I love that shower pan shimmy dance! I'm very interested in this system for my bathroom reno. It looks like this custom pan is completely different from the standard ones. This one looks like its solid with a flat bottom and much tougher. The regular one has ribs on the bottom and made from foam ( I found a video on home depot that shows the regular one needs a 1 inch Type N/S mortar bed, not thinset like this one)

It all depends. I was a car mechanic (certified master tech) 18-38 but got tired of all the chemicals, did some service writing and then went into IT work into my early 50s but got tired of staring at a monitor all day long and started doing handyman work on my own in my mid 50s doing a bathroom remodel with a tile shower right now at 69 yrs old.. I could have never worked as a helper or for a company at 55 but working on my own 5-6 hrs a day for 4-5 days a week is doable even at 69 is doable.

Great pan coach ~ we looked at this option, but since it actually cost more that a traditional pan BEFORE any tile are installed! So went with a one-piece shower pan as there is no tile needed and the failure rate is the lowest of any possible shower floor installation. My wife loves it!

I am planning on a bathroom remodel soon and absolutely love the fact that you've introduced me to this Tile Redi system! It seems foolproof for a beginner and takes care of my worries of it leaking at the corners like you described. My question is which version of this do you prefer/which is "better"? This pan you basically treat like a giant tile with the thinset, but the other pan you have to create a thick bed for it to sit in and bond to. I feel like this pan is easier install because you don't have to fiddle with the thickness of the 'bed' of thinset like the other. What are your thoughts on it now that you have used both? Thank you for all of this fantastic information you provide! The videos are always entertaining and it's fun to learn a new thing!

Or maybe I just go for it, LOL. (little O leak). Thanks...

Isn't a rough surface the exact reason to back butter for the best bond?
@MAGAMAN7 ай бұрын
A rough surface will grab the mortar very well, so you don't really need to back butter. The only reason I woudl think you would is if you are unsure of your skill. I'm not an expert tile installer, so I always back butter when I do work on my house. I'm pretty sure that the tile would be fine if I didn't but I would rather err on the side of caution.
@rjmaloney72957 ай бұрын
@@MAGAMAN the reason for back buttering is to create as close to 100% coverage as possible. Rough surfaces create voids. That’s why we back butter tile, because of the not smooth surface.
@TileCoach7 ай бұрын
Its a rough surface, not really lugged like tile is. But good question! Back butter wouldn't hurt, just not sure if it would help in this case.

this right off the Ready Tile instructions :DO NOT PLACE THIN-SET DIRECTLY ON A WOOD OR GYP-CRETE SUBSTRATE. FIRST, WATERPROOF THE SUBSTRATE WITH A FLUID APPLIED WATERPROOFING MEMBRANE, OR NO. 15 OR NO. 30 ROOFING PAPER SO THE WOOD DOES NOT ABSORB THE WATER FROM THE THIN-SET
