Some of these are fair - the headphones thing for Senua seems especially logical (never played it, never will, just not my type of game). The voiced Disco Elysium, also fair, even permadeath for Fire Emblem. A lot of these, though, are "we're including an obligatory caveat line so we can say we're not difficulty gatekeeping, but difficulty gatekeeping" - people can play at whatever difficulty they want, whatever fits their lives, and that's not just "fine because we feel obligated to say it's fine" it's actually fine. Not everything has to be about bragging rights, or accomplishing something hard, sometimes people want to play games to *gasp* play games. (Also, the Sims one, when it's the narrator and only a tiny minority of players that will ever do it that way, the words "right" way and "wrong" way are especially egregious)

Fallout 4 in survival mode. While it's a huge pain in the ass never having fast travel, you do get the vertibird signal grenades in the story. And without it, the settlement building doesn't really mean much in regards to survival. With it turned on you can only save when you sleep, your carry weight is massively reduced, and you can now get diseases that can only be cured by a journey to a doctor or crafting/finding antibiotics, so building settlements becomes important. Throw in that consumables can negatively affect you if not cooked/purified and the damage parity of everyone (the player AND enemies) doing 200% more damage and it makes things much harder at the start and also much more immersive.

The game I played wrong for many hours was FF7 Remake. I was getting my ass handed to me by pretty basic enemies and my friend explained to me that I was playing it wrong.. lol She basically told me I was trying to play it as an action combat game and not a strategy combat game. I was getting mad that the dodge sucks and doesn’t actually dodge anything, the block is way too slow and doesn’t work, and enemies eat way too much damage! So she explained that basic attacks are basically useless, they’re just there to fill your gauge so you can use your abilities, spells and limits and stuff. Also, it’s much more of a turn based game than I hack and slash combat game, you attack, use your abilities, back off and block, take your hits and go back in and repeat. Once I started to adjust and actually utilize my skills and team more, I had no problem! I died on Hell House on easy about ten times before and then beat it first try on normal once I started playing “correctly”. Honestly though, I feel like the game wants you to play one way, but kinda tricks you into playing another way. It’s weird. My only gripe still is the really lame and needy squad. I hate having to constantly switch and micromanage my team, I get overwhelmed sometimes trying to juggle them and I wish that they would at least use basic skills and abilities on their own! I love how Kingdom Hearts games have a menu where you can adjust the team AI, make them more defensive, aggressive, you can choose how and when they use potions and items… I felt like I had actual backup and if they weren’t being helpful I could easily switch a few basic settings and change it! I always had Donald on crowd control with magic, attacking low level enemies and finishing off any low health enemies. I had Goofy watching my back and prioritizing any enemies currently attacking me or locked onto me, and they both would use items regularly while I focus on the major threats. If FF7 remake had a system even half of that… I’d be very happy! It just sucks having to keep swapping characters and losing focus on what I was doing. Anyway, FF7 is a much better game when you play it the way they intended you to play it. I probably won’t replay it because I’m not a fan of the team juggling aspect, but I definitely had fun and really like it much more now. I’m almost done I think, I’m currently on my way to get Aerith and I think part one ends soon after.. I have maybe one or two chapters left.
@sadowolf2 жыл бұрын
I ultimately thought FF7 Remake was still just okay, but I made the exact same mistake you did! Action/hack-n-slash games are kinda my bread and butter, and since the game has the presentation of that genre, I naturally just defaulted to playing it the way I would those games, only to come away feeling that everything was pretty unintuitive. Once I started playing it more like I would an RPG it definitely helped the battles feel more satisfying (I wish I had a friend to tell me, and I wouldn't have had to switch up my style little by little haha). Also I think Hell House may be an epiphany point in the game because that's exactly where I kinda hit the wall that that forced me to really evaluate the way I was playing. Totally agree that the game's presentation comes off like it wants you to play a certain way (in action it looks very close to Square Enix's more action-based games) that isn't actually the way you're advised to, and because of that I never fully meshed with it. Ultimately while I did adjust my play style to fight more effectively, it kinda left me wishing the game actually did play more like a hack-n-slash with heavy RPG elements instead of some weird hybrid that ends up not being quite as compelling as either style in incorporates. Unfortunately I think that my biggest gripe against the game though I warmed up a bit more to the combat, I found everything else in the game kinda boring, which kinda sucks as a fan of the original.

