I was basically raised to be a 'nice guy' It was pretty much 'wrong' for me to: stand up for myself, show backbone, set boundaries, say no. If I did any of those things, I was being the 'bad guy' I have a 'bad attitude' and I got in trouble for being that way, if my tone of voice said 'you're crossing my boundaries, back off!' I was raised to always think of others, hardly ever myself, be considerate, etc. I'm in therapy trying to get off this 'nice guy' crap and it's helping. I just wish I wasn't raised that way.

First of all, a big thanks to the guys who made the Internet and youtube for us to view powerful content like this. It's funny how I still love myself even though everything bro said in this video speaks to me. I think the need for validation varies from person to person. I have been pushed over, now, it's time I push back. No more mr nice guy. I used to care about people and their opinions way too much, now I care less. I am still under pressure of being nice, I know I am going to come out looking like Diamonds. Nice Guys are great people with so much power only if they knew. I am blessed no matter how much life sucks. I am nice, and it's a weakness, but I dare to look forward to being better than I was, isn't it some strength itself. I promise to always stand up for myself and be the best version of myself. I have fought back and I will keep fighting for myself till I am FREE.

The difference between “Listener” and “Shoulder to cry on”. That’s a very important distinction to make. Listening while someone unloads all their complaints and whines about life. It’s draining. I was present, but I wasn’t there as a person, just a pair of ears. Listening as someone “talks something out” is different. I’ve been told I’m a good listener by customers when they talked out their problem to point of solution. I think there is a bit of “It’s all about me.” In the person who needs a “Shoulder to cry on” My point is, even in these conversational dynamics it still takes two to tango.

not gonna lie, i was raised like this technically cause of my background. and i learned halfway that because of that nice guy syndrome, people used it as an excuse to "pick" on me. once i started to break the nice guy stuff i actually saw some changes, especially when all the men i started hanging out with said i have to stop being nice cause it was doing more harm than good. It was hard breaking the nice guy routine and it's still hard even now, especially when people say or quote that you have a bad behavior when you are just being yourself but we all have to start somewhere. Once you start something, no matter how hard it is, see it to the end. Am still learning so why not you.

Disagree about the great listener thing. I’m a jerkoff and a ball buster, not a “nice guy” at all. I Stand my ground, put people in their place and tease them while I’m at it. Some people really don’t like me, and to be honest, I don’t give a fuck, they can go somewhere else. But I am a very good listener when people show me the respect that I deserve and they want to talk about something serious. The people that know me well know that I am a very good listener. At the end of the day it’s all about respect. If you show me respect, I’ll listen to what you have to say, and I’ll listen well. I just don’t give people the time of day of they’re gonna play games.

I don’t think, I reached my full “potential “ but made great strides over the years by not listening to other people and doing what what, I wanted. For example, “Don’t go to college!” I always, wanted to go to prove to myself, I wasn’t “stupid” and get a degree. Now, I have been going so long some of the staff have called me “doctor.” For people about to say, “you are stupid to spend all that money!” And “blah, blah blah!” For me, it was a personal choice. No one made me. Besides, I love being part of that community and helping other students. Also, the courage to finally get tattoos, and do a lot of other things.

Not sure about all these advice. I''m an old man, I had lived and seen a lot of life's situations. For one I have always want my daughters and sister to meet "nice guys", as long as they are not weird, I'd rather have them with successful nice guys than jerks. And they all did, and married nice successful men. Good marriage an good family. Now on the other hand, I have several female cousins who dated, and married "jerks, bad guys". All had been divorced with these awful guys. One tragic happened to a good female friend who I once had a crush with. She was a good woman who liked and dated tough men, eventually married a successful man but I would not consider a "nice guy". Well, this guy caused so much pain in their marriage that she became an alcoholic. She would have divorced him but he was shrewd and always talked her out of it. Eventually he himself got into trouble with the law, and got incarcerated. The stress on her caused her health, and her life, passing away in an early age. To this day, I wished I could have saved her.
