I’m probably just giving too much slack. But the driver in the last story, “Bill,” sounded like he really didn’t have any intentions to physically/psychologically harm people. He just happens to be a really kinky guy, looking for some slight reassurance that his kinks don’t automatically make him a sick person. (Though, he clearly doesn’t have any manners and his perception on what’s “socially acceptable” is skewed.) Bill has clearly never utilized the internet.

I have my own slightly scary taxi story to tell. Due to horrible dental hygiene at the ripe old age of 17 or so, I needed a root canal. My mother had and old beat up van which was great to get around our tiny town, however not too great to travel two hours to get to the dentist’s office. Thankfully our insurance offered a medical cab to and from the appointment. Both my mother and step father have worked these kinds of jobs, so we knew how it was supposed to work. They bring us, drop us off, wait outside in the car/van and then bring us back. Because we lived in such a remote area, we were usual scrapping the bottom of the barrel when it came to drivers. The drive down there was alright; however, the man had gotten lost due to our address not being on Google Maps correctly. Anyways my mother and I make it there, get the procedure done and walk out, no taxi. We call twice and get no answer, so we called our insurance company. Our driver had gotten called away, so we were getting a normal cab, paid for by our insurance company. I had seen a cab circling the lot, so we flagged him down and sure enough he was our driver. The man was a stereotypical Indian (as in India) and we tried to be kind and pretend to understand all his references (I was very sheltered). At one point while on the freeway (In Phoenix, Arizona) we took a wrong exit and he curses in another language, then hits the brakes. We were already surprised, but then he threw it in reverse and BACKED DOWN THE RAMP. We had trucks swerve and honk, cars speed past flipping us off. It was terrifying. We made it down safely and got back to speed quickly. A few minutes later he turned and looked back at us and asked, “Have you seen the Fast and Furious movies?” No, I have not, and I never plan to. It may not seem too scary, but we had a few other close calls. My family has never been one for affection, but my mother and I were holding on to each other most of the two-hour long ride home. We have never used medical transportation again.

lol so the Indian driver thought it was cool to be like vin diesel? Wow that guy is stupid and nuts.
@nhope19226 жыл бұрын
Basically. It was insane, and the entire time the guy had either a straight face or the biggest smile on the planet. There was no concern from him whatsoever. And, mind you we were not in a supercar or even a newer model, I felt like the vehicle was going to fall apart at any moment.
@athanasia67663 жыл бұрын
I'm confused... I thought you said the med transport was okay, it was the regular cab that sucked?? And seriously, insurance pays for that? I've never heard of such! 😲 But then, they don't volunteer info about benefits, do they? 🤫 Lol.

One evening when I was driving a cab for my dad, a customer said, "You ever been robbed"? I asked him if he was crazy, and informed him that is the one question you DO NOT ask a cab driver. I told him, "If you have something in mind, you and I are BOTH going over that bridge". He then, in a panic said...."NO, NO, NO, I didn't mean anything by it. It was just a question".

Bill was in all probability harmless. He just wanted to feel pretty.Also shoe ,sock sniffers are more common place than you realize .I've encountered many men with a predilection for pretty pantries ,and the scent of a earthy shoe or sock, pantyhose. Many have been crossdressers .Many are just your everyday looking dudes. In my experience always harmless .But... hey there is always that Buffalo Bill dude like Jame Gumm in Silence of the Lamb movie ..But come to think of it he wanted to make himself a woman's suite..out of real women. Hmmm ..It puts the lotion on the skin ..or it gets the hose again.....

I don't cut creepy people any slack. Even if you're autistic/Asberger's/socially awkward/whatever, I don't care, I still won't put up with creepy behavior. Asking someone if their parents or family is home counts as creepy. "But, that is what my GPS is telling me" is not an acceptable answer to that question.

Grew up in the NW suburbs of Chicago near Addison. The town that is: "little more than a road sign, a petrol station, a White Castle, and our hotel." It's a whole lot more than that, but I can confirm that there is a road sign, gas station, and a White Castle by a Hilton.

There are already 179 comments, and I have little hope this will be seen by the right people, but I'm going to try. I have been binge listening to Let's Read! for a number of weeks. I do so enjoy this channel! The stories are engaging, the writing competent and smooth with just a dollop of hominess for charm, and the reader (I regret I do not know his name) is a master. I will keep on binge listening. I just wanted to make one plea, and I feel like a jerk for making my first comment a criticism. O.o However, this does affect my enjoyment of the stories, so here goes: Please, oh please, get on top of subjective vs. objective pronouns! The errors occur once or twice in just about every story, and they huuuurt every time they happen. This matters because Let's Read! is an audio experience, and these pronoun errors break the flow of the narration. They occur so often that I wonder if they are purposeful, but in any case I'm here to say they just don't work. The ghost lunged at her and I. NO! (This is a common error in prepositional phrases.) The ghost lunged at her and me. YES! Jack tossed him and I the holy water. NO! (This also is a common error, this time with indirect objects.) Jack tossed him and me the holy water. YES! The creature was taller than me. NO! (Reads as: The creature was more tall than it was me. = absurd) The creature was taller than I. YES! (Reads as: The creature was more tall than I was tall.) Me and her ran for the car. NO! She and I ran for the car. YES! (NB: Listing the other person first is a grammatical courtesy but not required.) Buff up on these and other pronouns rules. Kisses, hugs, and cheers -- I'm subscribing regardless and look forward to more great entertainment. I'm glad to see your channel succeeding as it is!
