I remember reading up on this case, to everyone saying the police are disappointing and not doing their job, there was a reason they didn't take immediate action. Just want everyone to know all officers were under one command (the chief) and he delayed the action of neutralizing the shooter by a long shot because he didn't want to risk the safety of his men despite the fact they were called to bring safety to innocent children. If anyone's to blame its the chief. He was charged for this by the way and so was another officer. The way they handled the situation was messed up. Several articles talk about how the police knew injured people were in the building and still decided to wait. Not to mention the numerous amount of updates that either didn't happen or were overexaggerated.

Sadly this happened in Texas. Abbott is a massive bootlicker and was initially defending the Uvalde PD. Nothing will happen to any of the 400 officers that showed up that day. Right now the Uvalde PD is "suspended" with pay but they have just been assigned to another dept. So they're still cops. And DPS is allowing officers to resign instead of being fired. That way they'll be easier to rehire later or get hired by another dept once the press cools down. Texas protects bad cops. They get exactly what they vote for: coward cops and coward politicians.
