I recently made an 90s vibe ambient tune on my other channel ‪@PolarityMusicOnly‬ 👉 • 23 times PaulXStretch ... and I wanted to document the process with this video. All you need is free plugins and a bit of time. Because we use #Triton and #PaulXStretch, it gives you this typical '90s atmospheric type of flavor.
get PaulXStretch here (clap!!) bit.ly/3S9L4P6

I love that all those old hardware units are being redone as VSTs. Many of them sound like the hardware for the most part. Now if we could only get the E-MU samplers as VSTs again. We need Emulator X4 asap!

TAL Sampler already has some emulated samplers built-in, like E.MU II, AM 6070, S 1000.

Yeah, at least you get that with a straight-up 100% authentic sound. And many of these cult synths usually rely on samples, like Triton, M1, Wavestate, etc. That also makes it easier to squeeze it all into a VST.

@PolarityMusic It's incredible the quality that was achieved with very limited memory back then in those 90s ROMplers. The M1, O1/w, Triton, E-mu Orbit, and Audity 2000. Some crazy good stuff.

@@jumpstar9000 Are the Korg 01/W sounds in the Triton VST? If not then I hope Korg makes a 01/W VST

@samwesaw No, unfortunately not. I agree it would be lovely if they did release that, though.

Gnadenlos alle drone-synth Hersteller mit diesem Workflow abgewatscht. Mercilessly slaps to all monetary-oriented drone VST manufacturers. Bravo.

This sounds amazing. Don't you find it hard or almost impossible though to be able to accurately determine what notes are being played? With both Paulstretch & Valhalla, aren't there some new overtones being created? I always find it hard to control things like this when I want to make a pad with chords in it. Especially when I'm using Paulstretch and/or Valhalla Shimmer.
@PolarityMusic

I play nearly all notes of a scale. The overtones are fairly manageable. I try to stick to and select simple sounds when I record layers; the complexity comes from the quantity of the instances. The more you do it, the more experience you gain on how many sounds you need, how sparse to play them, and how it ends up after stretching. Just try multiple runs, and you'll see how you get better. :)

For people who are just figuring this out like me, if you want to do this and export the audio, you have to make sure real-time is checked in the export options or else it'll come out all garbled. May be obvious for a lot of people but just in case. ;) I guess bitwig treats the paul stretch as real-time audio.

Yeah, I've noticed that PaulXStretch has issues, too. Thought it was just me! Seems like it might be a bug. So far, I've been recording the drones onto a new track in realtime.

Thanks!~~ Love to see this content. What about bouncing this down into a sampler? Is it possible to identify the root note after that and build some kind of chord progression? Or is it simply too complex with all the frequencies bouncing about? A bit like herding cats...
@PolarityMusic
@PolarityMusic 7 ай бұрын
Depends. If you want to pitch the sample afterwards, you might want to stick to octaves, or fifths and fourths. If you play a complete scale, the root of the scale becomes the root of the sample. PaulXStretch records into a directory and can also bounce the result, which is nice. Thanks for the dono ♥

Completely forgot that I made a video with the sampler like a month ago. It uses the M1 & the sampler and kind of roughly recreates how the Wavestate works: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGHJmICti9KHpck

Wow what a great tool!!, only a question: when I record a small piece the sound does not keep running like in your demo. Is this some setting I don't see?

is the "loop" button right next to the play button enabled?

@arjenarend7755 6 ай бұрын
Yes loop is active, when I hit play it does not play sound but I see my sample that I made. So weird this because I love this plugin and am ready to go :) and when I turn off input pass through I get big silence and not like you that sound keeps playing. Thanks for you fast reply but the way, very kind@@PolarityMusic
@PolarityMusic

Okay, that sounds odd. If play is active, the loop is on, a stretch amount of 2 is set, and the main volume is at -3 or higher, you should actually be able to hear something. Sorry it's not working for you.

Kinda reminds me of some of the grain playback in the Bitwig sampler. Wonder if this could be done with all Bitwig devices?

Yes, but the sampler can't record, so you have to do an additional step: play -> rec -> sampler.

@@PolarityMusic Great point! Maybe there's some Grid magic that could replicate. I think the Grid is like a Turing Machine. It can eventually do everything that can be computed. 😀

This also works a treat with AUM, Blackhole (or similar), PaulXStretch and any AUv3s you've got on your iPad. Very haunting when I tried it with a piano, Animoog Uno preset and an ID700 sound. Menacing but peaceful.
