I went to the hospital when I was 12. My Maltese was so lonesome. He looked so lost. When I got home he was jumping and and he licked my face uncontrollably. He was lost without me. He died of Diabetic Kidney failure. It has been years now but it still hurts a bit. Bingo truly loved me. He was the best.

I lost my service dog to cancer Broke my heart I had to put my best friend down I was a mess for 4 days It took me about six months to get a new dog I just could not cope with coming home to not have that special greeting and unconditional love waiting to see me I still call my new dog(cooper) Bailey from time to time he will always be with me even though he isn’t here. Cooper is awesome and loving but no dog will ever replace Bailey. Cooper I s learning and developing in to a great companion I love him as I did Bailey . It’s all what u put into them .just like kids or any relationship for that matter . Be good be patient they will love you for there hole life. You may have two or three dogs in your lifetime, but they will only have one owner so if you get a dog commit to it and love it just as much from day one today zero and beyond . If not, then don’t bother dogs aren’t for you. You can live vicariously through others who have dogs and not have the responsibility.

My Kelpie X Maltese is 20 next month. She has been with me almost half my life. She has helped me through the darkest days of Loss and heartache and also shared the absolute joy. In 2019 we were hit by black summer bush fires. I opened up a recovery centre and she came every day and helped others during loss and heartbreak. She comes with me when I ride my horse and still helps me move cows and sheep daily. 3 years ago she was attacked by a dog and lost her hearing. She hasn't missed a beat. We have our own communication with each other. A lot of sign language with varying energy and facial expressions. Her little legs cover a lot of ground with our border collie and Kelpie. She has all her teeth and still has lots of zoomies and dam swims. She's my little ride or die partner. She enjoys being a little cow dog only difference now she sleeps more. So fulfilling

Her resilience and spirit are truly inspiring. Communication through sign language and expressions sounds so special. She’s a true ride-or-die partner, and it’s wonderful to hear she's still full of energy and joy. Here's to many more zoomies and dam swims together! 🐶🌟😊

My only wish is that …1. People should absolutely realize they ARE part of the family and should be treated as such. 2. Do NOT get a fur baby if you’re going to regret it after three month and tie it up in the backyard for the rest of its life. 3. Teach your kids how to respect and treat your fur baby. 4. Make sure your fur baby has the best care possible just as you would your kids. 5. First AND foremost never get a fur baby for the kids and expect THEM to take over the care of a puppy because it will wear off after a short period and Mom and Dad will have ALL the responsibility and no matter how much their cute little faces beg and plead, trust me. The fur baby will be the one that suffers. They are a huge responsibility and it’s a big decision for a lot of years. But, they are definitely worth the unconditional love and companionship they give, just make sure you’re making the right decision for them as well🐶❤️💯

I consider raising a dog like raising children. It takes knowledge and a lot of work. I do a lot of reading and watching videos on dogs. Socialization is one of the most important things for a puppy to grow up into a fine dog. My 2 year old female Australian cattle dog Koda is a maniac. But when I tell her to stop, stay and come she does right away. Very smart, loyal and obedient! I love her so much! I adopted her on 11/15/23 from a local animal shelter. I hit the lottery with Koda! I can't say in words enough good about her. But she's still a maniac! I'm 68 years old, walking Koda 7 days a week. My doctor says I'm in phenominal heath for my age. It's because of God and dogs! I dog sit for some big dogs also. Koda loves everybody including all animals. She's a saint of the dog world! And if she's forced to fight, she is a fighter. I break up dog fights in a matter of seconds. Koda prefers to be a lover. Everybody loves Koda! I'm extremely blessed!

@@Smelly-Belly I've rescued dogs from private people over the years, but Koda was the first from a dog pound. I live in Illinois, Koda was a surrender from Iowa, because I guess Iowa euthanizes dogs after 7 days in the pound. My sister found her for me on Facebook and she was right close by in my county. Koda was only in the pound for 2 days before I adopted her. An elderly Christian lady friend of mine just recently had a stroke. Her son took her dog Tinker Bell to the pound, not even trying to find a home for her. People were upset! I found out about it right away, so on 4/11/24 I went to the pound and adopted Tinker. She's 11 years old, a Jack Russell terrier/Chihuahua mix. She still acts like a young pup. Koda and Tinker are best friends playing all the time. I tell you what, adopting dogs from the pound has been very inspirational for me. I'm very happy and so are Koda and Tinker. It's been a journey! I believe things happen for a reason! And no I do not know the reason, but God does. Thanks for the reply! Take care! May many blessings fall upon you and your family.

