A month before the pandemic closed everything down, even my job, my girlfriend moved out and I was left with all the bills on a single income. So, I turned to minimalism. Living on a budget, removing bills and lowering bills. Ate healthier, sold unnecessary items, spent more time outside, since I cut off streaming services and cancelled my internet. Needless to say, I survived living alone, during a pandemic, and came out with a healthier lifestyle, and a positive mindset. The sacrifices were worth the rewards! 🙏😁

Yes I couldn’t agree more! As a mother of 5, one being a newborn I can attest that minimalism has helped save my sanity as well as time picking up. I have come to learn that just because I have kids doesn’t mean we need all this stuff, they actually play more with less and more intentional toys, we avoid the advertisements as best as we can and also my kids watch me declutter my own things and they adopted the habit all on their own so it wasn’t forced upon them which is awesome. Teaching them these values and concepts early on mainly through leading by example! Love your channel!

I used to believe it was cliche about minimalism that you SAVE money. I used to be miserable with trying to keep so minimal of everything. Then I started to make my home my happy place, just enough. Not cluttered, so that when I do go out I don’t buy things because I don’t “need nor want” the item because I have enough at home. When I gave up the idea of how much should I have, and the stark look and became my own version I realized that money was sitting in the bank. Yes, I still liked the stuff advertised or at the store but it didn’t bother me to consume with my dollars. I started writing a journal of how much money I spend everyday, it makes a substantial difference. I find myself holding onto my dollars and being grateful for the little things. I spend where it matters to me. I had a plumber issue this week, I was bummed and it would have set me back before minimalism and living with no consumer debt. Now, it was a bump. I’m grateful for the plumber for sure. One has to find their balance in the minimalism world and you will find the extra cash in the bank. Cheers.

But also I find I'm very focused, particularly in achieving my goals, my thoughts and mental processes are sharper and I have more clarity with my work. I've saved money by not shopping for stuff or clothes. I'm getting rid of four items of furniture because I got rid of the stuff that was in them.

So useful, thank you! I’ve been moving towards less stuff for a long while but have been forced to shed stuff, and to shed more stuff as I’ve suddenly lost the majority of my retirement income due to pension fraud. It’s hard adjusting to being below the poverty line for the first time in my life (I’m almost 71) and after being retired for nearly 10 years now having to think about ways of earning to supplement my income. But minimalism is the way to go - big time!!

My husband and I have been on a minimalism journey for the past three years. We have sold or given away approximately 70 per cent of our possessions and it has transformed our lives. We're both very neat and tidy people who like everywhere to be clean all of the time but because we had so much stuff we were constantly working around the house! I seemed to spend my life doing housework! Life is now COMPLETELY different. I spend so little time having to do keep my home looking nice. I agree with everything you say in this video.
@StephanieGiese2 жыл бұрын
One weird benefit I have noticed that has given me more confidence and a stronger sense of self is just that once all the extras and “just in case” items were gone, my own sense of style emerged. It seems strange, but I always thought I was just bad at decorating my house and picking out clothes for myself. Turns out, it was more that I just had a bunch of clashing items I thought I was “supposed” to have. I no longer own a single skirt or little black dress or scarf or pair of dress pants because I’ve accepted that I don’t use them. It was similar for home decor. Once that stuff was gone my closet and my home were only filled with things I actually used and liked, I started to realize I actually do have a style and feel better about myself. Plus we realized we didn’t need as much space as we thought. We downsized our house and moved to another state with a higher income and lower cost of living. Plus, I saved a bunch of money not buying things I know I don’t need or want. We were able to get rid of all consumer debt, fully fund or emergency fund, and start college savings plans for each of our kids within two years of finding minimalism.

I've been trying to incorporate aspects of minimalism in my life, particularly for mental clarity reasons. One obstacle for me is that I follow US politics very closely, and even though it exhausts me mentally, disengaging from it doesn't seem responsible as a citizen. I'm sure there's a balance, but I haven't found it yet. I understand that you'd want to keep your content here apolitical, but I'm curious if this is something you or others you know have grappled with, and what you've done about it.

My room is always clean, I'm so much more concentrated when I'm doing my homework(a clean desk is everything) and i just spend less money for random stuff like bag of candy or random food... And btw I also figured for myself that if I create good habits now, at this age, i don't have to worry about all of this in my future.. So yeah, I really believe that minimalism can have a huge effect in your life and you'll just get benefits from it.
