1. Have an up-to-date prescription. 2. Get your pupillary distance measured. 3. Select the right frames. 4. Buy the right frames. 5. Beware of add-ons 6. Check the return policy. 7. Consider paying extra to get the frames that you like. 8. Consider purchasing more than one pair. 9. Use a protective case and a microfiber cloth.

I’ve worn glasses my whole life. I am hard to fit, am very sensitive to glasses fitting properly, and have a heavy prescription, which calls for extra thin lenses. My eyeglasses now would cost over $1,000. The frames are titanium metal (I have three in pewter, bronze and silver) and cost about $350 each. But I have had each pair for 15 years. They never break. The lenses cost about $650. I go to a boutique optical shoppe, where I can go in as many times as necessary to get them adjusted. If you don't like the frames and lenses after wearing them for up to 60 days, you can exchange them free of charge once. The shoppe I go to is not like Lens Crafters or other high volume (like department stores) retailers, where they are constantly trying to sell you. At the optical shoppe I go to, you pay more, but their focus is on the customer, not their store sales.

Very informative. Just got my eyes checked yesterday at a Big Box Store. I asked up front if the PD was included in the exam. Clerk confirmed it would be. During the exam I "mentioned" it a second time. That's when the Dr gave it to me, saying that it's only given when patient asks for it. They were professional and I felt confident that I'd received a good exam. Today I'll be ordering a pair (or two) online. This will be the first time for me wearing glasses, except for some fashion ones I wore years ago. I'm looking for a style and size that will be close to these. BTW, all the ones you tried on looked great on you. I think numbers 1,2, and 4 stood out for me. Thank you for making this video. I'm sure it will help many people. Cheers!

As on optometrist I'd say that was a pretty good overview. Just want to make a few points on some things you touched on. 1) the number you were talking about as the "lens size" refers only to their width. The height of the glasses is not typically written on the frame. 2) The PD isn't provided because it isn't part of your prescription and isn't part of the exam. Don't be surprised if you are asked to pay for your PD. Many places are moving to adding a small charge ($5-20) to obtain that measurement. 3) Don't necessarily skip the add-ons. I would recommend polycarbonate material for almost everyone because it is thinner, lighter, and (most importantly) way more durable than the standard plastic. It is often (and SHOULD always be) illegal to put kids in a standard plastic because of its tendency to shatter. 4) In addition to different frames for different occasions, you should think about different prescriptions for different occasions. If you stare at a computer screen all day, a pair of glasses specific to that task can help alleviate a lot of eyestrain (and neck-strain if you have multifocal lenses). 5) If you have had great service from your doctor please consider buying from them directly! Unfortunately, doctors often make little-to-no money off your exam itself so the glasses are how they stay in business. If you value the service and care your doctor provides then help keep them in business and able to provide that care. Number 2!

Real Men Real Style yes I just got a pair of glass from my eye dr, and I realize I paid 5 times the actual amount I would have gotten it outside. however, I was not much disturbed because of the good services provided. moreover, I was given my prescription which I can use to obtain spares. the prescription suggested that I can use it for 2 to three years.

@@isabalamuhammad1711 I went to my eye dr too because their exam was less than the higher quality place. I hate the frames and the lenses they gave me. I keep cleaning them, but the lens do not provide a crystal clear picture. I need higher quality lenses.

No charge for PD in the USA 🇺🇸 and you are wrong it is obviously part of your prescription. Like he said they are hesitant to give out the PD without being asked because with it you can shop online instead of their store in the office. You being an optometrist creates a conflict of interest regarding PD doesn’t it. Thanks for the other info tho. Iv asked for my PD and have gotten straight up attitude then reluctantly given my PD. Why? it’s my measurement and I’m paying for my exam/appointment it’s unethical to keep my own information from me on purpose.
@xedden22 жыл бұрын
@@MrMagoo-rg8er Actually no, it isn't legally part of your prescription in most states. A few states say that it is part of the prescription but most don't and it usually isn't even measured properly until you are ordering glasses. Some places will still give it to you but more and more it is a paid thing because people buy these poorly made, poorly fitting glasses and then want us to fix them for free.

Nice simplified take on this. I'm an optometrist in Australia and by our medicare, law the PD has to be on the prescription, interesting you have to ask for it in the U.S, it also needs to be on the patient records. you have to be very careful with the frame size too, patients that are very short sighted need lenses with thick edges, so bigger frames will end up with bigger edges, looks really really bad and you'll have to end up spending lots and lots of money on high index lenses that aren't as thick. Coloured frames are also a great idea, but don't go and buy red frames if you have red hair haha. I've seen a lot of glasses from the Internet and made in China from holidays, and they do a great job most of the time. I really wouldn't recommend doing it for your first pair ever or of its your first progressive or bi/trifocals, they all take adjusting to, and optometrists provide great after care for adapting. Always use a lens cleaner too!! Scratches ruin your best visual acuity!

