I think the fact they use such iconic characters in their hoster really helps people play the game. The personalities of the characters in LoL and Dota you can only know reading or at very vague quotes, now the personalities of Blizzard franchise characters are shown in full games. You understand what "Frostmourn.... hungers..." when you select Arthas means, for example. Basically it's Blizzard's "Smash Bros". I think helps this game a lot because it has the best cast in MOBAS.

from a lore perspective yes, you know Frostmourne is hungering for sacrificed souls like Muradin. but in gameplay its just "it a sword that shoots dmg/healing", there's no downside to "not feeding frostmourne" the lore is merely a well crafted window dressing. this is the same for how WoW doesnt feel like a "world at war", its a bunch of "heroes" doing identical quests in turn, anything you personally do only really affects your individual character and never the world at large; so a more accurate name would be "themepark of bombastic combat and lore" not "world of warcraft"

I love how all these moba "pros" are judging this game before actually playing the game. I've played LoL and Dota for a while and I find this game just as fun and it can be just as challenging. I'd reccomend for people to actually play on heroic or team league for a while before they decide that this game ''easy'' and not to judge by watching vids or playing the game for 1 day on casual...(on casual anyone can wreck). Honestly I still play all 3 but I've been playing this non stop ;p

Just started playing this game, and it's definitely more streamlined, which seems to be Blizzard's design philosophy nowadays. It really makes you question the necessity of things that have been grandfathered into other Mobas, like last-hitting and item trees.

last hitting has to be the worst mechanic in any game ever made tbh. Makes the laning phase so damn boring and means 1 mistake can cost you a game easily if that one Vayne gets even just a single kill.

+P-Duck Last hitting is just a relic from engine limitations and not good game design. Item trees like LoL and Dota just add a lot of complexity for the sake of complexity showcased in this case by a simple talent system creating as much if even more diversity.

What caught my attention is that you can jump just straight in and wreck face; the line stays constant. Unlike LoL, it's always an up hill that starts from boredom to excitement that's on an endless loop. I like the way you explained it.

I actually find this game more complex than LOL to learn. :D More maps and tactics. Also LOL you get almost the same itmes for the specific roles, so once you have them locked down, you just keep doing that. In this, there are many talents, and every character has different playstyle builds that can work depending on situation and what you prefer. Also talents gets updated etc.

Why is HOTS "dumbed" down one might ask? I will tell you that it's not because it's only made for casual players, but because not everyone in the world feels like sitting in a lane or jungle waiting 20 minutes before the team fights break out. I have played Dota 2 for quite a while and most matches last 40mins+. On average my HOTS matches last 20-30mins max. Best part is, is that it only takes a single minute for spells to go flying in every which way as a team fight happens. Just my two sense :^)

+BlackoutGames Bingo, someone got it: infact LoL and Dota 2 matches last so long because you have such a long laning phase that it's almost nearly half of the entire match. In Hots, the laning phase is basically non existant because you can start doing team fights early on if you're grouped: you don't need to level to get your skills levelled up or need that "specific item so I can do 1% more damage", you're already good from the beginning and can do enough damage right from level 1!

CoffeeShop is rather focus on being the best player and most strategic rather than the most leveled up. Lol no challenge in that really. Everyone being on the same playing level is what makes it fun and interesting instead of someone just push leveling and carrying the group. why would everyone try if one person can just win the match itself? with hots you have to be strategic and adaptive with your teammates the entire time.

That is why i stopped Playing Dota 2 and only play League once or twice a week, HOTS is very fun and I Don't have to wait 6 levels to get most of my abilities, then Walk around the lanes Murdering people And then group up kill baron or dragon and go for Dragon, In League every match feels the same, You Have Early Mid And Late Game Early - Laning Phase, Mid - Teamfights and Solo pushing Late - Losing or Wining the game.