1. Ignoring them, 2. Using punishment based techniques. (Yelling or physical discipline). 3. Segregation from the pack. (Should never be isolated from the family). 4. No house rules. (Consistency is key). 5. Punishing fearful behaviour. 6. Using a crate as punishment. (Should be a happy place, not a time out place, It should be their safe place). 7. Rubbing their nose in it. ( positive reinforcement, not cruelty and abuse. 8. Using the come command for negative reasons. It should be for positive reasons, like play, food, or going for a walk, not for punishment. 9. Being a party pooper. They need to play fetch, or running after a ball, even for ten minutes. (You can all thank me later).

I had a female Beagle that was 8 years old and was diagnosed with Kidney Disease...Our vet would not be open to us about how much time she may have left...we really didn't understand the seriousness of the disease. I am a disabled Firefighter and suddenly found myself unable to work anymore when she was around 6 years old and I would not have been able to get through my depression without her...we bonded so much and she was my shadow 24 / 7. I found myself having to have surgery and was away from her for several weeks. Some people don't understand how some dogs have extreme separation anxiety and can get very depressed when their world and routines suddenly change. My Dixie got so depressed our family members that kept her couldn't get her to hardly eat or drink and just was so lifeless... Once I got back home she was excited to see me but in the days that followed I could tell that something was not quite right. After about a week she completely stopped eating and started throwing up. We took her to the vet and they kept her for 3 days giving her everything they could. Again being separated just completely finished things up for her will to live. We decided to just bring her home and love on her and keep her close to us. On the morning of the 3rd day from her being home from the vet she climbed into her bed and went to sleep and shortly after that she crossed the rainbow bridge 🌈 🐕...That was 1 1/2 years ago and I have had a very difficult time dealing with her loss. I never knew that I could grieve so much for the loss of a pet. I felt so guilty for a long time thinking that me leaving her caused her so much grief and depression that she gave up which caused her kidneys to start to fail and then everything just dominoed from there. Please cherish every minute that you have with your pets and give them your unconditional love during the short time they are with us....I will forever miss my Dixie girl.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Dixie sounded like a wonderful and loving companion, and it's clear she meant the world to you. Grieving for a pet is so incredibly tough, but it's because they fill our lives with so much love and joy. Don't be too hard on yourself; you gave her a beautiful, loving home, and I'm sure she treasured every moment with you. Cherishing those memories is a lovely way to keep her spirit close. 🌈🐾

Puzzles are fun and easy to make. Putting treats on a towel and rolling it up and having your dog sniff and work to uncover the treat is a good one. Freezing treats in an ice cube tray with doggie-safe broth or water is great for hot days. There are also snuffle mats you can buy to hide treats in. Tearing paper is also a good activity. I use the brown paper from boxes and my dog is happy to tear it up. It keeps him busy and he finds it super fun.

Instead of free feeding your dog make them earn their food by food luring. Feed them their food when training them daily. Dogs aren't as complicated as people make them out to be. They may not think just like us but it isn't really that far off. You just need to put how you would feel in the context of a dog and how they see the world. That really applies to most living things. A good general rule for most living things is don't look at them too long. Take breaks. If you walk past someone on the street and they don't take there eyes off you how does that make you feel?

I think it was a Robert Cabral video that I watched 4 years ago, where he said, "Never punish puppy for learning." Well, my "puppy" is now 4 years old and he has never been punished for learning. He knows the word "no" as it has been used during undesirable behaviors. However, "no" is never shouted or said in anger, but as a flat, simple expression to denote disapproval, followed by showing pup what the desired behavior is, followed by a reward and lots of positive words/praise. Using this method, potty training took only 2 short weeks. This method, along with pre-teaching (i.e., whenever you see pup going potty, training moment or not, praise and reward are given). Pup quickly associates what is desired. All mistakes are teaching moments. After learning desirable behavior, the rare mistakes are again teaching moments to reinforce desired behavior. As for high anxiety or fearful behavior, the methods shown in this video didn't work for me. What did work, however, is giving pup commands he knows (sit, down, stay, etc...often repeatedly) in a firm and calm manner, worked and still works much better. House rules? You bet! Pup knows which items of furniture are off limits and that he will not get treats from the dinner table (although he sits patiently hoping I'll change the rule). My pup loves routine as well. Mess up his routine, and you better do something positive to make up for it. For example, when traveling, meals don't always come at the routine times and then pup refuses to eat. Positive make up? Give him a meal of his favorite wet food, Turducken...he will eat that! Don't take him for a long walk? Better play Frisbee in the yard for a long while! Dogs require that you invest your interest and time in their individual needs. Do that, and pup will be a faithful, loyal, and loving friend. Come bedtime, I tell pup, "Time to sleep," and he jumps up on the bed and rolls over on his back for tummy rubs. After a few minutes of that, he will not bother me again until I get up in the morning (except for the rare times he wakes me up to go potty). Love my pup...can't imagine life now without him!

