Trivia: the player responsible for the infamous "playoffs" rant was Peyton Manning. Manning had a terrible game that day, highlighted by five turnovers, 3 of them setting up the 49ers to score touchdowns, while another was a pick-6. The loss meant the Colts were at a 4-6 record, and this particular game took place in November, so trying to claw back to a playoff seed was an uphill task, even for the Manning-led Colts (spoiler: the Colts finished the season 6-10, and Mora got the pink slip after the season's conclusion).

I think what green meant, and I can only speculate, But I think he was saying that we knew the bears didn't have an offence and need to win with turnovers and special teams, but they made those kinds of mistakes to lose the game anyway. The bears are who we thought they where, a team that needed turnovers and mistakes from the other team to win, and we let them off the hook, because we kept making the mistakes they needed

Exactly. The Cardinals succeeded in holding the underwhelming Bears offense to a field goal, then let them score three unanswered touchdowns on defense and special teams to lose the game by one point. They also missed a game-winning field goal in the final seconds. Truly the definition of letting them off the hook

Dennie Green was heated cause the Bears were super good in 2006 and the Cardinals were not. The Bears came in at 5-0 and the Cardinals were 1-4, Cardinals were up by 20 at halftime and lost 23-24. Dennie was pissed because he (and by extension the team) weren't buying into the hype of the Bears, and almost proved it before snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
