I was born and raised in Tennessee, I still live in my small town, Springfield, in Robertson county in middle Tennessee next to the Kentucky border. I love Tennessee and could never leave, however, new influx of people from all over is destroying our way of life. Every available farm is being built over with houses on top of each other. We can no longer keep up the infrastructure to meet the demands. If you want to find a house to rent, forget it! House flipping has decimated the housing market. We do not have a state income tax which attracts many retirees but this entire mess will collapse before long. Salaries are much lower in Tennessee compared to many states like California or New York, also ultra and I mean ultra conservative everything. I’m glad that I am 63, retired with a pension, my home is paid off, and on Social Security or else I would be screwed
@jamessantimarino24022 жыл бұрын
I live right over in Sumner County and have been wishing I would have bought land in Springfield ten years ago when I first came here. Now even with my retirement and most jobs it's difficult to keep up with the rent.
@troyturner64982 жыл бұрын
This is the most boomer comment Ive ever read. A pension?! Destroying OUR way of life? I also live in springfield and everyone who wants to move here is welcome. America is a glorious melting pot of diversity. Come to Springfield - bring your family. Fix-up the south part of town. Build a Chik-Fil-A, a Publix. Buy that building Rite-Aid was in and make something amazing. Come here and enjoy it with us. Lets build springfield UP, not OUT. Bring the latino community here with their family-focused culture and delicious food. Bring yourself with your remote job here and have your kids play with our kids at the park. Let's change the minds of the old generation, the southern generation of exclusion - you coming here is a blessing to all of us. I did not grow up here and have dealt with side-eyed looks for years and Im sick of it. Were all welcome and I'll start it off by saying it - youre welcome here.
@doyeworrell16802 жыл бұрын
@@troyturner6498 America is a great melting pot, I agree, however proper planning is key to making a community work for everyone living there. Large developers building 200 house on what was a farm is way too much. That means at least 400 more cars on small rural roads that are not maintained to begin with. Look at our Downtown, and Main Street, boarded up buildings, vacant buildings, it would be nice to see some new comers move in and revitalize the town, but I don’t see that happening. Who can afford to buy the Rite-Aid building and put in something amazing. It’s been empty for years, the cost to lease a property for a business is through the roof. I know I have family members in business in Springfield and I know what they pay. Our salaries here do not afford such expenses. We no longer have a bowling alley or a skating rink for the young people, not even a movie theater. Yes, it would be wonderful to have some or even one of these come back, but it’s not happening. If you have the money or can get a group to invest it, you can start to Build it up, that would be great

@@tennjen18 exaggerate much? I am from central California and currently live just east of Gatlinburg/pigeon forge/Sevierville area. You couldn’t pay me to move back. To say traffic in Gatlinburg/pigeon forge is like LA? Please. In the height of tourist season it might take an hour to drive through all three cities on surface roads max. Other than crazy summer (this is our life’s blood, tourism) it will take 30 minutes with zero slow downs. I lived in LA for a year with a 3.5 hour commute year round each way because I couldn’t afford to live any closer. As for weather, central coast is great if you want to wear a windbreaker every day of the year and it’s very expensive. Here we have seasons winter is horrible? Why because it snows 3-5 days a year? That’s amazing. I make 100k a year, I own 5 Acres of woods in the mountains, New house, large out building with garage and workshop and two large storage rooms, large deck with hot tub and assorted toys(side by side, electric motorcycle, etc) and I don’t owe a dime on any of it. The Nashville metro area is being overwhelmed wirh new residents and those in charge of the infrastructure are not preparing in any way. Many of the interstates flowing into the city have the same capacity as ithey did in the 1970's despite adding over 1 million residents. Nolensville and Spring Hill have narrow 2 lane roads with a million stoplights which create gridlock.

A lot of the State's budget goes to building and maintaining golf courses... more money on golf than Healthcare because the people who can afford golf can afford health care. And it's their money... seing as the state taxes resl estate instead of income.

I don't live in Tennessee I live in Huntsville Alabama just 20 miles from the border it is a beautiful state but most southern states are beautiful so is ours but I think what you should do for people wanting to move to Tennessee especially if they're not in the market to have to work little towns like War Trace Bell Buckle Lynchburg now I could say those are towns that I would love to move to and then you can go see all the other ones and they have towns like that all over the place just like Alabama and I don't know for fact but I would probably say housing would be a lot more reasonable plus you could get some acreage but I think you did a good job on it

Remember this girl said its her opinion, now look at her age & what she likes, She made no mention of Golfing, Fishing, Hunting, Boating, Skiing, Swimming, Creeks, Rivers, Mountains !. Now she told the truth and did a good job, way better than I could do & all about what she is familiar with.. Take a look at Oak ridge with not much to do, that has the River running nearly thru it, Dinning on the water, many many water sports and hunting, or head over to Moonshine Capital of Cock County, OR Crossville Golf Capital of Tennessee top of the Cumberland Plateau with over a half dozen nice boating & Fishing Lakes. Folks from Bristol to Memphis, Chattanooga to Kentucky I don't think you will beat Tennessee, 8 States touch TN. how many does your State have ?.

Wish i would have found you over a year ago? lol My wife and i have been searching for land in the mountains of TN now for months, but we were looking in several states in the same blue ridge area. In any case we choose TN as it looks lovely. We have a max bdget of 40k so its been hard to find "unrestricted" land with a "creek/stream" on it? I would be happy with at least a seasonal creek but my wife wants her babbling brook with a caboin yano? Our biggest issue is we live in N.J. and cant just drive to properties ot look at them. So we need as much info as can can get online 1st before we plan the trip to get there to buy? Im starting to think its never going ot happen and may just give up? HELP? lol

You can probably find a temporary rental property for a year. Renting is a much better option for seniors over 65. Good, affordable medical care is most important for those over 65. Make sure your carrier is available in TN. TN is not the best for senior health care. Maryland is good. California is good. Hawaii is good. North Dakota is good. All have affordable HMOs and access to good doctors through Medicare. Contact CMS to find out what states have the best health care for seniors.

I was born and lived all my life here in Tennessee, when I was growing up here back in the 60’s, little or no crime , never heard sirens, and if you did you knew something bad was going on, now its sirens day and night, A shooting almost every day, you see on the news,and the drugs, o my the drugs, and more drugs. This use to be a great place to live, but sense everybody is moving in here the crime has skyrocketed. I don’t care about the people moving in here, just don’t bring your crime with you. We use to leave our doors unlocked when I was growing up here, now you better bolt every door and window now, or you will not have anything left in your house.
