I haven't seen too many people talk about this, but the sound design in this movie is simply amazing. Every time he revs the batmobile engine, the entire theater quakes and you really get sold on the muscle car batmobile. Every gunshot that ricochets and every punch that gets thrown has excellent sound tracking, in these dark fight scenes you can still keep track of where people are and what's going on just by audio cues alone. It just further adds to the excellent experience that the film provides.

One of the most brilliant acting choices from Battinson to me was how his separation between Bruce and Batman was super-subtle. You notice immediately he's not the tank he is in the suit. He's exposed, insecure, he actually shrinks away from people. People in Gotham would never suspect Bruce Wayne is Batman, not because he's too happy and pretending to be a careless billionaire, but rather because he's so visibly fragile that it seems unimaginable.
@crossingdragon5032
@crossingdragon5032 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I immediately noticed whenever Bruce isn’t in the suit he slouches and keeps his head down, avoiding eye contact and moving quick. Where as when he is in the suit he is standing tall with good posture, walking slow and looking everyone in the eye
@crablord7934
@crablord7934 2 жыл бұрын
Pattinson himself said that Bruce subconciously believes that the suit gives him his powers, and he's uncomfortable not being in it, which is such an interesting look at what Batman means to Bruce.

First Batman movie where I was genuinely terrified of Batman. His presence commands the rooms that he’s in and while he’s edgy and new to the job, he learns the lesson of being more than something for criminals to fear at the end, which speaks a lot to what Batman actually represents to Gotham as a whole. Spoiler alert: I love how rewatchable the movie is. Most people think of the whole Rata Alada as a plot hole, since Batman couldn't solve easily that bats are known as flying rats and that the orphan was him, although it would've been impossible for Batman to be El Rata Alada, because they were looking for a snitch, which turned out to be Falcone, and the orphan riddle wasn't about Bruce Wayne, it was about Edward Nashton. I firmly believe that the purpose of those two riddles was to make the audience feel how this case impacts Batman in a really personal way, as if he could be emotionally compromised in any time, especially when he thinks that Riddler discovered his identity and was about to make it public, but it turned out worse: Riddler thinks of Batman as his ally, a reflection of his own ideals.

I love how despite this movie being shot in Chicago and Liverpool for large portions of it (The Gotham Square Garden is the State of Illinois Building in Chicago for example), the film was still able to create such a defined Gotham. One of my favourite things about this movie was that there isn’t a separation between Bruce Wayne and Batman yet. A lot of people don’t get that Batman isn’t who Bruce Wayne becomes at night, Bruce Wayne is who Batman becomes when the sun rises. Bruce is the mask he wears, the cowl is who he truly is, and I loved that this Batman hasn’t learned the value in that yet, to throw people off.

This is exactly why I hate the people saying "Lol, this Bruce Wayne is so emo and brooding in this movie". Like, every Batman fanboy always ogles over those scenes in the comics and the cartoons where Bruce genuinely thinks of himself as Batman and not "Bruce Wayne". Every DC stan loves to cite that scene where Bruce is mind-controlled and asked his identity and he still subconsciously referring to himself at the caped crusader. It's great, because that's who he is. And now that we have a Bruce who hasn't started acting out the surface-level Bruce Wayne persona yet, all the nerds are missing the whole point and calling Pattinson a bad actor. These people don't even know what they want.

@@BabysitterSky I'm a much bigger Spiderman fan than Batman fan but this literally was much better than No Way Home. Sure, NWH was a nice Superhero movie, but as a movie in general? Because I 100% didn't. Even the story was pretty underwhelming. Don't get me wrong, it was amazing seeing all 3 Spideys on-screen and fighting all the villains, and it was an enjoyable movie, but it just didn't have that interesting of a plot. Compare it to something like Spiderman Homecoming, which had a smooth story line, and showed the struggle of being a teenager and superhero at the same time, and lead Peter to understand what his life purpose was, then you'd see how bland NWH really was. I really can't believe people found this movie "not funny enough". I love Marvel movies, but seriously what the fuck? There were jokes even in incredibly tense scenes. Its good to have humor to elevate scenes but not everything needs to be a full blown comedy. The banter between Batman and Gordon was hilarious a lot of times. Jeffrey Wright is so good in this. Loved the way they used Catwoman, giving her her own motivation and goals, while helping Batman learn on his arc. One of the key things Batman learns is the value of empathy, multiple times he gets called out by both Gordon and Selina about the value of life and to be more empathetic. Once he learns about the Riddler's motivation his worldview shatters, because that's the thing he was missing. Without empathy for the people that are hurt by the bad guys, by focusing solely on "being Vengeance", he was making Gotham worse and worse (in the beginning of the movie its said that the crime rate has gone UP despite Batman being around). That's an amazing theme to explore about Batman and we have rarely seen anything like it in most Batman media. The more I think about the movie, the more I like it.

I absolutely love the arch of Batman in this movie. Was very surprised when Matt Reeves said Batman Ego was a big inspiration for film considering other Batman titles used by other directors (Long Halloween, Dark Knight Returns, Killing Joke, etc.). Now I don’t think there was any better inspiration. The transformation that Batman takes from being a symbol of solely fear/terror to being a symbol of hope was amazing. One of the final scenes where Batman carries the boy to a helicopter is beautiful. Batman in the beginning is unsure that he is effective and questions whether fear is enough to stop crime in Gotham. At this scene he realizes that he missed the most important aspects to his crusade, HOPE. This is also shown that this boy unlike the beginning who sees Batman with some dread and fear, now sees him as a symbol of hope, a watchful protector, and most importantly a dark KNIGHT.

