Note: HIDDEN LOW SCREW! Hi guys. What I should have mentioned is that these carburetors, on these strimmers have two adjuster screws. The one shown, as well as a tiny screw at the very top of the carb. I didn't include the adjustment of the latter screw because i was trying to keep my explanation simplistic. The adjustments I made in this vid are a more common, quick adjustment, but if this does not correct your adjustment issues, then the other screw at the top will need to be adjusted. I will make a video on how to do this. Thanks and sorry I didn't include it in this video. Craig

Great video and visual explanations. Glad I found your channel. What should I do if the engine never bogs down when I turn the fuel mix screw all the way out until right before it completely unthreads? If you could include that in your new video I would appreciate it very much.

Just found this after repairing a friends trimmer(bmc g wizz make) which had been stood for a while.Evenrually found the fuel pipe in tank had split so would not prime up unless it was tilted.Just fitted new and ran up engine but struggled to rev ,tweaked thus screw and improved it but this video will be a big help to re adjust settings as i have no owners manual,,thank you .

Single screw? What about the tiny hidden screw at the top of the carburetor? It's usually hidden under a little rubber piece inside the gold circle piece on the throttle cable hookup.
@martinlang9615
@martinlang9615 Жыл бұрын
He is calling it a “single screw”, because most are a double screw (high and low). Yes there is the idle screw, and I have another (on the single screw carby) but this one has about 4 settings and is on the metal cam the throttle cable attaches to. Not quite sure what this does.

A great video. Thanks a lot. Incidentally, my hedge trimmer had the adjusting screw in a recess and with a pacman head (slot on one edge). So I jammed a nylon rawl plug onto its 5mm dia head and unscrewed it fully and then cut a slot in the top for a normal screw driver to fit, as I don't have a pacman screw driver.

Chainsaw carbs has two visible screws on side marked as HI and LO. This trimmer style carb has one on side like on video and second screw is on top of throttle flap inside needle covered by little black plug. Adjusting of this screw Its not very important if you have original carb where it was set by manufacturer. There is large margin between stall low speed and clutch engage speed and you can compensate little wrong adjustment of low speed screw by increasing or decreasing idle speed. But if you rebuild carb with new membranes or change whole carb with non OEM part you need adjust LO-speed screw too because it has huge impact on acceleration performance. If its too much offset engine can chokeing or full stall after aggressive full throttle applied or stall after throttle is released quickly even if engine running good on idle by itself. This two screw setting affecting each other little bit, you need to adjust first, then second and return to first and second again. Its better adjusting carb in neutral weather condition. Not in garage in rainy day when it is too humid, not on hot sunny day when temperature attacking 35°C because with this setting engine can run rough two weeks later when temperature drops to 20°C.

I totally agree with you that there is indeed a screw at the top of these types of carburetor. What I should have done though, is mentioned this in the video. I was trying to show a more basic and common adjustment to the carb without going into too much detail and keep things simplistic for the viewer. Thank you for your detailed explanation.

Looks like the exact same carb as on a Chinese trimmer I picked up for dirt cheap second hand, and maybe even the exact same trimmer. Except they're sold here under a brand that pretends to be German 😅 anyway, it's a good enough trimmer. It was sold as broken, I dismantled the carb and the only thing that seemed to be wrong was that the metering valve was sticking. Gave it a few wiggles, put it back together, started on the second pull and runs like a charm.

I have a question for you. I have a carb just like that other than it has the low jet adjustment down through the center of the rotating shaft. I have a tanaka trimmer that has almost the identical carb with the exception that it doesn't have the primer bulb on the bottom and doesn't have the high speed jet adjustment. The primer bulb is part of the air filter housing. It runs rich at wide open throttle. Can I take the primer bulb off this carb, install a plain cover and use the primer bulb that is part of the air filter housing. This would give me a high speed jet adjustment.

