Hey bud, update, just bought a brand new 9000 predator today, 1-26-2024, followed your video, new ones have a secondary component with resistors and diodes in the wiring. Put the black and white wire together and unplugged both the sensor and the secondary control module to bypass the sensor. Just an extra step for the new style!

For those who can't figure out their generator issue, this may help: If you can't find a vid that matches your model's colors, brown and orange are the same wire. Mine is a 9k and it was orange+black, and green+white. Orange and red were left alone. I've seen it time and again... If the sensor is the issue (which happens all the time because they are complete garbage!) It will start and then turn itself off after a few seconds. Chances are, even if you wait for it to turn off, it's going to keep happening. If it starts but keeps turning off, (usually accompanied by a flashing light) bypass the sensor. If it won't start at all, (assuming you are good on gas and oil of course) check your spark plug. If it refuses to start (again, assuming you've checked gas/oil) check your motor brushes/voltage regulator. As frustrating as a problematic generator can be, these are your most likely culprits, and they are fairly easy and cheap to fix. NGK spark plug is available at NAPA and other auto parts stores (under $10). To get the motor brushes/voltage regulator, you can get that even on Amazon (also under $10). To bypass the carbon monoxide sensor, obviously you can see how to do that on KZbin. You can also find walkthroughs for how to change the other parts too. Hope this helps someone. I know this comment would have been a lifesaver to me on several occasions in the past!

I just finished the by-pass, and it worked, yay...only thing I did different was cut the wires after the connection, so the sensor wires and not generator wires were cut. Thanks for an easy presentation. Now, my tank looked like it had zero clearance. I tried to loosen the bolts and move the tank over, but came back to the same location when I tightened the bolts. So what I did was place a 1/16 thick fender washer under that corner, and now I have clearance. Thanks, and have a great day

Thanks for this! Brand new generator here that won’t stay running. I even bought an expensive exhaust extender kit…still won’t stay running. Predator is doing this to avoid a lawsuit if someone does something stupid. Love the idea of just gorilla tape over the sensor, will try that first before shorting the CO relay. Where has common sense gone that we need this level of “safety” on a generator??? We must be getting really stupid in this world…hey folks, don’t breathe exhaust fumes, it will kill you. Done! 🤦🏼‍♂️

I appreciate your video. I have this same problem with a brand new 9000w Predator Generator. I didn't go to the extent you did with yours. Once I saw where you pointed out the CO2 sensor's location, I just duck taped over the holes for the sensor and am hoping that it works. If it doesn't, I'll come back to your bypass circuit, and post the results. In the meantime, taping off those holes in the back of the sensor is working for me. My generator is in the open air, so CO2 isn't an issue for me. The only issue was having it shut the generator down when I need it to be running. Thank you so much for posting this video.

@@Whereisclay In the end it did not work, I had to unplug it from the circuit. I had forgotten about this, your video helped me a lot. I use these generators as backup power on my off-grid power set up to charge my battery banks when needed. For that to operate automatically on demand I had to design and build an automatic electric choke that works while the engine is cranking over. The automatic choke works perfectly. I designed it six or seven years ago and made slight modifications over the years as weak points presented themselves. As generators wear out I simply move the auto-choke over to the new generator. This allows the generator to function automatically whenever the electrical system needs it, 24/7. All I have to do is keep fuel in it and do the oil changes. If you want to see how it works, check out this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXrZZmt6q7Wog5Isi=KVZ8-YmAZHwc4sHI

I'm going to do the delete to my 3500, it has happened a few times to me as well. Great video! Going to do the c.a.r.b. delete as well as a new ngk spark plug. I might as well drill and add a couple more small hoses to the air box that terminate outside the 3500's enclosure that will give it a good cool-fresh supply of air. I'll run for a short while and check plug for a lean condition ( light tan going towards gray). If lean I'll adjust carb a bit to get plug reading a medium to a little dark brown and that should help it to run considerably longer per tank of gas. Thanks for the tip! The Old Man.

Looking at the sensor in this vid...it seems to have a series of holes ( like speaker holes) on the one-edge of the sensor. Would taping off the holes prevent excessive CO from accidentally tripping the unit?...or....does it NEED clean air to enter for it to function well? If it's only excessive CO entering as its functioning...then putting silver HVAC tape over the holes may do the trick

It would be ok if they offered the carbon monoxide detector as an option instead of as standard. Unfortunately they would discover that the free market doesn't want these useless features on our generators. 3 things that people do care about would be #1 better reliability #2 more power/cleaner power #3 less expensive.

If you have the 13000 tri-fuel I cut the wires (9 of them) in the middle where I could get some room and extended the wires 3 ft with irrigation wire so the sensor is nowhere near the gen. Can put it in a box on the floor and Co2 will never trip it again unless you really DO have a issue. It took over an hour and I have small hands and good dexterity so was not too bad, make sure you can get your fingers in there BEFORE you cut them. To get the sensor off with the stupid rounded screws I used a step bit and ran it forwards for a sec then Backward HARD and the screws came right out. After that cut where you can work on them and add as much lenght as needed to get to a clear air area from genny.

So mine ended up being the brushes in the generator were burnt up and melted which cut power to the CO detector which in turn kills the engine. Bypassed the CO detector and engine would run but not generate power. So after getting wiring diagram from harbor freight I was able to determine I had a bad brush set or rectifier. Opened cover and the brushes were crispy. Ordered a new set and now I'm back in business

@@Whereisclay LOL, I got my 9000 back in Nov 2022. I just took it apart and guess what! They must have seen your video because they rewired the whole thing into a relay. It has a 6 wire plug/connector going into the dayum carbon sensor that goes back to an independant relay. The relay then goes to everything else. Sneeky predator makers. I really like this generator. So I put it all back together and taped off the openings on the sensor. If it goes down then I got extended warranty so I will just swap it for another one. Just a pain in the rear if you know what I mean.

If it starts but doesn't generate power check your motor brushes/voltage regulator.

The CO shutoff system is a critical safety feature which can help to prevent the risk of sudden illness and death resulting from the accumulation of undetected CO, which is an odorless, colorless gas impossible for the human senses to detect. The health and safety of our customers remains our top priority and we recommend discontinuing any use of this product without a functioning CO shutoff system.

Turns out you can unplug every plug connected to the co sensor guess what still fires 🤷🏻‍♂️ I wish I could post a video kind of misleading video. If those wires had anything to do with the shut off if you tried to start them when they’re unplugged it shouldn’t start but, it does… so idk I’m a just unplug the whole thing drag it out into the yard and let it run. Mine was going off for no reason. So I’m a guess faulty sensor

Disconnect the plug for the white/black wire and jump the switch side with a paper clip or similar item and tape it up with some black electrical tape. If that solves the problem there is no damage in case of warrantee return.

LITERALLY JUST PUT 2 STRIPS OF DUCT TAPE ON EACH SIDE OF CO¹ SENSOR (COVERING SPEAKER‐LOOKING HOLES) AND WORKS GREAT... AT A TRUCKSTOP... SURROUNDED BY 300 SEMI TRUCKS IDLING IN TEXAS 😅

Cutting the original wire on the generator side is stupid. You just voided the warranty on a brand new generator. You should have cut the end off the sensor and looped the harness back to itself then you can plug it back in. Or even buy the very common harness plug ends from ebay for $2

He is right they really don't inspect the unit when you bring it back. Just make sure you get the extended warranty.