I respond by saying heroes just emphasizes on different playstyles, I'm quickly dismissed because I'm not a competitive dota player but a filthy casual. Hots definitely has a shorter learning curve to get in to for newer players but in the long run it requires more skill to master. Here's why: Blizzard spends a tone of time analyzing statistical data and balancing each character towards the current meta. You'll never see a character be OP more than 2 weeks before incoming patches tune it down. Fundamentally, all moba games are similar but Hot's has multiple maps of which go in and out of rotation as well as different game modes all of which have their own objectives and layout which requires players to master separately. Positioning is almost always the reason why players get killed after all. Share team XP IS one of the MAJOR reasons why Hot's is superior to LoL and Dota. This focuses in team work while Paired with a match maker system that puts players of similar skill level together for matches this prevents 1 single player from hard carrying his team which causes very unbalanced game play which is often seen in League of Legends. Not to mention boosted scrubs on LoL feeding enemy teams. Haven't dealt with much boosted accounts in Hots just yet. Anyways, I just repeated a few key points of the video. Played them all and so far Hots > Dota > LoL

Sure HotS is very "dummed down" because it's not meant to be very competitive, but I don't think that's a bad thing. It might never have a pro scene, but it's easy to get in to and far more relaxing to play than other mobas. I would definitely recommend that other moba players check it out as a nice and relaxing game to play after a long loss streak or a particularly aggravating match.

Basically, HOTS is an MOBA without an Arms Race and depends heavily on Teamwork. Selfish lone wolves can cause the team to lose the match and valuable XP. Blizzard essentially looked at the other MOBAs, saw the vocal Elitist Communities within each one, and designed their game to basically be Anti-Elitist.

Yeah, the goal of "kill enemy base" is the same, but the means by which you get to that goal are very different than DOTA or League, which are both about getting farmed up and carrying. Don't recommend Hots at all. Gets boring fast, the meta is very clear and doesn't allow experiments. You have a huge paywall like in Lol. And there is no matchmaking at all. You will get matched with low/high skill players, there the share "feature" ruines the game most of the time. There is almost no snowball mechanics (You can have a perfect run for 15min make one mistake and you lost the game, cuz the enemy has the right heroes) Ruines the tactical aspect of the game. Probably the same reasons why Hots didn't make it into esports. In my opinion Hots will always stay a casual game and thats fine, play it with your friends to have fun, cuz the game itself is not bad.

Itemization doesn't necessarily make a game more complicated especially when their is a cap on the items you get. In my opinion HOT and LoL are about equal in that aspect but League in my opinion is the simpler game due to lack of objectives, the jungle is only for the "jungler" and their is no true sieging you just stand near turrets flinging skills at each other or towerdive. I played league from beta up and it's good game, but HOT is far more like a moba, why be forced to be in a 5v5 when u got some guy who only perma pushes top, some other guy lurking in jungle who may ignore your lane for any reasons, and leavers afks, which in HOT atleast is subbed by an A.I that can be controlled to assist. plus after 5 years of SR... shit gets old.

as SMITE player I have hard time to get used to HOTS cause of that fast pace which what I'm bad at cause in SMITE it's all about slow pace which will involved too many planning and more into old classic RTS rather than SC2 which is kinda new type of RTS which is about faster and faster for Item Build yeah kinda confusing but for that Item Build is kinda equivalent to those talent cause you also have difficulty time in building instead of building a good item set rather you have to have a good ability set(feel a bit like Paladins and there's card/talent system which is also equivalent to that Talent build) 2 Ultimates ? that's literally what King Arthur had in SMITE and he has like 8 abilities and some SMITE god doesn't need Ultimate like Ullr, Merlin, Hel,....etc they don't need it causue they have enough Damage or DPS to finiish the job and Third Person View which make me loveSMITE than HOTS which make you feel like you're in action which involved more skills

Heroes: No more crying about killsteals, who gets the exp or feeding the carry. Much better teamplay possible, love it. guys ive been a professional wc3 player and hit dota from the start on. While dota 2 was ok, LOL was like the low-skill clone every kid was starting with/switching to at the time of moba rise. however, hots was not a clone like just everybody thought, its the only moba with true differences of them all, making it acutally more like a wow 5v5 bg like somebody already mentioned in the comments. hots suffered hard from the timing of its release, yet is is far from any of the moba clones; delivering fast paced action and a teamwork-first based game with different maps. its way more modern than the rest, which are only copies of wc3 dota.

