Here is a fun fact from an Australian. People I meet from USA tell me how reluctant they are to visit Australia, due to the insect and reptile natives we harbour here. I say that I would rather deal with an Eastern Brown snake, or even a funnel web spider, than I would want to deal with ANY type of bear EVER💯

I've always wondered if people from other countries, especially Australia, think it might not be a big deal to come here in certain areas with animals we have compared to thiers. I know that's one of my fears about going to Australia. I want to go one day. But it's nice to see an Aussie say 'no way' to a bear here.

re bear spray. I don't know whether it was in this video, or one I watched before this one: a bear was in front of the people's cabin, and this bear did not seem aggressive at the time. anyways, this young girl (20ish) went down the stairs of the cabin and approached the bear with bear spray and gave it two sprays right in the face. it DID NOT (SEEM) TO HAVE ANY AFFECT ON THE BEAR WHATSOEVER! I actually felt sorry for the bear, but honestly, it carried on as if nothing had happened. so yeah, pretty scary 🥶 😱 🥶 😱🥶 😱 EDIT: it's NOT legal to carry a gun in Canada unless you have made arrangements with the Police Department telling them what you plan to do. they are so strict here. >: (

Bear spray is a last resort before you start being used for dinner carrying a big caliber weapon and pray that it doesn’t jam because I heard stories of people saying they froze from just the fear of how quickly the bear can run bear spray sometimes works but if it’s territory or cubs or just hunger spray is not working

I think there's probably some bear spray thats much better than other's. Quality matters imho. Under a recent video Addicus mentioned a brand a bear attack victim developed. The reviews and real life stories of using it were impressive. Still, I'm gonna be packing a powerfuI weapon, too. And a sturdy hunting knife as well. Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

The key words of what you had to say about dodging ten or twenty thousand black bears are : "I'll take my chances" !?! Taking their chances is exactly what bear country hikers are doing--it is called GAMBLING WITH ONE'S LIFE, just like Russian Roulette. Go ahead , take your chances if taking chances is what you are into. I’m Australian so maybe governments already do what I suggest, but I think that bear spray should be kept for free in boxes at the beginning of trail heads. An honesty system to take the can with you on your hike or run and return it when your done. In Australia the box jellyfish lives in the northern tropical waters and most beaches will have a supply of vinegar in a box at the beach for people to use incase they are stung. Box jelly fish can be lethal and the pain is said to be worse than childbirth. Vinegar helps neutralise the toxins until you can get to a hospital.

People who live in bear country should put a bunch of small square windows all around their homes that are too small for a bear to fit through. It will still give them plenty of light to enjoy looking outside but would protect them so they are not vulnerable to bears.

Im an avid outdoorsman, been hunting & fishing as far back as when I was able to pack my own gear into the regional highland lakes, and shoulder my own 12. g for waterfowl & 308. for the various 4 legged game animals. Ive also been all over Alaska, Sitka, Cordova, Seward, ans yes of course Kodiak Island. Im also a bow hunter, Im good with compounds & even a recurve but my true love is my crossbow. To the Brown Bear we all smell like slow meat period, bear spray is better then nothing but not effective far to often. I dont & wont ever hunt Brown's or any bearfor that matter with sharp sticks (arrows / bolts) and any bow hunter that goes after them with any type of bow & bear spray as protection for close encounters, your a bigger man then me & I applaud you! Bolt action is too slow. Manual operation always allows for operator caused problems. Same for pump action. Even lever action can be short stroked and slow/stop operation. My favorite pick is the Browning BAR, a sleek slim semi-auto that really softens recoil so followup shots are easier. Put additional lead on target fast and accurate. My other favs would be M1 Garand or one of the .308 Win modern sporting rifles like Ruger SFAR. A detachable mag gives the option for mag size and a fast way to change ammo type if a situation changes.

