Y'all are living the life right on. We are going to be getting a taste of your UP ❄️🥶 winter here in northeast Texas next week. So I did what I used to do take the chainsaw and fill up the truck with wood. I'm looking forward to seeing your beautiful family adapt to being off the Grid and Thriving. Now that I am retired, I don't miss getting up in the dark and getting the fire going, doing all the chores, plowing the drive and heading to work (still in the dark). The best part, was driving home in the dark, doing all the chores and if I was lucky and I had tv reception, getting to watch the hockey game before going to bed and doing it all the next day. It gets better (and as frustrating as it can be at times, most of the time it is a nice change from what I was doing all day.) Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Jim! They are growing fast! What is fatwood?
@jimthompson99923 жыл бұрын
Here in the south we call it fatwood but it's just certain parts of an old dead pine tree where the resin has packed itself in...like down near the stump area or where a branch intersects the trunk...really rich in very flammable resins...it'll almost light itself and it'll burn when the wood is damp. It's kind of a pain to harvest it if you're old and lazy like I am now so you can buy it in bags or boxes...doesn't take much to get a fire started and it burns for several minutes. I still keep some handy ....( from Home Depot)!

3:02 Burning diesel for heat or as a firewood starter (more green, cause it uses less) is the similar. 6:43 Is the washing machine temporary firewood drip storage? My grandma had a microwave decades before she got rid of her ringer washer. 11:04 It will be nice when you have all the heat needs in one building. Maybe put the kitchen & bath in an area that can be isolated in the summer or have a separate summer use kitchen & bath.

Dig a hole under the floor big enough for a 5 gallon bucket. Flip the bucket so the open end is down and drill a hole same size as the drain pipe. Put 3/4” sewer rock around the bucket. There’s your drain.
