In this video, My wife and I along with our four daughters start digging holes for footings for our off-grid cabin build. It's hard work, but we all work together and still have a good time.
We also give you an update on our 8th try Well install.

Where is this at? What state? My uncle lives in Kentucky and there's thousands of sink holes in that state and I'm worried that you will soon experience a whole lot of sink holes because of those shallow shelfs you just dug up. That is definitely not normal. Yall will be in my prayers for your safety. PS...Love seeing the whole family working hard like that. I tried my whole son's life to teach him the trades that I know and he just never took to any of my teachings. But later on he ended up in the Carpenter's Union so at least there's that.

Those girls of yours sure are hard workers, most kids nowadays have absolutely no idea what real work really is, KUDOS to your girls, and that includes your beautiful wife, she can truly hold her own. Isaac on the other hand, needs to get his digging mode on, hide a bone inside some dirt for one of the holes needing dug and maybe, just maybe he'll dig, sometimes that's what it takes to get the "Supervisor" into gear. 🤣 Blessings Laurel 😁

Loved the video Chad. You guys are a rare breed. TRUE homesteaders. Hard workers. Content with what you have, where you are. I see so many of these KZbin so called 'homesteaders' that have more 'toys' than I've ever seen. And toys=more money and more upkeep, and more debt. Your attitudes (at least on video🤭) are always good. I am not impressed by people that "buy" everything they have. I am impressed by guys like you that work hard, improvise and build what they have. This is a 'true off grid homestead's channel. Keep up the good work buddy. Treat yourself and your family to a nice pizza party👍🎉

My dad had only 4 girls! His first grandchild yup girl! He loves it then my Son a year later, now they are inseparable! As the oldest of those girls almost 7 years then 11 and 12 years younger people thought they were mine ha ha! I worked right beside my dad in fields farming cattle Dairy in MN. Yes hard work! He was also a Mason, Did Plumbing,Electrical, and Carpentry! As well as body, gas and Diesel engines, Heavy equipment, and you name it I was right there! He had built our first home, and barn. So I learned a lot it's a great thing for a woman to be able to take care of most anything that comes her way in life. Don't regret a thing. But one caution we had 600 acres and did at least that in shares! Yes true Farmers but girls are not made to do this heavy continuous farm working or tearing Heaven Equipment apart and repairing all there growing years. Help yes do it all no, I'm 65 and had a farm accident at 17 broke my lower back but there's work that has to be done. So with a surgical metal corset brace up on the tractors I went! At 65 now everything came to a halt with both hips needing replaced and 8 herniated discs now with a thoracic break I can barely walk add the rare tumors under both scalpulas yea crazy dumb crap from over working. Osteoarthritis, carpal tunnel and more life later haunts me. But I am still walking looking at a few surgeries now and had to retire in 2001 I'm an RN. And go on Disability, but like I said I regret nothing mom died in 2018, dad just turned 91 I am his medical and my son his financial and executor. I take him we here he wants and needs to go. He takes care of himself and his home. But will not stop working on his tractor, dozer and backhoe! And cutting trees! I'm going to burn his ladders to keep him off the roofs! He drives us nuts! But life goes on and I have a wonderful family! Your doing great raising those girls and girls you can do anything you set your mind to do go for it!✝️💜🕊🌹💞

HI. You took a boat out on a creek. You might try using all that water. So very easy to clean in up. A pool pump and a chlorine feeder and you can have it all. After you get enough in tanks you can recycle grey water with very little effort. Even a barrel of sand. Set up a water treatment process for creek water. Also you would be cracking the nut that viewers. Different and interesting and 100 percent effective. Wishing you success from Demopolis Alabama.

If you have sufficient power and if the soil is loose enough, use a shop vac to remove the soil as your digging down beyond the reach of a post hole digger. Tying off to a tree just looks painful! With a 22” pier base, you don’t necessarily need a 12” pier column. That’s a lot of extra concrete.

@@9252LIFE 10” is optimal. This should provide some wiggle room for the hardware. If you can swing it, check out EZ-Tube (EZ-Crete), or other pre-cast pier options. (Available at Home Depot and lumber yards.) They are more expensive but you drop them in and you’re ready to frame. 34 piers is a lot of concrete handling, mixing, pouring, equipment, cleanup, etc. You might want to consider larger pier bases to reduce the number of holes needed. Depending on soil conditions, you would need more or less. Bring your drawing to your local lumber yard and they can calculate the dead and live loads to figure out how many (and how wide) of a pier you need. The EX-Tube piers supposedly can carry 135k lbs in perfect soil conditions. I’d be happy to share some video of how I installed the EZ-Tubes solo if you go that route. Keep up the good work!

That, and, when you have your string lines running around the outside of the actual dig, you can put the lines up, and take them down, as needed, so the equipment, and people, can run around as needed. Also, every so often, you should recheck the accuracy of the string lines, and batter boards.

I love the part where Dad and Daughter share a little quality time while repairing a bicycle. (Extra points that you saved the old bikes for parts, by the way! :D ) Not only is this a great parent-and-child bonding opportunity, but it also teaches the little ones about performing simple repairs and being responsibly self-sufficient, rather than just always "buying new" whenever something breaks or wears out. I wish more parents would do this with their kids; I can't believe how many times I've been negatively reacted to by children and grownups alike when I would either offer to repair something of theirs, or suggest helping them with repairs. So many folks nowadays are of such a consumerism mindset --- we are a very wasteful "throw-away society"! I came from a very-low-income household, so I never had new bikes as a child; I would just salvage old bikes (I was always stopping in at fellow-indigent-neighbors' homes and asking if I could "go scrounge for bike parts" from among the heaps of derelict bikes in their back yards; they'd usually let me) and either fix them up or strip them for parts from which to either assemble a usable bike (think, the cobbled-together "my first car" jalopies that '60's-and-'70's-era teenage boys used to build from junkyard parts, and end up with a perfectly-drivable sedan or pickup with a different colored body-panel everywhere --- maybe a red hood, a blue trunk, one yellow fender, one green door, and so on) or repair an already-existing one. Initially I just had a couple of "ancient" Western-Auto-brand "Western Flyer" Fleetwing single-gear-and-single-coaster-brake trail-bikes; my first ten-speed bike was a combination of about seven different bicycles, but hey --- it ran just fine, and I put probably well over two thousand miles on it, so who's complaining? Plus of course I'd always save any still-usable leftover parts, too, so that I could either replace worn/broken parts on my own currently-used bicycles, or donate a few parts to other neighborhood youngsters who would occasionally stop by to ask me to help them fix their own malfunctioning bikes. :D

@The Pervy Prepper The presence of extensive amounts of deep deposits of sand under the water table every where in the area doesn't mean that he is likely to face stability o deformation problems in the structure he's trying to build. It just represent a challenge for the water well he is trying to install without the appropriate drilling techniques. Of course if the excavations he is doing without stabilizing the borehole is happening in close proximity of an existing foundation, then the caving in of the wall may affect that particular footing performance. But this , as long as I understand is not the case. Hope this helps in clarifying the issue