Regarding the newly married couple : they naively did what most people do when they decide to go into bear country -- they decided to GAMBLE WITH THEIR VERY LIVES AND THE LIVES OF LOVED ONES by exposing themselves to a powerful predator which USUALLY CAN NOT BE STOPPED WHEN IT DECIDES TO ATTACK. Just because there aren't very many attacks doesn't mean it is safe to walk through bear country with not much of anything with which to protect oneself against such a potent predator. If you were told a forest has a powerfull homicidal maniac that might stumble upon you if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time ; would you figure it is worth taking the risk while having virtually no reasonable means of self protection !?!!!!!??????????????????????!!?? It's increasingIy difficult to own firearms in Canada. I beIieve onIy on duty Iaw enforcement can carry handguns and even the process to obtain a rifIe or shotgun isn't easy. If you have any kind of record, forget it. You have to obtain and pay for training, then there's a licensing and permitting process & fees as weII. PIus the cost of the actuaI firearm is much more expensive than here in the states. I aIso beIieve it's unIawfuI to carry in nationaI parks and other areas. I agree 100%, these deaths are totaIIy on the tyrannicaI govt. I personaIIy wouId rather risk a fine than my Iife. We traveI to a neighboring state yearly or every other to see hard rock & metaI shows, and the neighboring state doesn't have reciprocity with ours. Which means I have a carry permit in my state that's recognized & accepted in many others, but not the neighboring state. Idc, my 38 spI goes with me every time, since it's a very dangerous and heIIhoIe city the shows are in. The concert venue itseIf is nice, but the city is insane. 2 summers ago, we were driving to the concert venue around 3-4pm and saw a prostitute servicing a customer in broad daylight. I didn't think I was seeing straight untiI my oIder son's gf said "Did l just see what I think I saw ?" 😳 And l said yes, I saw it too. The guy got out of his car putting his junk back in his pants and she resumed standing at the corner where we were sitting at a redIight. @@metalmamasue3680 my advise, which actually came from a commentor on the channel, is if you can't carry a gun, in addition to your bear spray, carry some road flares. If it doesn't scare a bear away you can burn the crap out of it, take out it's eyes or shove it down its throat, not going to shake that off. It might stiil kill you, but you will take it out when you go.

I haven't bought fireworks since I was a kid (55 - 60 yrs ago). The makers were really watering down the fireworks. But recent years there's some really powerful aerial stuff that rattles our windows from a 1/4 mile away.

Bears are smart. They will try and stock you if they are hunger. I live on large acreage of land surrounded by even larger acres of land. I walked out my front door and rounded a deck I have towards my car. I walked up on the bear unknowingly was about eight feet from it. Screamed and ran back to my home. I waited like an hour watching out of all my large glass French doors from many different parts of the home. Thinking I was safe and ready to make my way to the car again, I made it about six feet from the front door with door unlocked, peak around the corner of the front deck and there it was again waiting for me to see if I would come back out. Ran back to my house locked the door and decided I wasn't going anywhere today. That bear circled my home for at least two hours more before it slipped back into the forest. They are hungry, and you are always food to them. Don't let your Gard down ever, and get away from them before they have time to think.

I just came across your bear attacks video and you brought up a burning question I have - how effective is bear spray? Does it do any good at all - has it ever saved a life? I'm an avid watcher of ALONE, but I don't like their emphasis on dropping people in bear country with no shelter or weapon. It's not amusing to think that they may be placing people in a situation where they could suffer a horrible death. They provide them with bear spray and advice to always say "Hey, bear" if/whenever they encounter one. This doesn't seem sufficient to me. I'd appreciate any link to a source that can answer this about the effectiveness of bear spray (or not). I've heard one is more likely to get it all over one's self.

They say if used properIy it's 90% effective. But in windy conditions, it's Iess effective and you couId end up bIinding yourseIf when you most need to see. Plus many have not carried it in easiIy accessible pIace, some weren't abIe to quickIy defeat the safety caps/features, some attacks happen so quickly, they don't have time to deploy it. So it's definitely a usefuI tooI, but I wouIdn't onIy reIy on that. I'd be packing a firearm, and a sturdy hunting knife as well as bear spray, to give myself the best chances at surviving an attack. Thank you for sharing this very informative story. Scared the dickens out of me. My husband is a police officer, taught me how to shoot. I’ll always use him for my back up shooter, he never misses. Your episodes have taught me so much but I have no desire to go bear hunting. My husband and I own 100 acres heavily wooded property along Trout Creek just outside of Kirbyville, Texas. He said (but I know he enjoys teasing me) we have black bears in our property. Ever heard anything about it? Please let me know. I’m so scared, I won’t even go with him to the cabin we have there. Please let me know, and thank you again for your wonderful stories.

Pepper spray AKA bear spray effects people differently. It has the desired effect on something like 80-90% of humans. This is just my observation but the more enraged a perp is, the less effect spray has. It seems logical that bears reactions would parallel humans. The videos of bear spray working are calm non-agitated bears. You never see one where spray is stopping an enraged momma bear or just grouchy old bear that's been bullied as he got older, and wants to take out his frustration on weakly human.

Its hard to believe that a country that had so much wild places such as Canada has any laws that ban firearms anywhere. Like the couple that the wife was killed , had her husband been armed they both may have walked out of there. Joe in cabin without firarms is also hard to believe, why anyone would be there with no weapon is beyond me .uf you go into the wood , go armed gi knowing how to use your firearms . You have to know how to use anything you carry.. if your family likes the outdoors when any of them get old enough to have and use a firearm make sure they bring them . But a place that bans firearms is causing people to die .

