I had a custom fitting. It was a great sales pitch! I gained 20 yards distance between 6-irons from mine (32-degrees) versus new (24-degrees). I couldn't wait to get the fitted clubs. Then I started looking at what I "got sold." I paid 163% more for the same clubs (including shafts) than if I had ordered directly from the manufacturer's website--not to mention they were the second most expensive clubs they could sell me! I figured out the loft difference and realized that there was no effective gain against my 24-degree 4-iron. Yep, I GOT SOLD! Everybody says, "Go get fit," but if you are not working in the industry it's more likely you will "get sold" too.
@MrDaglish775 ай бұрын
Sure you're in the majority. Fitting is a by and large a scam, another word for a hard sales pitch. I've been advised GI clubs and hand made Japanese forged at two different fitters in the space of two weeks. They either haven't got a clue or just don't care - or both. Bottom line is that pro golfers have got absolutely no interest in anyone with a handicap over 5, they are lower life to them, just a means of making some money. A good idea is to get your numbers from a paid fitting and then put your bag together yourself via eBay/used/second hand and find a guy at the range to tweak them for you. Quite enjoyable once you get into it..

Distance isn’t everything. Do you at least hit the new ones more consistent?
@kenphillips75945 ай бұрын
One consideration is whether your swing is repeatable. I have had a few fittings and decided that i had to do something about my swing fundamentals first because my swing variations negated a good recommendation. So I agreed with my pro to take lessons every 8 weeks and get consistent. I then got fitted, again, and the recommendation was quite different and far better.

I do like the video, but it would be nice to see a high handicaper go through a fitting and see what kind of improvement they get. Seeing a scratch golfer get fit doesn’t really translate to someone that hits it fat most of the time. I’m not trying to hate on the video. I’m finally going to bite the bullet and spend the money and go get fit for new clubs. Very curious to see what clubs that fit me could do.

Ego: 100% ! I have played golf since 1997, and I have seen SO many guys that want "tour blades"... they need to "shape their shots" and stuff like that ... and yes; they really shaps theirs shots (slice or hook).... I think that 90% of the guys I have met (in this category) would be scoring lower with more forgiving clubs... if not more.... I was at a fitting not long ago; and he asked me what I was thinking regarding "type" of clubs and shafts: And I just said: I don't care: what ever is best for me.... and he said "thank goodness...", and we had a chat about, espessially guys", that came in and "know" before the fitting that they HAVE TO HAVE xtra stiff shafts (or whatever), and it is a struggel when they actually have a regular swing.

I like the guy saying 4-6 degree gap...I had my custom fit irons spaced at 6 degrees as decided 15-18 yards per mid range club was plenty accurate for me! allowed me to get two options at each yardage between 200-230yards with a mixture of irons, hybrids and fairway woods. I do get comments on having so many head covers in the bag though!

nothing wrong with that! I have hybrids, long irons and 7 wood (no 9 wood!) for options at the top end. Find it so much easier to soften a short iron shot so maximised options at the top end instead! Ultimately, what works for you is the right answer!

I love your content, however what is the point of being fitted for clubs using a ball that you don’t normally use, surely you will get false results. At my fitter, I always use the ball I play with (AD333) which gives me good feedback because I know my distances. If I was fitted using a Prov1 or similar then what good is that data, because I can’t afford to pay £40-50 a dozen for premium balls. Plus my fitter is independent and has all the brands to test.

I know Hannah is trying to help out with this video but honestly, unless you know a fitter you can actually trust it is not worth it. A good golf swing works with any club as long as you use roughly the right stiffness/shaft. I would say as long as you are not of Single digit or better forget the fitting and go for lessons. A good golf coach can even give you recommendations on what to get based on your skill/swing.
@hannahholdenNCG5 ай бұрын
I kind of have the opposite experience to this, I can hit some awful shots with non fitted clubs and I have decent technique. I have used so many fitters over the years even before I did videos and haven’t had a bad experience. I do tend to stick to seeing fitters from brands and not sure if that helps. It is interesting people have lots of comments really about the quality of fitters. Where abouts are you based I wonder if it is a location thing?

I bring the balls I game to any fitting or when I buy any clubs. Been hitting the TM Inked as of late and have really liked them. I wasted $400 on a fitting and the clubs I got based off that fitting got sold. Just because I'm tall, 6'6", they had me at +1.5" in length and 4* upright. Everything went left...everything. I ended up going standard lie and length in the MP 243. Tried 2 flat in the i530 and didn't like the feel of them at all. The place I did my fitting asked me how close I was to a certain, more pricey, part of town. I asked them why...you going to base your pricing off where I live? The silence was deafening on the other end. That should've been my first clue not to go there.
@timmarchant83805 ай бұрын
Went to three iron fittings at 3 different places, American Golf, PXG and AF Golf, got three different advised lie angles going from 3 up to 1 down…Either the measurement equipment in all three places is inaccurate or my swing changed wildly from one fitting to the next. Both are possible! The fitting at American Golf was most definitely not done with a decent ball, it was in a bay with a bang average range ball. Enjoyed my experiences at both PXG and AF Golf and had confidence in my fitters, not so at American Golf, who were the people who fitted me 1 down, standing 6ft 4 with a steep swing Physics tends to suggest i need a more upright swing, but who knows! Big recommendation for the team at AF who told me they could not improve on my irons as a package although some irons were better in certain areas. I value that sort of honesty hugely and went straight to a wedge fitting where I used some of the money saved from my iron budget to purchase three new wedges as mine were a bit tired. Always considered fittings as good as a lesson for the insights it gives to your game, so definitely worthwhile for most golfers. No one’s swing repeats shot in shot out, but, I remain of the view that the higher the handicap the greater the difference between swings, the greater the swing inconsistencies the less relevance to a fitting session which works on small incremental gains.
@hannahholdenNCG5 ай бұрын
@@timmarchant8380 lie angle is interesting as every manufacturer has their own standard. So 2 flat in one brand could be 1 flat in another brand. Lie angle will also change relative to the length of the club, so a shorter club with play more flat and a longer club more upright so may require a different change.

Ask them about swing weight for instance. Blank faces. I needed a replacement grip 50gm. I was given a mid size 60gm. Fitter said, ‘10 gms! Won’t make any difference!’ Clueless.
