@@02honeydew from the second it started spewing smoke in that Hoonigan vid I KNEW they were in for trouble. Then they had boost leaks...and no proper dyno exhaust...and no A2W intercooler...and no heat wrap on the components...and the list goes on and on and on and on. I really, REALLY hope Dan's firewall is insanely strong, because that motor is going to eat itself with this tune.
@CtrlAltSk8
@CtrlAltSk8 4 жыл бұрын
@@spdcrzy kinda sad really. Dan's put his trust in these guys and they've kinda made him look a fool. And honestly they should know better. Dan tried telling them it was spewing exhaust gas and they didnt even realise. They then see its pouring black smoke saying how its starved for air yet he opts to "bump" the fuel. You literally just established it had to much fuel. And then it loses power as if they didnt already know that was about to happen.
@dylanshandley1246
@dylanshandley1246 4 жыл бұрын
CtrlAltSk8 i agree, it is kinda sad. Dans a really good mechanic that really does know his stuff, it’s just that diesels arent a part of that so he came to these dudes who are meant to know their stuff and they’re shafting him. Dans seen Old Smokey F1’s truck and that’s got a 1400whp (I could be wrong, that’s just off the top of my head) Cummins in it that’s got a big intercooler for the charge from the first turbo to cool down in before it goes into the second turbo, he’s got a bunch of cooling and everything. The only problem I’d wager Gale would have with his truck is that it’s belching smoke too but that’s a really common thought process to people that gale has more or less individually started changing.

Not exactly. The 1000 horsepower goal is achievable on stock parts but the peripherals are at their limits. Look at it this way, if aerodynamics prevent reaching a top speed goal because drag prevents it, how much power would it take to defeat the aerodynamics? There are cars out there that can do 200 mph on 800 horsepower but the Bugatti Veyron needs well over 1000 to get to 225 mph, but needs 1250 horsepower with 4 turbos to get to 255 mph. See my point? Air intake into the engine is that aerodynamic barrier. The last thing you want to do is create supersonic airflow in a turbo engine. Gale has his work cut out for him.

This is why Gale Banks is the LEADER in making power in a diesel engine. Pure science and physics at work here quantifying not guessing what needs to be done. Who would have ever thought tailpipe back pressure could seriously impact horsepower to this degree, 61 horsepower by changing the piping?! WHAT?!.... I had no idea that there was that much weight on the pistons to drive exhaust gases out of the engine. I can't wait to see the next episode with the all the improvements Gale is bringing to the table.

Great informative video. Loved the section on boost vs. back pressure. My new ECU (Adaptronic) uses this measure as the load axis in the fuel and ignition tables. Knowing the differential pressure helps optimise the system for efficiency, and allows the tuner to make informed decisions on how far to pusch past that efficiency area. Also where the 'stop' point is and whats causing the limits. keep up the great work.

HOLY MOLLY, WHAT AN AMAZING CLASS! Only reason I got into turbo'd cars back in the late 60's was MR. GALE BANKS! I would read everything I could find about his work on turbo engines and apply his principles to my cars. I once ran a small block Chevy Vega with turbo setup that no one knew was turbo powered. Beat the heck out of many "Big Block" motor cars without them knowing what the hell just happened. They were very confused because my car idled just like a factory unit and no nitrous tank or connections were visible. THAT was a lot of fun. My respects to you Mr. Banks. I wish all my school teachers would have been like you.