I believe bear spray is never enough and having a .44 mag revolver on a chest holster just makes common sense in areas with bears. If laws say no firearms, then stay out of the area. The bear spray game can be played by rangers who have no choice in the matter. Living off grid? get the .44 and get used to the weight. Keep it in good condition.

A few basic rules. Sow with cub is not a good scenario, bear like people can be unpredictable Mothers are protective. Bear spray is good, a firearm to back it up is better. Right caliber and load are key, as well as keeping it accessible. How many of these stories occurred because bear spray or firearm out of reach? Be aware. Don't need to fear but have respect and common sense. As bear populations rise. And human population explodes into wildlife habitat overlaps occur. That causes inevitable confrontation. My. State hosts no brown bears, but around 40 thousand black bears The overlap is increasing yearly. As flatlanders move in and build homes in wildlife habitat. Confrontations increase, more wildlife is killed by cars and domestic animals, posions, yearly than all hunting, trapping, recreational fishing combined on a yearly basis. Most bad encounters between humans and animals like bears, cougars etc. Are caused by ill awareness of surroundings or ( one to many at the bar 😄😆😅😂) Seriously though. A little common sense goes a long way. Also the first one. Tracking any wounded animal is a risk. Especially if it is big enough to kill you. Best to not go it alone. Make sure your back up is capable and at the ready. It all happens quicker than you think. YT, has some amazing footage from bears running across tundra, to cape buffalo, lions, hippos, elephants. Etc. The speed at which they move at is a whole lot faster than you think. Plus their power and strength much greater than you can imagine. I've seen an estimated 300 lb black bear kill a 1200lb cow, drag it 300 yards and bury it in brush.

Firstly, sending prayers to all the victims & their families of bear attacks and any animal attacks. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 This is my opinion- if people are going to spend time where there are bears they should definitely be "BEAR AWARE!" In fact, they should watch all these videos before stepping foot on a trail. Plus, be prepared with bear spray, and a weapon. Also, all food protected in bear proof containers so they can't smell it. I also think the authorities are already doing as much as they can with bears who are causing problems with people on the trails. They track them and relocate them the best they can. If you think about it, more & more people are living & using land in remote areas, so there are only so many places they can relocate them to. Especially, when bears require a lot of land to move around. The question is, where would we put the bears? The problem seems to be- when more & more people are using this same land for hunting, hiking & exploring within these same locations as apex predators roam around free- range..... There's going to be a problem. They will cross paths.... Eventually. Okay so it's only a matter of time before bear and man "unexpectedly" come face to face in the forest. It's an unfortunate risk a person takes when they are enjoying the wilderness in "bear country". Statistically, I wonder what the odds are????. So we know the problem.... We're working on solutions People must be "Responsible" for being "BEAR AWARE!" Another problem, is people are Not Responsible! They forget bear spray. Or are Not bear aware. Here's a solution. Maybe, in order to use a state park the park rangers could incorporate a safety kit with a class you need to take before you can enter or something like that? The kit could have bear spray and bear proof containers a weapon etc .....and you need to take a safety course. Actually, I bet people would complain they don't want to take a safety course though. 🤔🤔🤔 I do not think they should kill them for being "bears". I think It's wrong IMO. (Same with sharks.) Or they'll guess which bear or shark was the one who killed the person ( who was in their habitat) and sometimes they kill the wrong animal! It makes me so sad. We've taken over so much of their habitat already. Then kill them when we make mistakes like don't protect our food. I feel they should relocate them into a more remote location as long as the animal didn't have anything else going on with it like rabies or some other sickness causing them to kill. 😢 Next some people will want to relocate all the great whites out of the ocean so more people can surf LoL 😂 I'm just kidding. Thank you for these videos.... excellent content & narration. Gives us so much to think about and discuss. Hence why I brought sharks into my comment & it was sooo long hahaha 😂

Playing dead does not work. Dont ever act submissive to a bear. Any kind of noise, and making yourself bigger and aggressive back can scare a bear off. Packing air horns or anything that makes a loud sound would have been enough to spook the bear. People seem to think that acting like an aggressor will make the bears furious and they will charge towards them. But bears spook easier than you think. But best advice of all, is just dont go hiking in bear country, its not remotely worth the risk.

Failure to hunt or at least harass bears teaches them the area is theirs alone. Not educating bears to avoid humans is guaranteed to cost someone their life, along with the bear(s). Coyotes have learned to run if they see a human with a rifle or a car that suddenly slows down and that car shot at them last week. (True story) Otherwise if left unmolested coyotes get very bold when they team up. Bigger the yote mob the more brazen they are and more dangerous to every animal including humans. To have a few yotes in the group with some fear of lethal lead is a benefit. No experience with wolves but I'd wager they'd learn fast like yotes.
