With that first one, people could read on a basic level, particularly for writing receipts and general notices in the town square. They maybe didn’t know how to spell things correctly (as most languages weren’t really standardized until after that era) but could do basic readings, particularly for daily religious prayer and general commerce. The “you know too much” as a woman is more of a sign of disrespect to the men in the village. No woman was supposed to know more than a man, as they were considered intellectually inferior to men at that time.

Bathing wasn't just a luxury. I'm not an expert on the rest of Europe, the other Celts have mixed reviews... For the most part they did all keep some form of our laws culturally even after they weren't law.
