@geetarnut11 жыл бұрын
Hi, the front screw is LOW SPEED fuel! Start by turning in fully! DON'T TIGHTEN! Simply turn it 2 full turns out!, counting the turns, start the motor. Then, slowly, turn it while running only a quarter turn each time, OUTWARD. Wait 2 minutes for motor to catch up in rpm! This tells if fuel delivery's rich enough! When rpm stays the same, you turn the screw INWARDS, again, at 1/4 turns,, until rpm increases noticeably, and if the motor starts to cough, turn the screw out until it smooths out!

A little late but the motor doesn’t need to be running to move it in and out of gear
@edwardhill69452 жыл бұрын
YES. The service manuals state, “do not force the shift lever when the motor is not running”. If you need to do it, & the lever won’t shift easily, turn the flywheel while moving the lever…but do not force it.

Do you run it with 100:1 fuel ratio?
@edwardhill69452 жыл бұрын
No, do not do that! Under pressure from EPA, the manufacturers stated to run 100:1. There was a sticker showing 100:1 beside the fuel line connection. That lasted for only 3 years, until they started cooking engines. The recall consisted of removing the original sticker & replacing it with one showing 50:1
@SkinE-Vadee-Veechee11 ай бұрын

This engine is quite difficult to sync up properly (according to specs). The first step is to set the idle timing, there is an timing stop on the port side under the flywheel. The idle cracking screw does help set idle speed also, but the cam pick up screw must be backed out first. The cam pick up is set after idle speed/mixture is set. The air box and gasket must be properly installed, or the engine will run lean at WOT. Like I said, an overly complicated process indeed!

why do they have to make boat motors so complicated ? why not just use a 4 stroke 7HP briggs motor with a 4 speed tranny ? i understand that 2 stokes like to rev but if you put a 4 speed gear box behind that 4 stroke, it would be just as good.
@edwardhill69452 жыл бұрын
The complexity of a 4 speed gearbox, along with the cost just wouldn’t be economical. Further , the motor would weigh 100lbs, & the noise of a Briggs would be unacceptable.

Well, admittedly this is one of the most "over designed" engines we ever produced at OMC...All the silly adjustments just add confusion, and don't make it run any better than the simpler metal carbs... In any event, The spring loaded screw is the throttle cracking screw. And it surely does have an effect on the idle speed, but the idle speed is set by setting the idle timing with a slotted stop on the port side of the engine. This engine will NOT run properly at high speed without the airbox..