The darksouls games have a very good weakness/ resistance system that actually suggests that the proper way to play the games is by switching weapons and tactics depending on the enemy. The second game also awards you for never dying or never using a bonfire... hats off to the people who have done either... and weapon durability is usually tied to resting at a bonfire and weapons that break either require an item or returning to a blacksmith. These systems open you up to an interesting play style where you switch weapons to maintain durability for the parts where you need a certain weapon the most and actually need the weapon repairing items... ever! So stop resting, repair only via dying and blacksmith, this also limits your estus forcing you to fight smart instead of just brute forcing to the next bonfire.

This is just an example, there are quite a few moments where you aren t well directed through dialogue or mission objectives. For the open world it s definitely worth removing the hud.

Metro: Exodus was a game that I kept telling myself was incredible. Eventually I realized I just wasn't having any fun. Making it more difficult certainly wouldn't improve that experience. (I did play Metro: 2033 in Russian, but with English subtitles. It's not mind-blowing or anything, but it's a cool addition to the game that's worth trying once.) Exodus, however; as soon as I finished the game I uninstalled it, never once touching either DLC campaign I paid for. I wanted it to be fun, I swear. It just wasn't.

If you don't mind me asking, what was it that you did not find fun in Metro Exodus? Not judging, i am merely curious.

@@awesomesauce5974 Yeah, I want to understand too. My biggest problem with the scarcity is that the weapons are super cool, but I was barely able to use them.

Yeah, Exodus took some time to acclimate to, with 4 large open worlds/regions, one for each season. And carefully traveling, not too close to a lake edge or a mutant shrimp will ambush, or the dragons will attack your car, or you!, and carry you to their nest of baby dragons. But your wife, Anna was utterly charming. Learning to upgrade weapons was a big help for firepower. It was melancholic, no action music, very quiet till something jumped at you. I can see not everyone liking it, then putting it on nightmare mode won’t make it any more enjoyable.

Playing The Witcher 3 on Death March now and not even in that difficulty is the alchemy system really necessary. The problem with alchemy is that it's just a hassle. So much time spent on menus. If there was an item wheel, maybe it would have more tolerable but why waste so much time on menus when you can just use signs and your swords, especially when you have to fight the same group of wolves and drowners again?
@bn-tc2tk2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I thought about doing an alchemy build buts it’s far too much work. Hell it’s already a pain in the ass getting enough money to buy or make dimeritium plates for Witcher armor

I partially agree. If they made actually using the stuff easier, I’d have used it more. But personally I enjoyed stopping for a minute, checking my Beastiary and prepping for a fight, I felt like an actual Witcher! If they can streamline that in the next game it will be amazing! I actually had an idea for a mod that posted to Reddit a while back to see if anyone would make it. My idea was this, have a quick access Beastiary that looks like an actual journal and when you open it, it slows time in combat or pauses if your safe or by Roach. You can see all your beasts and when you highlighted a beast, you could click on it and automatically apply all of your oils and stuff you have selected for that beast, so long as you have the ingredients. So at some point when you have free time, you go through your beastiary and make a few load outs for the more complicated beasts and bosses and set it up. Then when you’re tracking a beast, you just pull up the journal, click on the werewolf or whatever and Geralt will automatically slam the book, and chug the potions and apply the oils and balms and stuff. One click, ready for a specific fight. Then you could unlock loadout tabs at the top of the journal for quick access so you can make your own general purpose Witcher Preparations. I think that would work well in the game, be pretty simple to implement and be more immersive and let more people appreciate alchemy. Also, for faster pace players who don’t pay as much attention you can basically stumble into a fight, open the Beastiary journal and scroll quickly to the monster you see, click on it, receive your Witcher Prep Bonuses and keep fighting! I definitely think it should only slow time though, it still requires some planning ahead to actually fully read about the beast, weaknesses and set up the Prep loadouts properly. What do you think? Is that better than how the game is? I think so… I’m open to ideas or whatever too!

