My favorit frog the daiwa d-popper frog does all that were well, both popoing, walking but I allso burn to get a reaction stikes in the opening when the more suddle ain't working, and it floats lika mf even after gething trashed by pikes. Got a new today, "clear toad" color, first clear toad I seen on the market here in sweden. But back to the subject, I some times but 1-3 steel bb rounds in the to get some rather effect and for it (as a popper mouth) sit lower with it's backside and makes less snaggy as that popper mouth can catch some of thouse lilly pads, not as much as it get snagged but enough to get out of "rythem". Works just as good for pearch as for pikes.

Pro Tip; When buying hollow-body frogs, the color/patterns on the bottom is all that matters, what's on top doesn't matter because the fish cannot see what's on top. So check what patterns/colors on the bottom when choosing frog lures!

Hi Matt really good vid and information. I really wish I had this video when I had started out fishing a frog because these are by far the best tips I’ve seen on KZbin for frog fishing and I like these very bite-size videos with no rambling like some other channels. The in the water demos really help us visual learners. I also really appreciate the way you title these videos even though I know that every time there will inevitably be someone in the comments complaining. While it is a little cheesy, it allows your viewers to search “90%” on your channel and instantly see all your videos for different baits which is extremely helpful. Also, what helps me remember to use your links for TW is bookmarking them. It couldn’t hurt to sometime encourage this at the end of a couple of your vids 😉Great job Matt and keep doing what you’re doing!

Good video Matt. I feel like too many anglers look at froggin' through what I like to call "vegetation blinders". Meaning that vegetation is the only place that they'll throw a frog! That's such a huge mistake...as you pointed out. They're awesome thrown under overhanging trees, in laydowns, around docks & boatslips, seawalls & even riprap banks! Also a hollow-bodied frog doesn't just imitate a frog. It can imitate a bluegill, a shad, a bird or a small rodent...all things that are on a bass's menu. So guys, take off the vegetation blinders and open your eyes & your minds up to, arguably the most awesome bite in bass fishing!

Just bought my first frog, I have never fished any topwater lures before. I have had 7 strikes and missed the hook set on all 7! I tried setting the hook as soon as the fish striked and missed. Next, I tried waitng a few seconds after the strike and missed. How do I set the damn hook?! It is so exciting to see them jump out of the water for the lure, I just want to land one.

We have, mostly, smallmouth bass and pickerel at our lake camp. I don't think the pickerel let the smallies into the grassy/lily pad areas. The teeth on some of those pickerel WOW. I have only really started fishing this year. Yes, I am 57 blah blah. That is another story. However, I sat in my Kayak for 3.5 + hours yesterday and for a large chunk of that time I just anchored in the grassy areas. Those pickerel hit my frog almost every cast. I learned that they really need that frog to be really moving. They will hit it when it lands but on the retrieve, they really go for the quick retrieval. I like to call them back stabbers because while I was playing with 4 of the around my kayak, if I move the frog towards them they took off. But they would hit the frog if they were behind the frog. With that, I also saw how fast frogs can move. So thus, pickerel like the fast movement. As for smallmouth bass on the lake, the Rapala original floater has been my go to with a gold belly. Cheers to you.

I got alot of big pike in the pads this year during the bass spawn here in Michigan on lake St. Clair...never had this happen before. Had to put on a wire leader after a frog got bitten off! If I use a medium rod rated for 8-14 pound line can I use a heavier line or would I break my tip?
@jakobsime4190
@jakobsime4190 3 ай бұрын
Line strength doesn't really matter as long as your drag is adjusted properly. For example, 15-25lb braid would work fine on that rod. Also, most rods ratings are based on monofilament line which is much thicker in diameter than braid at the same lb test strength.
@timtweet8149
@timtweet8149 3 ай бұрын
@@jakobsime4190 Thanks for the info. I was curious and know mono is larger in diameter but the lb test got me thinking. I've invest money into my rod and error on the side of caution when I spool up my reels based upon what rod I put or have them on. Again, thanks. Tight line yall!
@Michdave700
@Michdave700 3 ай бұрын
One effect of the medium rod will be softer hook sets, and those heavy frog hooks need a solid whack to drive them home. Frogging also is often best with long casts, and that also takes away from hook set power.