It's frustrating because it's not required by law in the US. Some will even charge a fee for the PD because they're losing out on commission sales. I first tried out the frames at an Oakley store, and fell in love with that brand. You can also try out www.sportrx.com as well. You can order the frame, try it out, and return if it doesn't fit you. They have awesome customer service, frame selection, and very good quality lenses. They have videos on youtube as well. They're located in San Diego, CA.

HE need to teach abut the maker , Shamir, Essilor, Hoya, Kodak, ZEISS, Varilux etc.... you need to learn abourt CR39, Poly, Trivex, Glass -HiIndex etc..... more info out ther I could expose the Greed of corporations, I even know where to go buy your own Lenses Optic and take them to the lab to be cut off to your doctor measurement. here in Morocco people know this stuff. consumer be ware!!!
@daveymut46305 жыл бұрын
Ive worked in Optics here in the UK for nearly 15 years, we are not required to provide the P.D at all! It is not deemed part of the prescription, it is part of the dispensing process, and not thr sight test. We sont often give out the mesurment because if it is given, and a patient buys specs online and they get made wrong, it is rhe resposibility of the person who takes the measurement to fix it! ( even if it was taken correctly and just input wrong on the website! Which happens more often than u think. So we are always reluctant to take it and give it freely. Jjst and insight from the UK :)

Wear glasses to see. It's way more important than worrying about people making fun of you. Those people are jerks. Ignore them, Tatum. They don't deserve your attention. I've worn glasses, then contacts for years, now glasses again. Seeing is so much more important than how people view your looks. I'm sorry they are teasing you, but you'll be out of school soon and that teasing will end and you will be a stronger person because you endured it with grace. Go forth, see and conquer.

Hi Antonio. I'm female, but I watched this video (and the other one about eyeglasses making people look smarter) cause I think your comments, information and advices also applies to us, women, as well. I was looking at the chart showing face shapes and the frames suggested for each one, and I was surprised that the "oversized" ones are supposedly not suitable for any face shape! Why is that? What do you think about oversized prescription glasses? What message do you think they send? I always thought they were very hip and trendy and a bold statement piece. On the other hand, the "aviator" style is recommended for all face shapes. Why is the aviator suitable for every type of face? I hate the shape, I think they are ugly and look awful, but it must certainly be the other way around cause they are so popular and on demand. Thanks for your videos, they are very entertaining and useful. I'm from Chile.

I have a question about transitions lenses. I have been told that they are for the elderly, but, I can really see their usefulness in a job like min, where I am in and out of buildings all day. Thanks!
@12ealDealOfficial9 жыл бұрын
+Marlon M I've worn transition lenses for years; my personal experience is that if you don't find the effect annoying, they do work and dim according to the amount of light, gradually. Personally, I have never liked wearing transition lenses and prefer to have a pair of prescription sunglasses to wear for work. My biggest gripe is that they remain dim a little too long when stepping indoors.
@xedden29 жыл бұрын
+Marlon M Definitely not just for the elderly. I have a lot of patients who love transitions. As 12ealDeal said, the biggest problem with them is that they take a while to clear up after you step inside. (usually around a minute). That improves with every change of the formula they make but something to be aware of. Another thing to note is that standard transitions don't react behind your windshield, so if you want them for driving you need to get something like Transitions Extra which has a little tint all the time but reacts behind the windshield.

Just curious if you got paid for advocating these online retailers? I've been in the industry for 15 years and I see the effects of buying online on a weekly basis. Old 25 year old progressive designs, ill-fitting frames, and induced prism from making the lenses wrong that can cause headaches and permanent damage. Online sales have taken some of the market from your local independent optometrist so most have adapted by provided discounted packages. You can make sure its done right for the same price as online. Also, if you have insurance you can get a much better quality lens for the same out of pocket expense. Ditch the online shopping and find an independent OD that cares about their patients (not customers).

the frameless ones look the best.

i like 2 1 looks minimalistic (metal frame?), but 2 will likely outlast it. Also, u can match sunshade easily for frame 2. Walmart got those spring ones with hooks that grab onto both ends of ur frame, get the shape that best fits ur frame. Metal frame + spring sunshade = frame breakage due to metal fatigue over time. 4 seems a little big on u, imo. never tried rimless, those look fragile to me.

Antonio, you were in Scouts. I'm curious, are you also a member of the Brotherhood of Eagle?

+Frank Lein I'm not - just made Eagle and haven't been too involved since (well - my son is a weblos and I donate my time and money.....)

+Real Men Real Style making Eagle is all that's needed to be in the Brotherhood of Eagle. Since you are also a Marine, the analogy also works here: Once an Eagle, always an Eagle.

My number one tip is don’t feel pressured to update your frame. My doctor always says go pickout a new frame, when I know they can easily use my current frame.