Hi. When a two-stroke engine, like the one in your line strimmer, revs higher when placed on its side, it’s often due to changes in fuel or air flow caused by the position of the carburetor and fuel tank. Here’s a breakdown of why this happens: 1. Fuel Flow Changes: In two-stroke engines, fuel is typically drawn up from the tank into the carburetor by suction. If the strimmer is tipped, fuel might flow more freely to the carburetor, leading to a richer fuel mix and potentially increasing the RPMs. 2. Carburetor Orientation: Carburetors are designed to operate optimally when positioned upright. When you tip the strimmer, fuel and air passages in the carburetor may not work as intended, which can lead to temporary changes in the air-fuel ratio and result in higher revs. 3. Gravity on Fuel Mixture: The tilt can also affect the way fuel is delivered from the tank to the carburetor. In some cases, tilting might allow more fuel to be drawn, which can make the engine run faster. 4. Air Leaks or Engine Wear: In some cases, higher revs on tilting might also indicate air leaks or engine wear that make the engine sensitive to positional changes. If the increase in revs is only slight and temporary, it’s generally not a big issue. However, if it’s a significant change or affects performance, it might be worth having a technician check the fuel system or carburetor. Have a great day Craig

Hello Craig, I have just got my McCulloch 210 strimmer working but, the speed is a bit higher than it should be, it does reduce for about a minute, but any idea why not an instant reduction.?🤔😊
@TheRepairSpecialist
@TheRepairSpecialist Жыл бұрын
Hello, I'm delighted to hear that you've managed to get your McCulloch 210 strimmer up and running! It's always a great feeling when equipment starts working again. I understand your concern about the idling speed taking a bit of time to reduce. Let me offer some insights: Warm-Up Period: It's quite common for two-stroke engines, like the one in your strimmer, to have a brief warm-up period during which the engine runs at a higher RPM. This initial high-speed phase helps the engine reach its optimal operating temperature, ensuring smoother operation. This warm-up period typically lasts for about a minute or so, as you mentioned. Idle Adjustment: You may have an idle adjustment screw on the carburetor of your strimmer. If you'd like to achieve a quicker reduction in speed after startup, you can try adjusting this screw slightly. However, please exercise caution when making adjustments and refer to your strimmer's manual for specific guidance. Routine Maintenance: Regular maintenance, such as cleaning the air filter and ensuring the fuel lines are in good condition, can also contribute to smoother idling and overall engine performance. Fuel Mixture: Verify that you are using the correct fuel mixture as recommended by the manufacturer. An incorrect fuel mixture can affect idling speed and engine performance. Professional Inspection: If you've tried the above suggestions and the issue persists or worsens, it might be advisable to seek the expertise of a local small engine repair specialist. They can inspect the carburetor and other components to ensure everything is in proper working order. Remember, your safety is of utmost importance when dealing with machinery, so exercise caution throughout the process. I hope these insights help you achieve the desired idling speed for your strimmer, and that you can enjoy its efficient performance for all your trimming needs. Happy gardening! I hope this helps a little but please understand that I have had to be quite broad with my answers because its not always easy to diagnose something unless I am with the saw. See if you have any luck and feel free to mesage me again if you nee to. Thanks Craig

Can different carbs be fitted on a machine, or is there something to look for to be sure.?
@TheRepairSpecialist
@TheRepairSpecialist Жыл бұрын
Hi. Thank you for your inquisitive question, and I will try to answer it based on my knowledge, but the answer is both yes and no in my opinion. I've laid down my reasons below: Carburetors are indeed specific to particular engine types and applications (In most cases), and there are several factors to consider to ensure a proper fit. Here's what you should look for when determining whether a carburetor can be fitted on a machine: Engine Compatibility: Carburetors are designed to match the specific requirements of an engine, including factors like engine size, fuel type (gasoline or diesel), and the engine's air and fuel mixture needs. It's crucial to choose a carburetor that is compatible with your engine's specifications. Throttle Type: Different engines use different types of throttles, such as single-barrel, two-barrel, or four-barrel carburetors. Make sure the carburetor you are considering matches the throttle type of your engine. Airflow Capacity: Carburetors come in various sizes, which determine the amount of air and fuel they can mix. The size of the carburetor should be appropriate for the engine's power requirements. An oversized or undersized carburetor can negatively impact engine performance. Mounting Compatibility: Check the mounting pattern and arrangement of the carburetor to ensure it can be securely attached to your engine's intake manifold. Adapters or modifications may be needed if the mounting doesn't match. Fuel Type: Verify that the carburetor is designed for the type of fuel your engine uses. Some carburetors are specifically made for gasoline, while others may be suitable for alternative fuels like ethanol or propane. Jetting and Tuning: Carburetors often require tuning to optimize the air-fuel mixture for a particular engine. Understanding the jetting and tuning requirements of the carburetor is essential to achieve optimal performance. Manufacturer Recommendations: Consult the manufacturer's guidelines and specifications for both the engine and the carburetor. They often provide recommendations for compatible carburetors based on the engine's requirements. All that said, some carburetors can be changed (re-jetted etc, to fit different engines that are similar in size, and require air/fuel ratios similar to the Carbs original application, just 'tweaked' a little basically. In summary, carburetors are not one-size-fits-all components. To ensure compatibility and optimal performance, it's essential to carefully match the carburetor to the specific engine type and requirements. If you have a particular engine or carburetor in mind, it's a good idea to consult with the manufacturer or a knowledgeable mechanic for guidance on the best fit for your application. I hope this helps a little Thanks Craig

