For all my emotional people 🙋🏻♀️ I tend to use my journal more reactively meaning when something happens that makes me upset, or over emotional. What I do is write out what happened, then tell myself to think about WHAT in the in the situation made me feel upset and HOW I can move forward/what steps I can take to feel better 🥰 It has definitely helped me be more dependent on myself to process my emotions instead of depending on others which can sometimes feel like a drag.

I can strongly second this approach, it's also extremely helpful if you are in or want/need to go into therapy - I go back and read over the emotional writing, and the "in the moment" assessment I may have done, then take that and maybe any further insights I got from distance to my sessions. It's so so helpful because I forget exactly how I felt at the time of whatever happened, but that's always exactly what my therapist wants me to talk about!

I’m a perfectionist. It sucks when I comes to journaling. I care so much that I don’t find it enjoyable. I try so hard to make my hand writing nice to the point where my hand hurts at the end. I also write almost like I expect someone else to read them. So, I do a lot of simple sentences and I put way to much effort into them. I try to not care so much and let it flow, but at the end I feel bad because it’s not close to perfect. Edit: Thank you everyone for your help! If you have the same problem I do check out the replies. They might help :)

I m a perfectionist too but my head is so crowded that I don t even care anymore how I write or anything. I just get it off my chest it s like talking to a best friend or yourself. In a journal doesn’t even matter how u wrote just get it off ur chest talk about THIS particular problem. Instead of focusing on ur writing focus on the story and u realize that u start writing so fast that u don t even realize it at the moment. My first time I cringed so hard and didn’t knew how to start but after a few minutes of writing a few things as a warm up I ended up writing a few pages almost an entire hour...

I’ve really gotten into journaling this year and I’ve found that the most important thing for me is to let go of any structure while I write. My journal has blank pages, which makes a big differences for me since it allows me to be completely free with what I want to put on paper. When I look back on past entries, my handwriting is always very messy and I can point out many spelling errors, but it doesn’t really matter since I keep in mind that the most important aspect is the content and how the process makes me feel, not the overall structure. Hope it helps! That’s what really helped me stick to journaling as a habit :)

I've been keeping a diary for more than 2 and a half years now. I don't write in it every day, just when I feel like I want to write. Sometimes I write about what happened during the day, or some others times I write why I feel happy /sad on that day, or others times I write my thoughts on a certain subject (like something that happened in the world). Sometimes I only write 3 lines and I'm satisfied, and sometimes I write 2 pages and I still feel like writing more. One thing is sure though, is that when during some period of time where I didn't write in my journal (because I had no time), I missed writing and my emotions were a mess because I couldn't write them down. I believe that writing in a diary has to be more of a feeling than an obligation ;) Great video as always, thank you for sharing your journal ideas ❤️❤️

00:00 📝 Journaling is a free and beneficial practice, especially during isolated times or unprecedented events. 00:53 📔 To start journaling, obtain a simple notebook and write in it regularly at a consistent time, like in the morning or before bed. 01:49 📚 Using a special notebook, separate from school or work, can create a positive association and habit around journaling. 02:47 🗒️ Stop writing before you feel finished to maintain enthusiasm and leave a thread for the next entry, making journaling more engaging. 03:46 📖 You don't need to record every detail. Write what you want, and avoid feeling pressured to create deep, emotional passages. 04:41 ✅ Add structure to journaling with lists, such as noting what you're excited for, accomplishments, and things you're grateful for. 05:35 🤔 Incorporate daily questions into your journaling routine, focusing on personal improvement or relationships. 07:28 📬 Write letters in your journal, whether to your past or future self, or to someone else, for deeper self-reflection and understanding. 08:54 📜 Create a journaling jar with prompts to inspire more diverse and spontaneous writing, fostering personal growth.

I am much older than you.....I started keeping a journal in Nov. 1976.....no, I wasn't a child. 😀 I have always used plain, standard, spiral ,200 page notebooks. Nothing fancy. Nice having them be sort of uniform in size & shape. I have never written every single day. There are no rules. I write when the mood strikes.....sometimes it's daily, sometimes I'll go days or weeks w/out writing. The important thing is, I keep journaling. I don't use any prompts, journal at a certain time of the day, doodle in my journals, add stickers or anything like that. I just write.....whatever comes to mind. I always write the date, day of the week, & time of day. And each journal is numbered, thank goodness, because there are a LOT of notebooks from journaling over 40 years ! There are some very pretty notebooks ....but I stick to what I've always used & it's the only journal I use. I don't have one for this kind of journaling & that kind of journaling.....but there are no rules ! You do what you like. That's all there is to it. Choose what you like the looks of, what kind of writing instrument you prefer, etc. Journaling is very personal & individual. I do it my way; you do it your way. I have always enjoyed it & wish I'd started even sooner than I did. I have one other regret. For a short period of time, I typed my journal & printed it out. Very much regret that. Handwriting is the way to go, in my humble opinion. Your emotions show & your handwriting changes over time...that's interesting to observe over the years. I don't use any kind of prompts. If I think of something I want to write in my journal, I sit down, make note of the day & time, then write my thoughts. I don't put music on or anything like that. I have a very, very simple approach. Considering how much I love stationary, notebooks of all kinds, pens, paper, etc., it's surprising I don't get all the gorgeous notebooks there are these days.....but I started w/ the standard notebooks & that's what I'll always use. They vary in color is all. I highly recommend journaling.....give it a try ! No one is going to test you on it or grade you.....do it how ever you like ! There are no Journal Police. No one is going to correct your grammar, punctuation, sentence structure or spelling. 🙂📚🖋

I've been wanting to journal for the longest, and I think my favorite tip was the jar filled with all of those prompts! I've never really thought of that, and the lists you keep in your journal on a daily as well is really great. This definitely gave me some motivation to at least START! Thank you for this video :)

I struggled for years in keeping up a journal! Some of the things you mentioned I had already started thinking of doing to make sure this time I continue, but I have to say very great and helpful video! I love that there are good practical tips here as well! Keep up the great work.

