is what is meant by MAYA or illusion. It is not that the world is insubstantial and does not exist but that our perception of the wold is distorted by our fear and ego, by our prejudice and misperceptions, by our personal bias and desires. It is not an easy feat to reach a place of objectivity, equanimity and healthy distance. In Zen Buddhism there is a saying CAN A TOOTH BITE ITSELF. The meaning of this statement is that the human mind trying to observe itself objectively is nearly impossible. This is no easy feat. Some say it is virtually impossible. Using the modern tools of science and psychology we have come to a better understanding of human nature by the careful observation of others. The monk's obsession with attempting to observe the self through the philosophy of a contradictory and outdated system may be a solipsistic pursuit. Many people misunderstand what liberation truly means. It is not death or some heavenly paradise. It is freedom. Freedom from the trap of fear, greed, envy, vanity, ego, insatiable desires, and delusion. Freedom from the obsessive need for power and control. It does not mean becoming some deluded person who thinks he can transcend human weakness by renouncing the world. It hit me like a bolt of lightning one day while I was thinking about this philosophical paradox. The premise in Buddhist thought is that we are nothing more than a series of conditioned responses. That the mind is the aggregate of our physical senses, our cognition, our memories, our social and biological conditioning. This is true, however it does not mean that we are nothing more than animals driven by our instincts. Or that we are merely products of our cultural milieu. We are self aware and capable of change and growth. We have the capacity for free will. With understanding we are capable of clear objective thinking and wise productive behavior. One aspect of our existence and our reality is the internal experience which we perceive through our limited and imperfect senses. We experience life through the medium of our bodies, our senses and our mind. Our perception of reality is filtered through our limited senses, and our imperfect understanding of ourselves and the world around us. We view the world through a lens darkly. It colors our perceptions. Much like a child looking at the world around him through a kaleidoscope. This delusion created by our mind is not the totality of existence, it is our experience. It does not negate reality altogether and anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is misleading you. There is the world without and the world within. They are not identical. The illusion created by our misperceptions and our own confabulations is not the sum total of reality. To say that the world only exists in our mind, and that the mind itself is an illusion and unsubstantial is a crime against humanity. It is nothing but a clever argument meant to gaslight you, to trick you into doubting your own existence and perceptions. To make you into a follower who doubts their own feelings and intuition. You exist you are not an illusion. Even if life was nothing but a dream, a dream still needs a dreamer. The very fact that you are having any experience at all, even if it is delusional and misperceived means that someone is having an experience and therefore must exist. Consciousness is a product life and the body. The goal of enlightenment is to find your True Authentic Self not to merge into nothingness. Its aim is to shed ourselves from the grandiose False Self of our Narcissistic Defenses. Not so we can become God or merge with the Devine but so we can become evolved self aware human beings who are not controlled by our deluded minds, animal passions and social conditioning. We mistakenly believe our minimized or grandiose internal image of ourselves to be our who we are. Not realizing that this is just a distorted negative image or an inflated fantasy that we create in our minds to protect us from the pain of feeling vulnerable, afraid and alone. The Buddhist concept of Anatma is misunderstood even by so called Buddists. What is insubstantial is the conditioned and deluded self, not our very existence. Our true self is very real. We are a manifestation of the miracle of life. We are the universe in motion. If the universe is a beautiful and mysterious creation then we are one of its highest expressions, its greatest achievement. Despite our limitations we are self aware and evolving. We are conscious beings who inhabit this brief and miraculous moment in time.

In the book “Buddha from Babylon” by Harvey Kraft, we are shown new research which indicates that Gautama Siddartha, the Sakyamuni Buddha was none other than Gaumata, the mage who seized control of the Persian empire (in the absence of Bardiya, son of Cyrus the Great) until he was deposed in a coup headed by Darius I, in which he escaped execution and fled to Kapul (Kabul, Afghanistan). “Sakyamuni” is actually “Saka muni” meaning “Sage of the Saka”... the “Saka” or “Scythians” were an Iranian people living in the north and the the eastern extremities of Iranian lands at the time... it is from here that Gaumata/Gautama entered the ascetic life before reaching enlightenment as the Buddha.

He cannot help you against his will nor can he show himself because proof off god would destroy free will. The only thing god can do is respond when you sincere ask for it with the whole of what you are. Ever heard about the ego ? I believe it is the ego wich stops us from doing this and the ego is mainly constructed by the left side of the brain ,the right side doesnt really deal in seperateness. You could say you have to give your ego to god. Or you just say the left brain ,because it is a product of that brain.
