I find your channel one of the few that actually teaches something new. We all know by know we can add a belt or scrunch up sleeves, but you always have something actually new and insightful to add. Also a lot of it works for people with different styles. Also loved your tips on proportions!

I've been craving some bright new (to me) colors in my wardrobe recently, so this video was very timely. I think one of the most useful things I've ever learned from you is that pairing a bright color with a muted color looks less jarring than pairing the bright color with black or white. This is very useful, because I don't wear a much black to begin with but black plus color can look a bit costumey. Black with red? Santa. Black with orange? Halloween. Black with pink? Victoria's Secret. But when the usual piece of advice out there is "wear color with neutrals", that's where my mind used to go, and it wasn't all that helpful. Now I know a bright pink can look nice and harmonious with a pale mossy green, for instance. It has really opened up my options. Brown is also really great. I don't have many outfits involving black that wouldn't be better subbing the black for brown. It's a gentler neutral.

A really nice video about colour! I think many people always think about combos in terms of the base colour, like a box of kindergarten crayons. This showed how we really need to think about shades, tones, tints, desaturated, etc combinations. Great job! :)

You always open my eyes to the finer details of material quality and finishes as well as workable combinations for day and evening wear. Like you I'm best suited to autumnal earth tones, but learn from you so much about contrast, textures and balancing brights with muted tones. Thank you.

I think I am a summer. 🤔 cool darker blond hair with pretty pale neutral? skin. I love warm colors but have to say I just found out that in a cool baby blue or lilac my face just lightens up. I still will be wearing also the warmer tones with silver jewelry, like you said, but will keep that in mind decluttering and shopping 🙌🌼 I also prefer low contrast outfits, I feel I look better in them. Now I know why.

The whole idea of contrast is actually so helpful. I think I’ve struggled to wear colours because I’m very low contrast in my features. So monochrome looks are always my go to. I don’t even wear black and white in the same outfit lol So having to buy one piece in colour often means I’d have to buy something very contrasting to it. So that’s what’s caused a lot of annoyance for me! But the rest of your video really helped 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

My color palette is medium saturation cool-toned colors. I love these pieces and I’m drawn to them but they can end up looking dorky in an outfit. I have low-contrast coloring. Would love some tips! I feel so often the warmer tones are trendier recently and end up looking more elevated.

Thank you! For mentioning that cool and warm can actually create a nice contrast together. This is so ”taboo” in colour analysis but in my own experience it’s true. For ex. I think the combination of mint green / cool blues (typical summer colours) with autumnal cognac brown leather accessories looks lovely. And neutral - warm brown eye shadow can bring out blue eyes. I happen to have natural copper highlights in my (natural!) brown hair despite being an otherwise textbook Summer type. I always thought I’m some kind of anomaly of the colour world. But now I start to think that mother nature knows something that the colour analysts don’t… 😉 Gonna bring the gold - silver idea with me for the future, I feel it’s one of those colour analysis ”error” topics!
@bbappzz988 ай бұрын
Yes I was recently thinking that when we look at art and design, we see multiple examples of cool and warm colours together so why is it so common in the fashion world to say warm toned individuals should only wear warm colours and the reverse for cool toned individuals? It can look pretty flat when we stick to one or the other.

I love colour but flat colours overwhelm me where a narrow stripe lifts me. If the accent colour is really bright then a contrast cream or off white is the answer. You are amazingly stylish and though nothing you wear would suit me I’ve learned so much. Thank you

I used to always be one of those girls that saw other girls in color, and would say, Gee, I sure wish I could wear that. I don't know if it's an age thing, or whatever. One day I asked myself why the hell can't I? Life's too short not to have any fun and to wear all black because it's what you feel comfortable in. Wear what you love, make mistakes, and don't learn your lessons lol Everybody is too busy caring about themselves anyway. 💋

dear Helen, thank you for another great video😊 I'd really appreciate it if you or anyone could help me with some questions regarding warm and cool tones: 1. is navy a warm or cool tone? 2. At 13:04, i thought the middle shade (which looks like burgundy on my phone screen) looks warm while the shade at the bottom (a bit bright orangy to me) feels more like a cool tone... How to decide which is which?
@moon-je2hc9 ай бұрын
Hi there, I will try to help as best as i can (but please correct me if I am wrong.) As far as i understand, navy is a cool colour almost all the time. There are other blues that are of a similar saturation though, but are more warm, such as a dark petrol/teal blue. The way i imagine it is that I am mixing paint colours- with the petrol/teal blue, I can imagine more green being mixed in which lends it more warmth than a colder midnight blue navy. When you look at the burgundy at 13.04 as opposed to the warmer orange, I can picture blue, purple and grey kind of tones being mixed to create the burgundy- since blue, purple and grey all lean cool, that is why the burgundy berry colours are usually cool toned. Whereas with the orange, i can picture warmer yellows and sometimes browns being mixed to create the warm orange-toned red, giving it the warmth. I imagine this is very much not a flawless system, but as you think more about colours in those terms it starts to become more intuitive to work out which ones fit together more. I hope this can help a little bit 🙂

I've noticed it some time ago and sometimes I will skip watching the vid because it's distracting from the content for me. I wonder if maybe the creator's native language has this rhythm and she instinctively uses it when speaking English or she lives in a country where the local language has that melody to it... which may be natural for that language but sounds robotic in English. Or it may be the editing. Or some neurodivergency?

@DailyHelenJ9 ай бұрын
I’m fairly sure as I’ve been typed a few times but … ofc I could always be wrong. Lighting in videos can be tricky as often I’m literally blue 🤣 on a cloudy day. So it can throw off how skin tones look
@kimberlyperrotis89628 ай бұрын
I still think your coloring was completely mis-typed, you’re a Soft Summer. Just look what those light, muted greens and blues do for your skin - it’s amazing. You have beautiful young skin to begin with, but pale, cool colors make it glow like a pearl. I don’t think those yellow-browns and yellow-greens flatter you at all. You probably have very pale olive skin, which is very frequently mis-typed as having a warm undertone. We all have yellow in our skin, that doesn’t make us warm-undertoned. I wish you would get another color analysis.
