I remember seeing an interview that a local news station had with the highest ranking police officer of this department. He was asked about this call and what could be done to improve call handling in the future. If I remember right, he said the operator did not violate any policies. As far as the operators' demeanor during the call, it was the persons last day on the job, so there could be no follow-up. He said this was more of a "customer service" issue. I really would have liked to tell him, "News flash Mr. Police Chief! Your "customer" is dead. I think that's going to place you pretty low on the satisfaction survey."

Dispatch is supposed to assist caller's in knowing what to do while they wait our first responders so that by the time these wonderful and precious human beings are brought to an emergency room WE HAVE A CHANCE TO SAVE THEM! You don't have to struggle to hear that Miss Debbie was a very sweet and kind woman who was terrified and needed help and kind words. I will pray with you and for you Miss Debbie! I used to work EMS along with dispatch. I am stunned at this 911 operator. I've sadly worked situations that did not look like a positive outcome but everything in me HELPED my callers or patients. This dispatcher did nothing to help.. I would have advised her to TRY to break a window using anything in her car. I would have prayed with her ( dont care if against rules). The coldness in the dispatcher's attitude amazes me. NOTE to everyone.. KEEP A WINDOW PUNCH IN VARIOUS PLACES in your car. God rest her soul.

@@jeremyrichards1388 YES. So very sad. We can also put flotation devices in our cars. You'd be surprised at how many common things will float enough to keep you up till rescue. One thing that I hope I misunderstood but it seemed dispatcher had a long delay in sending the right people. Also, there may have been people in the crowd calling 911 and I did not hear her ask others at call center if there were linking calls for directions to find her faster.

@@BeautyIsMyLife YES, exactly. That's where you calm the person, using what works for them. You, at that moment, are their lifeline. Sadly, cars nowadays won't allow windows down or doors opened if the water is at certain levels. I've heard dispatch use many ways to advise to break, kick a back windshield open. Long shot, but die TRYING, not being scolded. I really think those bystanders may have been calling 911 and you ( should) alert all members taking calls to be on alert. Getting the location fast is very urgent. 🙏 ❤️
@BeautyIsMyLife
@BeautyIsMyLife Ай бұрын
@rachll7904 yes this is a failure as well because the 911 operator said there were other people watching that called in, so why couldn't they have gotten more information on her location that way? I've also heard that you can take your head rest out all the way and use the prongs to break out a window if you hit it the right way. Seeing as how she said the water was up to her neck at that point they should have been advising her how to get out she still might have drowned but it would have given her more of a chance. They should have given her advice on how to float or whatever they could to save her life.

I was driving on the highway and the roads were clear and out of nowhere I found myself in a flooded part of the highway. I took the nearest exit and the roads were flooded.
