Agree about modernising an old engine with new technology. I'm modernising an old BMC A-series from a Morris Mini with a late 60's Arden 8-port head. I'm adapting a set of Yamaha YZF-R6 DBW throttle bodies to the head, adding a crank sensor, cam sensor, knock sensor, individual LS1 coils, and all controlled by the Nexus R3 VCU. Should be interesting to see how refined an old engine can become with the latest technology.

Nice job on the steering rack conversion. Ive refused to convert my car because i know how many intricacies there are to doing it and making it work better than what it was. I have it figured out now doing something sort of similar with a center block rack from an acura with a travel bar to replicate the original geometry. So many people think" ill just throw a rack in it not knowing how many things are going to make it terrible if not done correctly.

Haha classic, my old man had a left hook early 80s F350 with a 460 big block in it and he used to drag people off the lights making all of of the noise and people would always spin out and do a double take when they caught up and saw little 10 year old me in the "drivers" seat reading a book or somethin... good times

As someone with a 7.0 liter BBC that is both efi and electronic spark control - there are days when I want to throw the EFI at the nearest egghead because it does not live well with radical cams... to the point that it runs best when I tell it what fuel to flow at what rpm/tps.... you know, what a carb does naturally and better and without the drama.

@@theskidfactory sniper, but it was FiTech before (changed for different reason) though FiTech didn't have computer controlled ignition with the 8 injector TBI. With that said, same trouble with EZ-efi....
@stoneshrink

I will add to all of this that the fix is a terminator and port injection with coil per cylinder ignition.... but it's racing season and a really dumb move would be a major ignition and injection change. It's bandaided for now, but there are moments when I do look at the Holley that started the motor and sigh.

Hands down these are my favourite American car. I know stock they’re pretty horrendous but just look at it! Probably why I like the starions, they’re kinda like a 3/4 size version. Always wanted to fit the Sapporo quad headlights to a starion and complete the look.

Impressive build! As much as I love modern efi, those carbies are cool. I remember that Hot Rod Garage did a test with carbies and efi, and there were no gains wrt hp for going efi. If the car has turned into a mostly drag race car, how important is driveability? I say keep the carbies! I've never liked the look of those IROC camaros, but seeing this car, it looks really good. It took me 20 years or so to come to appreciate the looks :)

My 1986 Trans Am actually came factory with an Australian Borg Warner 9-bolt rear end. It was an American left-hand drive Trans Am so I'm not sure why it had the Australian 9-bolt rear end instead of the 10-bolt rear end but apparently GM decided to do that in some of the mid-80s F-Body cars.
@lb9gta307
@lb9gta307 Жыл бұрын
The BW 9 bolt was a bit stronger than the 10 bolt. That's why they were used in F bodies. And they're not really uncommon. Pontiac being the more premium brand used them from 85-90 in performance package Firebirds. Chevy used them in performance package Camaros from 87-90.