First of all, your b-roll game is ON POINT! I love how you splice in different scenes in different styles. Also I've been making a habit of journaling every day this month, so I'm looking forward to following your journaling challenge. Thanks for all the inspiring content - you rock :D

Ah 😌 my special, beloved weekly therapy sessions with TheBlissBean 😆 I really like the special occasions Journalling idea. + The Journalling prompt jar. My writing skills need fine tuning. I still write as I did in 8th grade. And it's 6 years later. My thinking muscles could Defintely do with some writing challenges. In highschool I never thought fast enough. So a lot of my answers I got from my classmates when the teacher asked for them in class. And because of my depression in the last 3 years of highschool, I stopped doing homework, cared about my schoolwork but just couldn't bring myself to focus on it properly. I started handing in my assignments late (which I half arsed most of the time) . I felt my brain deteriorating. I really need to work on my cognitive ability. I'm bloody incompetent. Thank you for all the practical help and guidance. 💕💕

Love this video! I keep seeing the same comment about Anne Frank's journal being quoted--- her aim was to eventually publish her diary. She never got to finalize it because she died in a concentration camp. Her dad published her diary which was in its second editing stage.

I never knew what journaling was until 3 or2 days ago! I'm a self thought Japanese speaker, naturally English, I'm a early Japanese speaker and I started journaling for the first time yesterday, I love how creative and new for me it is to put quotes, themes, colours, writing, Japanese exarply and sticks and so on.

the advice that really opened my eyes was to stop journaling before you feel like you're done to save up the enthusiasm for the next day. i struggle a lot with maintaining through time the same level of involvement i had when i started, and this is really good advice for a lot of things!

Wow, Beatrice! Thanks for sharing those amazing tips on starting a journal. Journaling is a helpful tool in managing our mental health. It's one of the ways to deal with any overwhelming emotion. It is a healthy way to express yourself. Journaling can be effective for many different reasons and help you reach a wide range of goals. I appreciated it's value when an amazing guest on my show emphasized its importance (Non other than Matthew McConaughey!)

Hi Beatrice, I agree with you on how journaling can be used for a wide range of goals so true! I have literally wrote things down and go back months and a year later and check things off. Yes! Love Matthew McConaughey, he was recently on the 'Time To Thrive Challenge ' with Dean Graziosi and Tony Robbins. He is a very wise man! Thanks for sharing and have a great day!

The main point is to just start. You will do it badly perhaps, but remember, 1 inch forward is always better than 0. Tip: you can start with bullet journaling as it is easier to le your thoughts out

I've journaled since I was probably 10 years old. Certainly not every day, but in fits and spurts filling up many journals. What worked for me is: -unlined paper -experimenting with journal sizes until I found what works -getting a journal that feels nice and/or looks nice -the first and last entry is a summary of my life and the characters I might be writing about. This way, each journal stands on its own as a summary of my life at the time, and I can introduce family and friends all at once, so future hypothetical readers know who I'm talking about and I don't have to give all the context every time I introduce them (although I often do little introductions every time anyway). -using my journal both formally and informally -taking it everywhere -doodling, adding stickers, ticket stubs, post cards and letters -drawing what happened in my day sometimes -writing notes from church, or writing whatever thoughts I don't want to forget. -spend time formally recording my day, or whatever emotions I need to process, or whatever lesson I'm currently learning or pondering. I am not formal every day like this, but at this point in my life I can feel when I need to, and I'll also make time for it several days a week when the mood strikes. -I like signing off my journals or having a little gimmick. I wrote one journal that was a series of letters to a fictional friend. Currently, I end journal entries with a media recommendation. -journals do most of their work in the writing of them. Don't worry about whether you have anything to write. The act of writing is what matters. And after you've finished a couple journals, you might find that old shopping list, or that rant about your feet being cold, to be the most endearing parts. You don't know yet. You're capturing a sort of essence of your voice and you're life. Visiting younger you through these books can be incredibly satisfying, and more real than a picture album. -finally, I like occasionally letting children draw in my journal, or letting my peers write in my journal like it's a yearbook. This feels less awkward if you do it on a vacation, or before you separate from people in some way (like moving). Having pieces of people you love in your book is a treasure, perhaps especially if those friendships drift apart, and you can fondly remember that friendship.

I’ve been starting and stopping for years. Wanting to journal but not knowing exactly what I wanted to journal about. But I would always come back to trying to start again. Well I finally found a topic that I need to focus on. ME!!! This time I’m researching to get some ideas about what I want to write about and adding some structure. All that said I really enjoyed your video. It was so informative and it helped me in so many ways. Thank you 😊

I looooooved this video... I journaled for a little bit in April but it started to feel like a chore so I stopped. But the tips you gave in this video are really really good so I think I’ll start again and do it in a more creative way than I was doing before!! It’s funny bc I’m giving up social media for two weeks so I’ll miss your Instagram challenge, but as an alternative I’m going to use the print out prompts every day next week

Also an important point - u look so beautiful 😍. Thanks for the video . I of course did subscribed urs channel just now.
