I know the fire on Mt. Baldy is very close. You can see the slight tint on the video from the fire. I live in the high desert close to the fires and our skies are redand eerie again today . 😢I hope they are safe.

It looked to me like it wasn't ants. It appears to be some kind of super sticky grass stuck to the tip of her beak. It was so irritating to her, she produced several drops of 'drool' (I counted 4) to try to release it starting at the 5:00 mark.

Nestorations should begin soon! They will bring sticks and reeds to make sure the nest is ready. Jackie has laid eggs from January to March in the past but we never know when she will lay the eggs for the new season.

Was it lightly raining during this nest visit? Jackie was indeed shaking her head, seemingly to dislodge something she stirred up when digging around, but I noticed fluid dripping several times from her beak before she flew away. Did anyone else notice that or know what that was?

Eagles pant to keep cool. They do not have sweat glands so the panting helps them cool off!

Eagles do not sleep in nests unless there are eggs or eaglets in the nest to protect. Jackie and Shadow do have a roost tree nearby they sleep in. Eagles sleep standing up! I hope this helps!

Hello! Jackie is larger than Shadow. Jackie has a larger and longer beak as well. Shadow’s head is very round that makes him look a little goofy while Jackie’s is flat! I hope this helps!

Eagles mate year-round, however, females are only fertile a few times a year, for a few weeks at a time. In the past, the egg laying season has been January through March. I hope this helps!

Hello! They are currently in their off season. Soon they will start “nestorations” to add more sticks and reeds to prepare for the egg laying season. In the past, eggs have been laid from January through March.

Jackie is larger than Shadow! Jackie’s beak is also longer and larger than Shadow’s. In contrast, Shadow’s head is extremely round while Jackie’s is very flat! I hope this helps!