I like Hots cuz its less clunky (for example in Lol when you use ranged autoattack, the shot can be in mid air but deal no damage, in hots shots in the air always deal damage), doesnt take ages to get to some action, games are not decided by 1 mistake resulting in rest of the match completely sucking and because its less focused on pve and more on pvp. You dont have to last hit but you are forced to fight the enemy anyway, because if he pushes your towers run out of ammo. Great idea, makes you attack the enemy instead of farming like an idiot.

what starcraft unit, or hero, would you like to see in hots next? this can be from sc1 brood war or sc2. i would like to see the Goliath or a fire bat. perhaps a vulture. i am sure they will introduce a medic, a marauder, or a reaper first tho. there is no tank starcraft hero, so perhaps they could create that. only support is tassadar, the rest are assassins or specialists. the fire bat and marauder could be tanks perhaps, and the medic obviously a support. Goliath would most likely be assassin or specialist, same with vulture and reapers. the zealot would be a tank i suppose, or an assassin. i wish the ultralisk was a hero and not an ultimate for kerrigan.....i could keep rambling here. the hero from sc1 the zealot, that became a dragoon....

10. Heroes of the Storm charges up $10 to unlock a single character compared to other MOBAs. If you're new and want to try all the heroes out you'll have to wait for the ones you want to play to become free for a limited time, or you can farm a ton of gold by playing a lot of games to purchase it, or just pay real money to play your new hero! Whereas other MOBAs charge less or even nothing at all for all of the characters, you'll be helping Blizzard remain financially stable as well as increase the longevity of the company's lifespan. And at the end of the day you can give yourself a pat on the back for being largely responsible for the game you love to be able to exist today. A company can't exist if there's no money flowing into it to pay for operating costs, development costs, and employee's wages. Otherwise, this beloved gaming company will cease to exist, and we don't want that, do we?

uWotApocalypseRising I play LoL quite a lot and I have to say that I've never encountered such toxic players... I think some of you are just overreacting for things that other people said without playing the game. Either this or I'm just very lucky. The most toxic players I've ever met are ones that get angry for dying and say that I should've done something but it's not like many people say: if they flame they stop there and don't go on for "20 minutes". Just my experiences =D

The funny fact is that ppl saying HOS is far more team based than other MOBAS and that is bullshit. Just becuz there is no solo xp and stuff doenst implicate it is more team oriented. In DOTA/LOL/HON you got a play as a team as well. You have to obtain certain map objectives, map vision etc. And if someone is lower a level the others gotta help him out so he can catch up. HOS is just, almost as any Blizzard game, very newbie friendly game in my opinion. To sum it up..what do you gotta do in HOS: play as a team and get map objectives/map vision? What do you need in other MOBA games..the same + Last Hitting, Denying LastHits. In fact you just gotta do less to be good in HOS compared to ohter MOBAS.

Achim Peter I wouldn't say there is any more or less teamwork to HOS compared to other mobas but because your team is always the same level it is more punishing when you don't have that synergy. Good carries in other mobas can get ahead even if their team is not doing so well and pull out a win. Once your team is behind a few levels in HOS though playing catch up feels near impossible. It's still doable of course but the whole team has to make it work not just one hyper carry.