I have American Eskimo dogs.They get their feelings hurt if you just scold them.Easy to train.But they can think for themselves too.Which can get them into some situations.Had a mini named Cleo.I got her from someone when she was about a year and a half old.I would let her out to go potty.She would be up the hill.I would call her.She would look at me like,Not yet.Then make her way back.But she eventually went down hill.Chose my mom over me.Not unusual for an Eskie.They always have a number one person.Very loyal and smart.Dogs cheer us up.Help us.Wonderful animals deserve respect.

I agree with most of what you said here with a few caveats. The first one is your notion that putting a dog's nose to what they did confuses them. When your tone and body language tell them that they've made you unhappy putting their nose to it tells them that what they are specifically smelling their own sent on is what made you unhappy. Bear in mind that the roughest you should ever be with your dog is during playtime. When correcting your dog's bad behavior physical contact should be light. When telling your dog that what they did is bad you should place your forefingers on their snout or between the eyes. Do not hit. Simply touch. This is the nicest way for one dog to tell another "stop it" or "don't do that". Additionally using timeout can instill discipline and self-control. Using these simple methods in combination with rewarding correct behavior helps the dog to learn and grow faster. It's also worth mentioning that while the so-called experts claim a dog's intelligence caps at about the equivalent of a 3-5 year old toddler. I have a lifetime of experience with dogs and have seen many demonstrate much higher intelligence.

Limited use of punitive training does have its place in correcting bad behaviors. I.e. a sharp, harsh "*NO!*" at the instant they start humping a leg can get them to stop, but it must be coupled with giving them something else to distract their attention until their leg-humping behavior has subsided. No hitting and no more than one correction.

My dog liked to rip up paper when we were out. From the very first time, I treated it like a game, jump on the floor and grab the paper saying "No Mess's" and laughing as I picked it up, playing. We would leave a ball of rolled up paper in the room while we were out knowing what we would find when we came home. She loved it!

number 2 is just blatantly incorrect. If the dog knows what it's being punished for, then it's an effective deterrent. Same goes for training them. If they know what they're getting treats and lovins for, they usually do that. The old carrot and stick method does work.

Hi! To the best of our knowledge, this usually involves consulting with a licensed professional. They can assess your needs and determine if an ESA would benefit you 🐾
@robinrobin02
@robinrobin02 Ай бұрын
I have an ESA myself so I've looked into this. Your primary care Dr can do the letter, or a therapist...they will likely ask you explain why you want/need one. They about the 'want' aspect because, you can also get a break on monthly 'pet rent' (this doesn't apply to a rented room in a home)& no pet deposit, with this letter and they also this. So they might make you explain yourself first.

Never ever lock a dog in a crate ! No more than you would do that to a child. It breaks my heart terribly when i see that, and even more so when the family is home and dog is still in there. It has a door for moments to take them to the vet or for their own safety. But NOT to be there for hours at a time.

Ah yes the "positive reinforcement is the only way". Ridiculous. Dogs do want to please us. They also will respect you if you are the leader of the pack, and the leader of the pack makes corrections to the pack in the moment and they don't always need to be "positive".

Four days ago, my Great Pyrenees ate something bad, threw up in 7 different places in the house, cost me about $400 (wife won’t tell me how much), came home to die but didn’t. Once I got the news she wasn’t going to make it, I did what I’ve done for years. I started her grave. At 70, it’s harder to dig the big holes big dogs need. I got down to that hard layer of dirt I have to get through. I can now take the time to bust through it without pushing myself. It’s hot now in Texas so she lays in the way in the piles of fresh dirt. I never expected to be digging a grave for a dog and enjoy their company while doing so. lol. Some day, she and I will need to uncover this hole again.