Well if you have set the carburetor correctly then it could be a whole host of issues. Main crank seals leaking, Carburetor in need of cleaning and service, fuel tank cap kit venting incorrectly, inlet manifold gaskets leaking, to mention a few. It might be best to take it to a mechanic if you are still having issues. I hope you get it fixed ok soon though. Craig

Hi. Big question with hopefully some help, as it’s driving me made. I have a strimmer that uses the same carburettor. I have 3 of these carbs. 1 works fine, starts when cold etc. 2 + 3 won’t start when cold. However, when the strummer is warm, they work fine. I have stripped/cleaned and replaced gaskets etc, but still no difference. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for any possible help.
@TheRepairSpecialist
@TheRepairSpecialist Жыл бұрын
Hello there! First off, it sounds like you've been really thorough with your maintenance, which is great! Small two-stroke carburetors can be finicky, and the issue of cold starts can indeed be maddening. Since one of your carburetors is working fine, you're clearly doing a lot right. Considering that Carburetors 2 and 3 work well when the strimmer is warm, it suggests that your cold start issue may not be related to the fuel mixture or the gaskets. Here are a few things you might want to check: Choke Functionality: Make sure the choke is functioning properly. The choke helps enrich the fuel mixture when starting cold by reducing the amount of air. If it's not engaging or disengaging correctly, it can cause starting issues. Primer Bulb: Since you mentioned they're purge primer type carbs, the primer bulb should be firm to the touch after a few presses when cold. If it's not, it could be a sign of an air leak or a problem with the primer itself. Fuel Quality: Double-check the fuel mixture. Stale fuel or an incorrect mix of oil and gasoline can cause starting problems, especially in cold conditions. Spark Plug: Inspect the spark plug. A dirty or worn-out spark plug may not provide a strong enough spark for a cold start but can perform adequately once the engine is warm. Air Filter: Even though you've replaced gaskets, ensure that the air filter is clean. A clogged air filter can restrict the airflow, making cold starts difficult. Carburetor Adjustment Screws: Your carburetor actually have two adjuster screws on these. The common large screw on the side that adjusts for High RPM and there is another, hidden screw at the very top of the carb. This is for the LOW RPM. This usually doesn't need adjusting but in your case it might. Take a look at the top where the throttler turns. In the center there is a screw (you might need to remove some tiny plastic bung to get to the screw). Adjust this at LOW RPM if you feel there is any idling issues. Carburetor Internal Passages: While you've cleaned the carbs, there may still be some small passages that are clogged. Sometimes, ultrasonic cleaning by a professional can resolve issues that standard cleaning can't. It can be a process of trial and error, but don't lose hope! It's always the little details that make the difference with small engines. If you've checked all the above and still can't find the culprit, it might be worth taking them to a professional who can give them a once-over. Sometimes a fresh pair of eyes can spot something you've missed. Keep at it, and I'm confident you'll get those stubborn carbs to cooperate. Good luck! In the meantime please let know know how you get on with it! Thank you Craig

@@TheRepairSpecialist Thank you for the quick reply. I checked 2&3 again. 2 has a split pink non return valve, which must let air in somewhere and not hold the fuel. The fuel itself is new (or constantly replaced ) as it is used a lot. The plug could do with a change, but as it starts with No1, I thought that it would be ok. I have ordered some more parts etc. With new carbs being as little as £11, it’s not a massive issue….but, I hate not knowing why, and it’s worse when they work with a warm engine!! . Also I would rather fix than throw away. Thanks again. The battle continues!! 🤣

One question if you're so nice... I have a Procraft Gd 62 49cc engine and I can't idle it (throttle to minimum) because the engine dies. No matter how much I adjust the carburetor or the idle screw (the one connected to the throttle cable), the engine dies when I turn the throttle to minimum. It works (I hit about 50-60 holes with it) but I have to keep the shock half way and it's not ok because it gets hot. I have it for a few weeks and it has been like this for nine ... What could be the causes? Impulse hole partially plugged? Any other adjustment from another screw that I don't know about? Should I purchase another carburetor? Thank you very much!