Achim Peter You have to actually PLAY the game to understand why it is considered more team-oriented. I use to also think that HotS is not any different from any MOBA game and that it's pretty much just a more simplified version of LoL. However, after actually trying out the game and playing it for a couple of weeks, there are A LOT of things that make it unique from other MOBAs. For starters, damage-dealing in this game is quite low, even in the early game; it enforces the notion that you need more than one person to kill an enemy player. Also, the maps are small to medium-sized and there are shortcuts almost EVERYWHERE; a teammate will be able to quickly reach where you are and help you out. When you compete against high-level players in Hero League or Team League, making plays can be difficult and tough, as the overall gameplay itself is very fast (a lot of quick coordination in who to target and where to position yourself) with teamfights being long. The objectives in each map are carried out EARLY in the game, reappear frequently and are very crucial. Completing the objectives gives you a significant advantage in pushing lanes, so both teams will always be going for the objective the instant they appear. This promotes plentiful teamfights,, in fact most of the time in a match you will be teamfighting and pushing a lane together. Maintaining vision in the map is also quite unique in this game. You don't have wards, you have to manually scout the map in order to see what is happening. Some maps have beacons where if you take control of them, you will obtain vision in that area unless the enemy team overtakes it. Trust me, there are a lot more ways that they designed this game to be more team-based than other MOBAs. But you'll have to figure that out by actually trying out the game.

Tyrion Lannister Me personally, I rather play a game of LOL than HOTS, I understand its my opinion, HOWEVER, not only does LOL also have objectives that can not only turn the tide of a game, but it also has an insane risk. LOL also has a similar team oriented style, it is true the leveling is per player and not team shared, but just because someone is carrying, doesn't mean you'll pull out a win. I've been in plenty of games when you suddenly make an amazing team fight, when your 20 kills behind, and you win. Not because your carry figured out something new or amazing, but because your team, YOUR TEAM, came together to kill the common enemy, and win. The point of a carry isn't to just kill everyone else and eventually cause there team to win, the carries job is to win his lane, essentially just do good, and indirectly help his teammates. If he gets a really nice gank off and pulls out a double for his adc, then the adc starts getting gold and more items which means more kills. That's the same for mid or any other lane. So before you hate on the players of others games, why don't you try them out for yourself.

Sadly that's the fault of the people who play the game, not RIOT. Its nearly impossible to control exactly who plays the game, but they have been implementing a new tribunal system. It's incredibly more harsh, as to deter leaving or flaming. But someone going into the wrong lane is the lack of communication from the person who went in the wrong lane. You might end up with two supports bot, which would end up being a major lack of dmg. Causing your team to lose. And no one wants to lose because someone didn't type where they were going. I will admit HOTS fixed that by having players pick a champion before they que, but LOL does have a gamemode were you can pick your champ, role, and lane before you que. The problem is LOL's player base is just extremely toxic. Sadly there isn't much that can be done about that. LOL is actually the most played game in the world, not much they can expand there playerbase by.

Don't recommend Hots at all. Gets boring fast, the meta is very clear and doesn't allow experiments. You have a huge paywall like in Lol. And there is no matchmaking at all. You will get matched with low/high skill players, there the share "feature" ruines the game most of the time. There is almost no snowball mechanics (You can have a perfect run for 15min make one mistake and you lost the game, cuz the enemy has the right heroes) Ruines the tactical aspect of the game. Probably the same reasons why Hots didn't make it into esports. In my opinion Hots will always stay a casual game and thats fine, play it with your friends to have fun, cuz the game itself is not bad.

In Hots, if you have enough life regen you are completely immortal because game mechanics don't have a counter to it. Also don't forget about the immortal bosses. In League of Legends and Dota, you need to kill minions to get levels and items. You can buy different items for different matches. My opinion is Hots need some more options like denying the health regen or something like that. It's completely broken, also if your team is full of noobs, you basically lose since you can't 1 v 5 like Dota or LoL.

Both Dota 2 and LoL are too damn overcomplicated and focuses on individuality, where one dude carries the entire team in some cases, and that's not a good thing. A game doesn't need to be complex to be good.

HoS is good but lol is still miles away (well it has been on the market longer), biggest problems for me in HoS are the fact that there are no items at all, runes, general talets tree (yeah im looking at lol) and roles (jungles, support etc), you just cant customize your champ beside the talents pick meanwhile in lol you have 3 aspect to customize it. Other thing i just really dont like is that fact that you share your xp, you can play well but if your team suxs you are doom, in mobas when you can poweryourself up by yourself you can carry a bad team, in HoS not a freaking chance. HoS is good... but just good and it doesnt look is going to get better
