@@Radican1Just go a little slower. IE instead of a 3/4 turn on a 6.5:1 reel on a quick rod twitch, go a 1/2 turn on a 7.5:1 reel, but most of your action is now in your rod. Even a faster reel your action is now mostly in your rod and just use the fast reel to bring up slack. Still a little quick but it's now where your patience come into play.

Amazing info. One thing I always do is play with the lure in front of me and practice how I will fish It. Some of the baits I make are sinking blend and some are floating blend which impart different movement and what not. Very importantto play with the bait and understand the ways of how to fish it before you start bombing it out there. Sometimes it takes that to understand it better because you can have the wrong reel ratio that your using and now you have to compensate because your not running a high speed ratio. Hope that helps. Anyways this man is a legend I go here for tips and tricks and I'm always satisfied.

I could be wrong, but with the camera view, it looks like many people focus on the wrong part of the rod. The end ur holding is only moving a small amount so u think ur just twitching the lure. Look at the tip of the rod to better approximate how far ur lure is moving.

This video is so so important for not only new anglers, but anglers who don’t spend everyday on the water. I’m sharing this to a lot of people. I will add, do you think it would be possible to do a third angle with a “hat cam” showing what the line looks like coming off your rod into the water? I tend to watch my line quite a bit to get an understanding of what’s going on vs watching my hands. Would be good with a hi vis yellow line or something

I think the hat cam is a great idea. I will definitely have to do that when I do a part 2 to this one. Thank you for the idea!

This is why I've tested a few rigs in a swimming pool where the bait is visible. An old Shakespeare/Zebco push button with a super low gear ratio allows for more mistakes in wind speed than an open bail or baitcaster. I still often like to jig with a short pole pushbutton in little nooks as I have the accuracy of a baitcaster without any of the other issues involved.

A great demonstration with the camera, it helps clarify the action differences for those who have not fished clear water or paid attention to what is actually happening below the surface with the lure. I am not sure the title applies though, except for those starting out. Each of those retrieves can have application beyond the level bottom demonstration. Knowing bottom structure and vegetation determines which of those retrieve patterns will work and when. I have used them all at one point or another with success.

@finmanpoozie47562 ай бұрын
What I typically do is make a short cast with the 1st few casts of a new bait in very shallow water just so I can see what the action is before even casting for real. That lets me see what's needed to drag it, hop it or whatever. Same for crank/stick baits/rattle traps/whatever. I want to see what happens on a fall, see what happens on a rip, twitch etc & see what the wiggle/action looks like etc. etc. etc. Look & observe. I also try to use fluro leaders on the end of a high vis braid. This lets me let a rubber bait fall naturally on slack line & the high vis line show me a slight change, even a light twitch becomes visible with a subtle bite.... can't feel a pickup on a fall when it's pure slack. I was using dark green but to my eyes it was way to tricky seeing that "surface twitch" of the line (not sure how to really describe it). I'd consider always having line run over your index finger on a bait caster because you'll often feel something long before a rod blank can transfer it. For spinning, I literally have the line over my index finger also for the same reason, no exceptions. After a few yrs of both it's just 2nd nature TBH but the payoff of doing it is huge. I never do a 9-11. I'm more of a 7-7:05, maybe a 7-7:10 tip raise type of guy because of the amount the bait moves...awesome job demonstrating that in this video. I get to make it a subtle rise & fall by lifting the tip, or make it more so with a slight snap of the tip (to about what a 9-11 would be probably) so i'm not risking being in an uncomfortable hook setting position with a high tip. I'd like to maybe when using just the reel for dragging a bait along, I don't keep the rod tip pointing down too far. The video was parallel with the water it looked like, and that's perfect IMHO. I need to be able drop the tip, introduce some slack & then jam the hook home on a rod tip snap. If a rod tip is too low, that hook setting slack just doesn't happen and a hook can just be pulled forward (esp on EWG types of hooks)...getting the net wet then is more luck esp on largemouth I'm not sure how many guys think about other downsides of the 9-11 rod lift: When there's a strike around that 11 mark, there's not e heckuva lot of room for a hook set then. That's always been my main reason for not doing that drastic of a lift & fall. I want to always keep my rod tip in place for a hookset without introducing a ton of slack line to pick up. About a week ago, I compared a Shimano bait caster. These are the results from Shimano's site. Same model, different gears: 6.3:1 = 25" line per crank 7.2:1 = 28" line per crank 8.2:1 = 32" line per crank it's a maximum of an extra 4-7" retrieve per line. Slow down, speed up cranking but I'm not buying into the marketing hype of others with "need a 8:1 ratio to keep up with a bass heading to the boat" PFFFT marketing!!! Nothing more...I can reel faster, lift my tip to pick up line, take 2 steps backwards or whatever. It's also a lot less torque on the high speed reels IMHO. I've told a few @docks..."if cranking faster is too much work, then give up fishing" :) :) ... I'd rather spend the $ on tackle, not reels, also IMHO This is another phenomenal vid!! I am seriously impressed. If (IF) I ever post vids, I hope to be as thorough as you are in yours.
