This is my 2nd Keurig coffee maker of this model. kzbin.infoUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf The first worked fine for more than 2 years, and I could still get a decent cup of coffee out of it if I fiddled with it when I decided to replace it. The problem I had with my first unit was this: When attempting to brew a cup of coffee, the unit would either keep brewing until the coffee was undrinkable or it would not run long enough and the coffee produced was way too strong. I cleaned the unit as best I could but it did not help. So in the end it was just too much trouble to get a good cup of coffee out of it, so I decided to replace it with a new one, which has been working great since I unpacked it.

I started using "pour over coffee" when I was too cheap to buy a coffee maker. Bought a plastic one at Walmart for like $5. I have a friend that calls it a "camper's brew" which I like better. Its real simple to use and I think the fact that you don't need electricity for a good cup of coffee is what makes it special.

Exactly. I'm off grid and any electric coffee makers I've found require 1500 watts, a big, noisy generator.

The thing about water temperature.... it's kind of the opposite
@Ma_Ba3 жыл бұрын
You caught their mistake about the dark roast and light roast temperatures! Dark roasts are already broken down by the roasting, so more permeable at a lower temp compared to the light roasts needing a higher temp for solvent. They didn't make a mistake about saying to drink at a lower temperature though. This is for health AND ability to appreciate taste better at a lower temperature. (History and epidemiology: Eastern Euro countries used a samovar for heat AND as a boiler for tea. They have lowered the high occurence of throat cancers -of non smokers, non alcoholics- by reducing the temp of tea drinks by just a few degrees. See NIH study summaries.)

I like the pour over method very much. I appreciate the lack of sediment. It also seems to be ready temperature-friendly for drinking faster than other methods. I think grind size is a very important consideration because I have found that if it is too fine (including medium fine. That's a setting just before my finest burr setting on my KitchenAid attachment) the filtering takes too long and the first cup is no longer an ideal temperature. A pleasant surprise... I have had good success with pre-ground coffee from Trader Joe's. I usually keep a bag for when I just want a quick cup with milk and perhaps sweetener or when I want iced coffee. The grind size of that TJs uses is actually ideal for pour over and I get terrific results even though it might not as fresh as whole-bean. I've read that pour over is a better method for lighter roasts than dark roasts, but that difference is probably missed by my palate.

for someone who has been trying to perfect my own pour over techniques, I have nothing bad to say about these tips. It would be interesting to see a part two of this video that goes over more in-depth information on technique. One thing I've noticed (which is something I haven't heard anyone talk about in youtube videos) is depending on how much coffee you decide to brew, using the right gooseneck kettle is essential. I usually pour one cup at a time which is about 8-12 oz using my Hario V60 Size 01. With this, I use a kettle with a very small spout which helps with my control of how much water goes in = maintain a slower drip, increasing better extraction while producing more bubbles to give me a smoother texture. They say while your pouring the water, don't get too close to the edge and the rule i've been taught is leave about 1cm of space from the wall/edge. With a kettle that has a very small spout, I can get about 0.5 cm from the wall without screwing things up because of the control you have. Does this change the taste? not really, but when I like to show off, it's fun. Of course, If I use a larger dripper that makes 4-8 cups of coffee, using more coffee grounds, I'll use a larger spout kettle. This is something I learned in the last couple of years after my mentor advised me with trying different kettles.

@3:19 I think you have it backwards. Lighter roasts usually require higher temperatures, and darker roasts are more tolerant to water that's not as hot.

Tell me why I shouldn't pour around the sides? I would think that would help bring coffee that sticks around the top of the funnel back down and so get more flavor out of all the grinds instead of just the bottom... There's probably something I don't understand. Tell me! Thanks.
@rustler088 жыл бұрын
Because pouring around the sides will lift and push the grounds inward, which will result in that water not flowing through the grounds. Thus, you will get less extraction, resulting in weaker/more watery coffee.

Which is better the French press or pour over .. also is the Vietnamese coffee filter a type of pour over ?
@MrAndroid13377 жыл бұрын
misZdharlynJOY I’m sure you found an answer but just Incase you didn’t, and for others. There isn’t really a better one as those are on white opposite sides of the spectrum of flavors. It’s more of a personal preference as a french press is usually more of a bolder cup of coffee and a pour over, such as the Chemex is more of a tastier. And when I say tastier, I mean clearer and less bold. That doesn’t mean the french press is not tasty as that’s all I’ve been drinking. I have yet to try a pour over because I’m intimidated by all the techniques and what not but i hope this helped. Side note however, there are pour over methods such as the v60 or even others that are more bold than the Chemex but less bold than the frenchpress. There’s even hybrid immersion pour over brewers too. Hoped this helped

Question - does it make much of a difference to use paper filters in a ceramic brewer or no paper filters at all in a metal mesh brewer? If not then that would eliminate one step by not having to wet the paper filter before brewing. Would either type of brewer be more significantly preferred?

Paper vs Metal filter makes huge difference. With paper filter you'll have "cleaner" cup of coffee (less coffee oils and etc.,). Enjoy your coffee!

Coffee Dripper I have the stainless steel cone pour over coffee dripper (no filter) and I love it but after making my first of 3 - ½ - ¾ cups of coffee, the dripper starts dripping very slow, if at all. I have to push up the coffee grinds to get it to start dripping again. When I fill the dripper up with water it drips through but when it gets half way down, it slows down or stops. I use 3 tablespoons of coffee grinds. I clean both sides with hot water. Any ideas?

Hey, I did watch the video already (and read the description), but it seems odd to me that you guys use the 3 setting for drip cones, as this gives me a way too long extraction time, granted I have only 1 hole in my dripper. Pour over coffee is healthier because of glass and stainless materials vs. plastic that is used in electric pour overs. Also, the electric coffee makers are harder to clean and maintain and can develop scale, which of course can be removed with a de-scaler. It's better to filter your water before brewing. I use Brita. If I don't filter before boiling in a Hario kettle, the bottom of the pot will develop deposits. If I filter the water, the pot stays clean.
