We live in an old house and got a male from the SPCA. He had been returned twice and was quite shy. I brought him home and he has blossomed into a very happy cat. He is remarkably well behaved and such a gentleman. He is out in the backyard at this moment hunting and he will do that for hours. Oddly he never leaves the yard. He is such a handsome boy and we love him to bits. He has 3 staff in the house and gets a LOT of attention plus grooming.

Ours are out all year round, hunting, fighting with foxes in Scandinavia. They like snow, winter and darkness and are not fat, bored or anxious and scratch walls and furniture. They are just big calm cats that snore so the whole house vibrates

All these are true of my three year old Maine Coon mix I got from a shelter. He's a great joy to have around and when he asks for attention, I give it and when he wants to be alone, he has places I respect as off limits to myself. Most of the time he wants to be close to me. Regular grooming is a must and over time he he came to enjoy these sessions. A wet wipe and shedding comb work wonders. Although I live in a one bedroom apartment, he has full access to all of it with the whole living room is his play pen. He seems content. As noted, he does not like ANY closed door between him and myself.

Hi, I don't agree about maine coons not being suited for outside. They are active, energetic cats that enjoy hunting and are very successful at it! Whilst there are risks of letting your cat outside, there are also lots of benefits and in the UK it is very normal for cats to be given freedom to go in and out. I had a maine coon for 13 years who adored the outside and who cleared the local allotments of rats. Whilst there were obviously risks to him, he was very healthy fit and happy for his whole life (until cancer sadly took him at 13) and I think would have been miserable if limited to indoor space. I think it is important to consider that people live in different environments with different risks and that for some areas it might not be a bad thing for your cat to have more freedom to be a cat.

As one who has had cats for a long time is it fun to watch some of those advices coming from YT. The only thing is being more aware regarding the food and what to look for. Getting a kitten this month and haven't really learnt anything new except from that. And i looked at the ingredients for the wet food I bought before I really watched the video about food and my gut feeling about was spot on. Saying being the owner of a cat is a ability to see the what the animal need. Too much noise on yuotube

Agreed 💯 I had a Maine coon growing up who spent just about every waking moment of his life outside by his own choice lol they absolutely love being outside but my Maine coons I have now in my adult life rather be inside next to me and only venture outside if my jindo collie is going outside with them.

I totally agree that cats should be able to go outside, but I don’t think they should roam free. I’m from Australia and the cat population is detrimental to the native bird population, they kill so many it’s pushing many species to endangerment. Cats are able to be harnessed trained, it’s much safer to supervise your cat outside. Plus it strengthens your bond with your cat

I wanted to get a Maine coon. After watching this I changed my mind
@TheTurtleTribalNation Жыл бұрын
Why ? That’s dumb don’t let the internet take over your life and make decisions for you . Maine coons are super sweet gentle cats . Even better the black ones never get adopted . I find there’s a lot of strays that need help so why bother wasting the money going to buy one 😊
@brianmitchell719 Жыл бұрын
What made you change your mind? Because tbh this don’t give a good description of having a Maine coon. I have two Maine coons and they’re just so nice and sweet,they do love going outside just depends on the cat the Maine coon I had growing up absolutely loved going outside to hunt and play with the neighborhood cats and dogs “yes you heard that right dogs lol” the two I have now don’t go outside unless my jindo collie is with them but than again they’re always hanging out with my dog lol. Best advice I can give you is go to some local shelters and socialize with them who knows a Maine coon might just pick you.

Most Maine coons are very curious and loving,,if you spend alot of time with them like I did,,mine would play hide & seek,,so funny & so cute,,and if he got mad he would chase me I'd run & shut a door!! Lol Junebuggy was the absolute best playmate ever,,had his own car seat,,an Eddie Baur stroller that was my grand childs,he had his own chair he would sit at the table with manners better than a child, he would only eat after the blessing was said,,it was just so cute,,he would come into the bathroom with me to take a bath,,had his lil spot to lay,,his own baby bed on the floor ,,he won first place at the Wilson county Fair in 2015 in Tennessee and got Best of show,,,I was shocked and proud!! Everyone could not believe he rode in the stroller like a kid,,people were asking if he was real then he turned his head!!! Lol miss my Big sweet Boy❤😢

Lmao everyone on these videos always rescued a mix, the shelter most likely sold you on that so you thought you got a more exotic cat, still love your cat, but you didn't get a rescue coon
@buyerbware253 ай бұрын
Maine Coon cats are very popular, and for that reason, are more likely than other breeds to be surrendered to a shelter (sometimes by individuals) or rescued from breeders, then put in shelters by animal welfare groups. I have owned several purebred cats, and never bought any. They were dumped in my neighborhood.

not suited for outside? they are literally outside cats to hunt rodents and stuff lol
@danseimaneskin59572 ай бұрын
A Maine Coon cat is not the best choice for an indoor cat imo. They need a lot of exercise and if you choose to never let it outside you will need to consider if you have enough time and energy to play with the cat and keep it active. They need stimulation and tend to get bored if they are left alone all day. The Maine Coons I know love the outdoor life. (Safe environment, not much traffic, also the cats spend the night in the house) During summer my parents' cat is out in the garden the whole day and only comes in to eat and use the litter box. It's true that they tend to kill birds tho but in my opinion it's a challenge to avoid boredom if you keep the cat indoors all the times. You can train it to walk with a harness ofc.