There is a screw to set the idle that this fella didnt mention , it's at the top of the throttle body in the brass ring but it has a rubber bung in it , remove the bung and the screw is under it , it's a very fine flat screw head and adusts the idle mixture

I am working on an Echo GT-2010 trimmer with a Walbro single adjustment screw carburettor. It idles nice but runs to rich at full throttle. When I adjust it to run perfect a full throttle, it will not idle. I took the carburettor apart, cleaned it and replace diaphragms etc. but nothing changed. It has 190 psi compression. Any ideas ?
@TheRepairSpecialist

Ok, it's good to hear you have cleaned the carb. Have you set the idling with the separate idling screw? I would get it to idle by adjusting the idling screw first, then rev up and set it with the single adjuster screw for high rpm. then see if it works better. Thanks Craig

@@TheRepairSpecialist its a single screw carburettor, so no high/low screw.
@TheRepairSpecialist
@TheRepairSpecialist Жыл бұрын
The single Screw is for both the High and Low fuel to air mixture adjustment, but there still should be a separate screw for the idling speed. Usually above the single screw adjuster, at the very top of the carb where the throttle cable meets the carb

Sorry to hear you have been having problems. A small 2-stroke weed eater that only operates on the choke setting is frequently the result of a lean fuel mixture or a restricted fuel supply. By limiting the amount of air that reaches the engine, the choke setting can temporarily make up for a lean mixture by enabling a larger concentration of fuel to enter the combustion chamber. Here is a more thorough explanation of the causes of this problem: Fuel Flow Blockage: Inspect for any obstacles or blockages in the fuel tank, its lines or blocked fuel filter. A restricted fuel flow may lead to a lean fuel mixture. The fuel tank cap also has a special valve allowing air into the tank as fuel leaves, make sure this is venting well. To test this I run the engine with the tank slightly cap loose for a few minutes and see if the the engine runs better. If so, the tank is not venting correctly. Of course be sure not to allow fuel to spill out causing any dangers. To find out if the fuel filter is at fault, remove it and run the engine for a few minutes (providing there is not too much dirt in the tank) and see if it runs better. Then you will know if it is the fuel filter. I would then do the same with the air filter. Just for a very short while to see. Next, Dirty Carburetor: The engine may not be receiving enough fuel due to clogged jets, passageways, or a filthy needle valve in the carburetor. It might be necessary to clean or overhaul the carburetor. Lean mixtures can occur in engines due to air leaks in the intake system (inlet boot/manifold) which can be caused by cracked crankshaft seals, defective gaskets or the boot itself. Look for any obvious leaks, or while the engine is running, check for air leaks using a carburetor cleaner. Insufficient Fuel Delivery: It's possible that the carburetor's diaphragm or fuel pump aren't providing enough gasoline. Check for damage and make sure these parts are operating properly. Inaccurate Fuel Mixture: Verify that the fuel tank's oil-to-gasoline ratio is precisely as directed by the manufacturer. A lean state may result from an improper combination. Broken or Stuck Primer Bulb: Make sure it's operating properly. A broken primer bulb can prevent fuel from getting to the engine. As it is common, I will emphasize again here about a Blocked Fuel Filter: Look for obstructions in the fuel filter. Fuel flow to the carburetor may be restricted by a clogged filter, producing a lean mixture. Again, with the Clogged Air Filter: A clogged or dirty air filter can impede airflow, leading to a state of being too lean. As needed, clean or replace the air filter. Condition of Spark Plug: A worn-out or fouled spark plug can interfere with combustion and cause a lean mixture. If the spark plug is damaged or old, replace it. Problems with the Throttle Cable or Linkage: Check to make sure the throttle cable and linkage are not stuck or bound, since this might impact the air intake and throttle responsiveness. I have a query concerning your weed eater now: Has the problem of it only running on the choke setting recently been caused by any modifications you made to the carburetor, parts you replaced, or fuel mixture you altered? I look forward to hearing from you Craig

how many Rpm can that engine produce

Thank you for your question! The RPM (revolutions per minute) that a small strimmer (string trimmer) engine can produce can of course vary depending on the make and model of the engine. Small strimmer engines typically operate in a range of 6,000 to 10,000 RPM, but this can vary. To be honest, I haven't measured the RPM on this particular machine but i would put a guess at it being something like what i have mentioned. Thanks. Craig