I feel this way about survival difficulty in Fallout 4. I feel like that's the way the game was meant to be played. Even on very hard the game seemed too easy, even after I chose to not use power armor. I tired out survival and haven't went back sense. The only downside is no fast travel. Thankfully you can ride a vertibird to reduce time.

The best way to play cyberpunk 2077 is to not have the Internet on when you first install the game get through the first section with Jackie and then find a spot towards the right bottom middle of the map that has a two perk shard that you can pick up and then go to a drop point quick save and then repeatedly duplicate it. Also doing the same thing with the mission where you can get and expensive real painting that drops down from space and duplicating that so you can sell it over and over. Now you affectively have infinite money in the infinite park shards. After that I updated the rest of the game, maxed out tech, and then I push over 1000 perk shards into the level 20 ability it lets you add damage to check weapons

The best way to play Red Dead Redemption 2 is to turn off aim assist, turn the sensitivity of the aiming higher, and use first person mode in the gun fights. A lot of people claim the game is too easy, and they're kind of right. In my opinion playing the game this way enhances the experience and the immerses you even more than the default mode.

Sonic Unleashed, at least for the people who complained that the Werehog gameplay was very boring because they beat it with just the bears combo, when if you actually unlock a bunch of the moves not only does the combat get easy more fun and flashy, but they also serve as jump extenders that make the platforming way more fun and flashy as well.

@UItraVioIet2 жыл бұрын
You actually probably shouldn't play GoT in Japanese unless you understand at least some of the language. The game was written in English, and when it was localised to Japanese, the Japanese localisation team obviously corrected a few things and made it more authentically Japanese. Which means there's enough differences that the English subtitles don't fit particularly well. It sounds so weird to say, but they probably should have translated the Japanese BACK to English and used that as subtitles for the Japanese audio.

A minor but important change to Mass Effect 3: whatever your Paragon/Renegade alignment at the end of the game is, that is the ending you should choose. No going about being a goody goody paragon and then choosing destroy. A Paragon Shepard is going to do whatever he can to save everyone, including the Geth, including EDI, AND INCLUDING all the destroyed civilizations stored in the Reapers. That's the only way to truly prevent the harvesting cycle from repeating again, by making sure that you are the ultimate power in the Galaxy, albeit a benevolent one. And if you are truly roleplaying as a paragon Shepard, you have to assume that you are only taking control of the catalyst, not the civilizations stored in the Reaper intelligences. Conversely, a renegade is going to look at this and say that the only way to free everyone from the cycle is to destroy the Reapers, destroy the Catalyst and destroy all AI currently in existence because ultimately that's what lead to the Reapers. It's a simpler choice, but it also leaves everyone in the galaxy free to make the choice to build AI again in the future. Synthesis is a cop-out, yes it is the ultimate evolutionary route based on the ideas of the game, but the way it goes down is kinda just, "hey we're all cyborgs now!" If this was a choice for the Catalyst, why didn't it implement the choice? Even so, as an option, this should be the hardest to achieve, available only to a truly neutral character over all three games. I think this would have been the way to get the players to answer the most questions... and to make sure that everyone played all three games trying for all three outcomes.

The right way to play Kingdom Hearts 3: 1. Play 1.5+2.5 and 2.8 first. The individual games don't take long to get through and most of them are insanely fun. 2. Play in Critical mode. It was added post release but provides a challenge even hard core gamers can savor. 3. Get the DLC and finish all the data battles.

Going real old school: Thief and the sequels. Playing on hardest mode bars you from killing human enemies and bystanders. Much more of role playing. You’re a thief not an assassin. Also on some levels hardest difficulty adds content.
