OK; time for a little musical trivia. 5:52--The music in the MCI commercial is an excerpt from the "Ode To Joy" section of Beethoven's 9th Symphony. (Yes, the complete movement includes several variations of the famous tune.) 7:22--The music in the American Express commercial is "Getting Sentimental Over You" by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. This commercial went retro even for the time, because Alpert and his band recorded that back in the 1960's.

Watching these reminds me how much the early 90s were really just an extension of the 80s. I'm too young to remember the numerical decade of the 80s, but I do have some memory of the early 90s. Things started becoming different around the middle of the 90s. It was gradual I guess, and for me I don't really remember it since I was so young at the time.

0:00--I've commented on several 1970's and 80's volumes about how well I remember the beer commercials, even though I was too young to legally drink the stuff. Fast-forward to 1992--the year I reached legal age (LOL)!

The tampon ad was referenced on Beavis & Butthead, and who could forget the Simpsons' homage to Chicken Tonight? "Do you guys know any song that isn't a commercial? I FEEL LIKE CHICKEN TONIGHT!"

@StrangeKindOfNormal The one closest to me had the "old" signage on the building until a few months ago (though it switched to the current free-standing sign roughly about the time the current logo was introduced).

Funny thing is that Playtex was the first company that made feminine hygiene products, before that women just used cloths and had to keep washing them and before that Playtex was making affordable bandages for the battlefield. Once the great war was over they reworked the product so the company wouldn't go under. :3

@SantinoRC89, when food is shot digitally, as pretty much everything is shot these days, it tends to look like plastic and/or metal. The same goes for people, air, trees, and well, just about everything. Film looked so damn good. I have no idea how the entire world got hoodwinked over the last several years into believing that digital was the ultimate. I guess as long as you put "HD" next to something, it just sounds cool (even though film is actully higher resolution than HD digital.)

@sugarrrsmack Yes, but that's been a cliche for a long while - "Not your mother's this" and "Not your father's that." But you're right, that slogan is kind of pushing it.

Were those women in the Michelob commercial actually wearing nice, fancy-looking dresses while bowling? I'm surprised no one mentioned that Frasier's ex-wife in that Cheers ad was played by Emma Thompson. This was pre-Oscar, which probably explains why she didn't even get mentioned in the ad. Still, this was after "Dead Again" had come out and been a hit. Maybe the thing to do if you have a cold is not go ice skating outdoors.

Why was the Fresh Prince said to be "making it safe for Americans to laugh again"? Was that, and the flag graphic, just a Good Morning Vietnam-themed thing, or was there a "national crisis" of sorts around this time?

You know seriously what happen to everything. Everything is all screwed up now I mean everything back than was about peace, togetherness, love, family, respect etc. now this generation preach about it but if you really stand by it people would feel your a goody goody and you should loosen up but then they preach about it yet again I was born in the 80's myself.
