Hey dare you yoopers!!! I'm a little sore from rebuilding my sand bag house here in AZ. after we had more monsoon rain then the past 10 years. My 20' wall fell down and and in typical yooper work ethic I put it back up. The technical term for wet Adobe is squishy and miserable to untangle the barbed wire and rebar. I had to make several trips for more building supplies,( beer) as my months of hard work crashed. I still have to rebuild the root cellar and Sauna now too. When the going gets tough the tough get going!! It's a Finlander thing !! Sure wish my wife wouldn't have run off as she did help a little. I guess I need to import one from the U.P. eh? I remember my years on the farm in Eben Junction with only two seasons. Winter's coming and winter's here!! Thank GOD for your family to keep you going and teaching them all the things others 9nly dream about. GOD bless you and yours and thanks for making me smile. Okie Dokie then back to the salt mine.

Now the usual...those beautiful young ladies just never cease to amaze me with their willingness to help out! They just put such a smile on my face and warm my heart! And the misses...yeah, no more arm wrestling her for sure! Looks like the work on the cabin is following something my grandma used to say...the hurrier I go the behinder I get! The more work you do on the house the more you find needs to be done! You probably wonder "why don't we just burn it down and start fresh"...I know I would at times but when you do get to the point where its behind you, you'll be proud of everything you've done! As always, I really look forward each week to see you, your lovely wife and everyone's favorite bunch of girls go at it! Easiest way to drill a well is with a power washer. Put a spray tip on a pipe (we just used a male tip for air hoses). Put it inside a larger pipe. You will have to add pipe for the casing and washer at the same time. The larger pipe will be the casing. The water pressure a flow will cut threw the soil and water will wash the dirt out of the casing. You have plenty of water from the creek with a pump to keep the volume up for the power washer. Sometimes just a high volume pump is enough to do the job of drilling the hole. The pipe will almost fall in the hole. When finished, pull pipe up a little bit to let water in and drop about 2 feet of gravel in a hole. Drop your screen and pipe down till its on the gravel. Don't pull out the casing because it might collapse again.

It appears that we are both bonded by the same misfortune that everything we have to fix turns into a major issue before we can complete it. Each time I think something will be an easy fix, I turn up more underlying problems. I was taught that anything worth fixing was worth fixing well so I continue on until I get it done. Sometimes I throw more money into than it is worth but, I know it's not going to break down again for a long time. Man, that reminds me so much of the place my dad bought after he retired from the US Army in 1967. A horrid shack that started as a pole barn for lambing. Someone put hanging walls on it, tossed plywood on the ground and called that a floor. Every time it rotted out, they put more on top of that. Dad was the exact same way. This is a case of you'd be way better off working on your actual house. I know you need shelter for this winter and my heart goes out to you all. It ain't gonna be easy. Thank God you are such a tight knit family. Do me a favor. Be religious about NOT leaving nails sticking out of boards. Pull them out or cut them off. I stepped on four of them when dad was rebuilding our place. All four went all the way through my feet. Two up the leg bones, one on each side... of course! And the other two in the bottom of the foot and out the top of the shoe. Also, one on each side. Tetanus shots suck and worse yet, my aunt, whose answer for everything was turpentine. Yikes and yuck! So, when I see boards with nails, I nearly start crying.

I thought I had bad luck, until I started watching your channel.... So all I can say is thank you for sharing the bad luck you have along with the few bits of good. Hope you get that cabin fixed before winter truly sets in, and of course I hope that you can get a well. I kind of had a similar problem as what your having with your cabin, except mine was an old 1979 trailer, and the floor was falling out, and I refuse to go under the thing to try and fix anything due to the amount of spiders and ant nests under the trailer. So I am working on building up a couple buildings (bathroom, bedroom, and eventually a kitchen) out of bricks and concrete. It's a lot easier than trying to mill my own lumber, or repair the crappy trailer I own. Best of luck, and again thanks for not hiding the bad luck that strikes. It's refreshing to see someone who doesn't want people to think life is all good without any trials or troubles.

Get some liquid insect poison, (something with DEET in it), and soak a uniform (well we did our uniforms anyways.) for a couple hours in it, let the clothing you soak air / drip dry, and it will help with the insects.... Just DO NOT wear the clothing while it's still wet from the initial soaking.... (I had to do that, and it left me feeling shaky for most of a day. Pulling the house together permanently. Drill 2 holes in 2 plates in identical locations. Weld 2 bolts (so the bolts wont turn) in one plate. Drill holes though the other plates and make sure they are straight in. Put the plates with the bolts in from the back side. Use the bolts to draw up the floors and walls. Make as many of these plates as needed to pull it together firmly. My favorite thing is engineering and making things that fix unusual problems.

Hey Charles. If we put music in the background KZbin demonetizes our video. We’d get a copyright claim

I am sorry for your hassles Chad. Nothing is ever as simple as it seems. Wish I lived closer, I would come help as much as I could. Just keep plugging away, and do the best you can, as I know you will. It may never be perfect, but if it's safe and warm you will be fine. You have your family and some income, you're in good shape. Love your videos.

Off Grid Engineering--- Improvisation driven by necessity. It does help the creative solutions. You are blessed to have a great crew to work with and they are blessed to learn how to be self reliant when adversity appears. Trust to providence and drive on. It is interesting to see what happens next, everyday is a learning experience. GOD BLESS.

Geez Chad, you just can't catch a break! Between the weather and the foundation, you've got me shaking my head watching this video. One day at a time and one issue at a time. Keeping pushing. You'll get there. See you next time.

Hello the family! Unfortunately with all of the rain you're getting I bet the match wouldn't stay lit. : ) Your family is the first entry in my new prayer journal and I will lift you up daily. I'm impressed with your family as always each member is important and adds so much. You are all a blessing although I'm sure it doesn't feel that way to you right now...I get kind of overwhelmed just watching. You all keep walking taking each next step and you will get there, I'm praying for the Lord to send you HELP! I wish I could do more than just flap my gums as Judge Millian would say but I will flap them to the Lord. Hang in there, you're doing a good thing. God Bless.

Thank you. Very good to hear. We could use some prayers for sure. And hey, sometimes “flapping your gums” is the best thing! 😆 Have a great day!

Hi Chad, Naomi & girls I had my notification 🔔 on, but somehow missed this video? I went to your channel to see if you had any recent posts and found this one.. I just got done watching it🙂 "This Too Shall Pass" 🙏 someday when you look back, you'll be happy you didn't give up the off grid life. I'm proud of you all for your determination. It's a rough life, but will be rewarding. God bless,♥️ ~Heidi

Fixing the foundation is very satisfying. You get to see and feel the benefits of it in every other aspect of the house. Tough dirty work but you will be thankful when you are done. Having the chickens to help and Isaac to keep the girls on task are real bonusses. Thanks for sharing.

Time to make some drainage lines off the road in.
@9252LIFE3 жыл бұрын
We tried that but off the road right in that particular spot is all creek overflow and there is no place for it to go. Maybe if we took a canoe down the creek and freed up some dams. Not sure the problem there.

Clicked like for the guitar pickin' alone. Great video though. You're training them right. Those girls are fantastic workers and you're teaching them valuable lessons. Reminds me of my late dad and me. He took me on jobs at an early age and the experience has carried on throughout my life.
