This channel ROCKS! I am planning to put in a basement shower and the pan scares me to death. But seeing this video tonight, I’m very confident about doing this now. In fact, this help me so much in some design considerations for the bench. Thank you so much guys. I will be reaching out to you in the next couple of weeks and will do a FaceTime or zoom call with you. Thank you so much for what you do.

Hello again. I am looking at the Tile Redi pan and bench. They also have a flashing for connecting two sheets.Thank you for making such great videos. Also, their products are kind of expensive and I’m watching your other videos to see if there are less expensive so I’m still weighing my options options as I have no experience in any of this.😂

I have watched a bunch of your videos and have to thank you for all the advice and techniques you show. Seeing you uncover mess after mess just shows how absolutely on point you have to be for an install to last. I really like that you show and explain the fundamentals from studs to grout. I have watched probably 50hrs worth of videos through my shower install and am 100% confident with everything I have done so far. Its about time to cover it all up with tile, wish me luck! Side note- the redo was because of foundation issues immediately after home purchase, original shower was “new” but I never used it….thank goodness. It was tiled right to drywall and tiled right to the 2x4 curb. …removal was easy

What holds the base in place if you have the aqua membrane preventing adhesion to the wood floor? Wouldn't it be better to screw something like a thin Wonderboard or glue a wall/floor membrane down to the wood first so that the base has something to adhere to. I use your shown method when I install fiberglass tubs and shower bases. But they are screwed in place thru their mounting flanges. Thanks for your awesome content. You ROCK!

When installing the pan, why not use a 1x3 standing on edge in that 1" space on both ends around the concrete? Lower pan into place then slide the 1x3s out and let the pan drop into place. Great videos!

love the vids man. I have notice you tend to do a hybrid system what I mean is combine different materials of waterproofing and shower systems. Are there any warranty issues that you now of for using different materials if there was to be a leak where a manufacturer would say it failed because of different materials used. Also, that piece of drywall looks like standard drywall are you wrapping that with a membrane that area is in direct contact from the slope of the Bench. Hey keep up the videos I've been learning a lot from you. Thanks coach😎

Isaac, could you place 2x4s on edge around the perimeter to give you the mortar spacing? Then pull them just before setting the pan? Also is it “easier” to use the “black” pans and just use thinset?

Thats actually a good idea. The flat bottom is easier, I hope they come out with a flat bottom for all their pans

Hello, quick question. I’m getting ready to install a redi tile pan. The bottom where the ribs are has a coating of loose particles like a sand. Does that need to be rinsed off or does it matter. It appears to be purposely added like maybe a release for the mold. I would think it would make it harder for the mortar to bond to pan. Help
@TileRedi_US4 ай бұрын
No need to worry about rinsing off the pans before installation. The Type N or Type S mortar will bond to the bottom of the ribbed pan.

They do have the banding now. I am trying to install this in a basement where I only have drain pipe sticking up 2 inches out of the floor. I called Tile Redi and they don’t have a clean solution for basement floors because their drain sticks out 2.1 inches below the floor line. Unfortunately, this may not be a solution for me. 😢 what would the @tilecoach do?
@TileCoach3 ай бұрын
Remove the concrete around the drainpipe with a chipping hammer

mason for 45 years. biggest mistake I've seen with mortar mixing is not mixing it long enough. mix at least 5 minutes. walk away for about 5 minutes and check it. if it seems like it setting up it wasn't mixed long enough (the lime in the mortar takes a while to combine properly and, the older the bag of mortar is the longer it takes)

I love this system but spreading all that mortar and stuff is insane. They need to make flat bottom pans standard and then you just put down a little mortar almost like setting ditra. I've also thought about filling the ribs beneath with cut pieces of redi board sandwiched with mortar then you just put down a thin layer beneath the whole thing.

Why is it every 4-6 months it’s a new system that your “really love”. I know you say you’re not sponsored but it really seems like you are. Now it’s Tile Ready, before this late last year it was RSS, and I forget what system it was before that, then before that it was Schluter.
@TileCoach4 ай бұрын
Because I was just introduced to Tile Redi thorugh a recent charity project they helped on. I've found out through 3 years of consulting DIYs and pros that not everyone can succesfully mud a shower. And if a better system comes out, you will see me making videos on that one too! I still recommend other systems for other applications. They all have their place, but this is the only one that has an integrated splash wall, curb and drain. All the others have to be "put together" on site.

Why didn't you use their flashing strip between the pan and bench. You wouldn't have needed the banding.
@TileCoach4 ай бұрын
Because the flashing tends to bend out in places and the band lays flatter.
@alwaysvacationing53413 ай бұрын
I understand what you mean. You probably could apply the tape like you would the Z flashing with part of it going vertically up the 2x4s. Maybe put some extra blocking to staple to. Then tape like you did over that lower overhanging tape and seam. Make sense? @TileCoach
@Mike-b3v4 ай бұрын
Actually 2 things. 1- I use ice shield ( no tar paper ) there a big reason why. ) no one I know does this because there cheap or don’t see why 2- unfortunately I have had to rip these units out. Install seemed fine except at corners or bends on bench they snapped. If I had a customer push. I’d tell them use a fiberglass bottom and tile the walls verse using others like this
@davidribeca17454 ай бұрын
Isaac / Ready pan I don't care for the horizontal joint between the seat apon and where the pan turns up the wall! A ship lap joint between the two would make more sense than that. When you water proof a seat with sheet goods we turn up the wall a minimum 6 inches. How is the 1 1/2 turn up the wall be enough? We also water proof the vertical section where the wall and front of the seat in that corner at leat 6 inches . The ready pan has nothing! Does backer sit on top of the part that is turned up the wall or infront of it? If it sits ontop than there is another horizontal joint in a bad location!

How is Schluter easier? I've used them all. I'd challenge you to a race putting in a schluter pan vs a tile redi pan! Seperate drain, pan, curb, corners, banding etc. Where are you located? We are having an event in late September if you'd like to come out.
