Just remember if you use a smart thermostat your thermostat can be controlled by the utility company. A utility company did take control of homeowner's thermostats in Denver and other places. When they control it, you have no control.

Tbh there is no cheap way unless you own a lot of land and trees. Propane cost a lot now, space heaters suck up crazy money you might as well burn it. Electric units in my area cost a premium to run seeing that my “delivery cost” alone can be nearly half of my bill.

Cheap option is to use expensive heat pumps, or collect dry wood in forest, there is nice video about water heat pump for conditioning, may be it could be somehow modifyed to collect heat

Delivery costs in upstate NY are more than the usage. In the summer time we use no gas at all and still are charged $25 month for delivery. In winter, paying like $700 month! I still walk around with 4 layers inside

Space heaters are expensive to run especially when u run 4 of them cost alot more than running a single electric furnace.

Solar energy isn't free anymore. The company/government WILL get a fee from you.

While solar energy has upfront costs, it can still be a cost-effective long-term solution, reducing reliance on traditional power sources. Fees may vary, but the overall savings and environmental benefits can outweigh initial expenses.

While I don’t yet know how it will work out, I hope to save a bit of money by installing what I call micro solar for the mortgage free home I inherited. It isn’t for heating. It is for lighting. Certain areas will have small solar panels, connected to lights inside. Mains lighting will be backup and no government needs to know. Would be good if I could make a cat wheel that made electricity.😆

@@MrEjohnston How is that possible? You must have a huge battery set up and you must recharge them often...?

I have several space heaters that I use but of course I only use 1 at a time to heat either my small living room or my bedroom in my apartment. I think its cheaper to use that than the baseboards that come with the apartment

That’s a smart way to save! Space heaters can definitely be cheaper if you’re just heating one room at a time. Just make sure to use one that’s energy-efficient to keep costs even lower 👍

My grid tied solar has a 32$ a month meter fee each month so most months my total electric bill is just that.
@homecapricehc
@homecapricehc 18 күн бұрын
That's a great setup! Even with the meter fee, it’s awesome that your solar system keeps your bill so low most months. Definitely a smart way to save long-term!

Depending on your electric furnace if you are running three or four space heaters at a time you might as well run your furnace

Some wall heaters heat bricks up,then turn of,the bricks store heat for hours,with the right set up,if you dont have a wood burner,heat a good 8 to 10 bricks with a chiminea,useing forest wood from dead trees,bring the bricks carefully in your room,hot room for hours.

I think infrared space heaters heat up a space using less electricity than traditional electric space heaters.
@homecapricehc
@homecapricehc 19 күн бұрын
You're absolutely right! Infrared space heaters can be more efficient because they directly heat objects and people, not the air, so they often use less electricity.

Space heaters are just electric heaters and they are not any more efficient than any electrical heater. An Infrared heater can heat a person directly but it is still only 100% Kwh for Kwh efficient.
@homecapricehc
@homecapricehc Жыл бұрын
You're correct that space heaters, including infrared ones, are essentially electric heaters, and their efficiency is consistent with electrical heaters. While infrared heaters can offer direct warmth, the overall energy efficiency remains comparable on a kWh basis.

Unfortunately you are incorrect, if you see a log burner or stove with a fan that is because it has been installed incorrect and needs to manufacture a draw rather than the natural heat pressure differential.