Something I'd also like to mention is the moments where he was like a pseudo-vigilante where he didn't have the batsuit but was running around with a hoodie, cap and mask. I really hope for the sequel we get Mr Freeze (as Matt Reeves stated he was interested in doing him) so the color scheme of the movie could be more blueish and have the waters freeze over for easy traversal for the characters. Plus have the movie take place during Christmas or New Years as a sort of Die Hard thing where it takes place during then but not overly holiday feeling. Also for the third film you could have purple be the main color for blue and red being mixed and the metaphorical feeling of finality with the Joker for the 3rd and last installment

How about making Mr Freeze a tragic and desperate character? Desperate to save his ill wife, who is being used as leverage over him by the Court of Owls (referenced multiple times in the film and likely gonna be the overarching villains ). A brilliant scientist with a cryotech speciality, who descends into a course of progressive moral degeneracy and crime...his soul and demeanour progressively growing colder to reflect his moral descent...a family man racing against time. Or for something smaller, have him be like a creepy van driver guy who has frozen bodies in the back of his van and retreats to his house to run unethical experiments in the name of his love. He can wear a hybrid of a lab hazmat/astronaut suit with a modified DIY liquid nitrogen spray gun that shoots like a cold flamethrower. The lighting in the suit can give him this eerie pale blue glow, contrasted with his deep, blood red goggles. He can talk all soft and well-mannered as if he's a completely normal person. Maybe for a plot twist reveal that the woman he is trying to save is not his wife (like that one Batman comic)

I love how the Batman’s footsteps were so pronounced as he walked slowly. The theme that played as he walked reminded me of the music in a Western when an outlaw and the sheriff face off at high noon. My boyfriend pointed out that the Batman’s footsteps kinda sounded like he had spurs. I especially enjoyed the movie showing the Batman as a hero and a competent detective and not just a masked vigilante that punches his way through everything. From your impressions, it feels like Pattison’s Batman is a lot like Netflix’s Daredevil. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but if it gives off the same vibe as the series, which I feel like it does, maybe a bit darker, from this review, then I know I’ll enjoy the hell out of it.

On the other hand: I think it’s entirely necessary for the film to revisit Riddler after all the action and to see his reaction. Pretty much all I do mind about that scene is the need to make the character he’s talking to that character. Even a different character would do it. I think everyone’s just a bit burnt out on seeing another take so soon. This was so original, I’d love to see more less-tackled villains before we see Barry come in.

Completely agree, I also think that because it is that character it just takes the attention away from the Riddler and everything he had just done. It had me thinking about the movies to come when I should have been in the moment seeing the Riddlers reaction. Could have and should have been literally any other character than that.

I don't mind the scene too much now, I hated it when I first saw it though. But It's not as bad now, mainly because the Director says that they don't plan for him to have any major part in the movies, they just wanted to show that he's here and beaten

I thinking that Mr freeze as the enduring villain of the next movie would be excellent. It would challenge Bruce as he tries to care about and inspire people while balancing keeping the people safe. This Bruce is also a scientist and inventor, so it's possible he'd be able to help in someway before or after his confrontations with freeze

The fact that everyone I care about really loved this movie, alongside with me, makes so happy. I knew I was going to love this film, because just as Marcus said, it's the Batman movie I've been waiting for my whole life, but I never even hoped that I'll be able to share this love with everyone else. Thank you Matt Reeves!

One thing i love about the movie is how it contextualizes goons, basically every other movie or whatever basically just short hands them as hired mercs or just simple thugs. In this they make them come off as a scarily realistic aspect of deranged able to find eachother over the internet and do something horrible. the scene of all of the Riddlers goons about to basically cause a mass shooting is far more scary then any mutant warlord or evil millionaire with a mech suit.

Since they confirmed that this batman isn’t gonna be in the dceu I really hope they introduce more of the bat family in pattinsons batman movies. I hope they introduce the Bat Family during next movie, which will most likely be an adaptation of No Man's Land, and then we'll have A Death In The Family, with the Dining Faces Ripped Off Scene, would be absolutely horrifying to see on the big screen (and Pattinson would 1000% be down for it)

@@alchemistofsteel8099 I think they could pull it off in one film, if they put an ellipse and throw us into full No Man's Land. I feel it would be a nice opportunity to introduce Jason seeing how he met Batman, and since every body knows Robin they can almost jump start the film using Dick. Could end with the Joker killing Jason and Film 3 is A Death in the Family with maybe elements of Dark Knight Rises

The soundtrack is phenomenal. The tones that play when Batman marches sound like a variation on the chord progression used throughout from 'Something in the Way'. And the way 'Ava Maria' is worked in along with the strings to play on horror tropes... It's so good. I think it's my favourite incorporation of licensed music in a soundtrack (aside from Edgar Wright's films) and along with the aesthetics and characterisation of the villains, I finally felt like I was experiencing Gotham on the big screen.

The beginning monologue is so damn good. The cinematography is amazing. The thriller/suspense feel and comic book/cartoon Batman feel is great. My favorite Catwoman and my favorite Batman. Catwoman felt straight out of the cartoons, just watched them recently and it was perfect. I hope we get to see more of Bruce Wayne in the next one. But man, every fight scene with Batman....the punches hit so hard. The aggressiveness. Fucking loved it. Even after 3 hours I was so ready for more. The Nolan movies are our Blockbuster Batman, while this is our Comic Book Batman.
