When he's writing his joke alone in his notebook, he hold his pencil with the right hand, then drop it on the table, looking for a punchline. A couple of things: -Not Breathing: This is actually a real anxiety and pain response. It is probably linked somewhere in the "lizard brain" to playing dead. So, this may not be a calculated act by Arthur trying to calm himself, but one more way Phoenix is getting into the character by doing real responses. -Color choice: It is basically the palette of the curtains and colors of the Murray show. I think this is more foreshadowing than anything. These color appear again and again to hint that he is becoming the Joker. The final act, walking through the actual curtains in full Joker outfit, symbolizes that he has finally become the Joker fully. -Dancing: Yes, Arthur does dance, but the "exaggerated" movements he is making appear to be Tai Chi forms--something he probably learned in either therapy or on TV as a means of calming and focusing--also common anxiety control practices.

In the scene with Murray, where he's *really* emphasising the *Murr-ay* part, it's actually a callback to the hospital scene where he drops his gun in front of the kids. The way he says Murray is absolutely identical to "If you're happy and you know it say Hurr-ay". "Hurr-ay" is said at the exact moment he drops the gun, and it keeps playing while he's standing there trying to cover it up.

Joker is one of those movies that made me leave the theater saying “meh”. But for the next four days it kept replaying in my mind, certain scenes would flashback, and on a few occasions I even started hackling and laughing like Joker. This is true art.

3:15 I think the Joker used to starve himself on purpose. He didn't find pleasure in food. He only found it in self destructive behaviour such as smoking, killing people without caring about getting caught etc.. The financial issue, I believe, is a coverup to the fact he does not even enjoy food
@christophergraphia46984 жыл бұрын
I respectfully disagree. I dont think he starved himself on purpose nor do I think it was due to poverty. Eating disorders are one of the most consistent symptoms of major depression which, obviously....

Regarding Joaquin's posture, I have noticed that he naturally has had the curved in shoulders for decades, so maybe it was something he was born with, as opposed to something devised specifically for the character.

I loved this movie. I could feel his pain like no other. His imaginary life was beautiful but his pain of being not able to control his laughter because of his pathological problem. I know a close person who would stutter and how people used to mock at him. I could feel the pain and the anger. Without Joaquin Phoenix I don’t think anyone else could do justice to this film.

I have another theory about the clothes colour choices: It's a nodding tribute to Cesar Romero, the 1966 Joker. He wore colours like that as well.

I CANNOT stop watching this movie!!! It's brilliant! J.P. portrays the most sympathetic and relatable villain EVER. As you watch and see all he goes through, learn of his past...even before he leaves Aurthur behind and fully becomes Joker, you're cheering him on with every bullet he shoots! The less fortunate citizens of Gotham LOVE him. They see themselves in him and he is finally SEEN!

Beyond everything that you'd call him crazy for , all I saw is endless pain he has within himself...Killing yourself once is fine! But wanting to do it over and over again, is a point you reach when you're absolutely shattered! I was able to distinguish every laughter! The smile he has when Sophia is laughing at his joke in the café shows his brief moment of glee that finally he felt complete,he felt he's a good comedian,has found someone who loves him and cares for him that's all he ever wanted!

I've seen this movie twice, less than a week apart. And I have yet to stop thinking about it since my first viewing. I want to watch it again and again, just to take in this journey that Arthur Fleck was forced to travel. I had never heard of Joaquin Phoenix before this movie, but now, I see what an amazing actor he is. To take on such a demanding role and create something so sinister yet beautiful. It's truly astonishing, a pure work of art.

This movie affects me so much😭 My bestie suffers mental illness her entire life and she was hospitalized in the mental hospital 2 weeks a go. I saw her slowly fading and trying to find her self.. , she'll be 30yo next week. She is beautiful, kind human being. The difference from Arthur, she is surrounded by love and people who loves and supports her.

The title cards too. The huge letters of Joker at the beginning were huge and imposing to show the seriousness of the movie. But how curly and old school and happy “The End” was written couldn’t be a starker contrast. Sort of how Arthur realized his life was a comedy not a tragedy.
