Well, young man, I don't know if this will help but my granddaddy used to say that no matter how bad things look, it can always be worse! That being said, I'd still like to add my weekly "I'm just so impressed by those beautiful young ladies and your lovely wife for putting in all their hard work" part of my comment. You sir, are a very lucky man! God has blessed you! I'm sure you are quite aware that most of us on here dearly wish we were closer so we could lend a hand...I just hope our "moral support" is of some help. I do so look forward to your weekly trials and tribulations! If you had a Patreon page or something similar I'm sure folks would be more than willing to pitch in a couple bucks to help with the projects or at least have it so you could be a full time off gridder....maybe soon?? I'll just keep you all in my thoughts and prayers! Onward!👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸

I am so sorry for these new troubles . I wish I could advise you on what to do . My feelings are that you do only what you have to for this coming winter … then seriously think of relocating your cabin to an area with a stable ground … Then salvage what you can in the existing cabin and build a new one top to bottom … you are going to be at your land for many many years and time and money spent now will see you all living there rot free, warm and cosy … This is easy for me to say as an armchair observer … but surely a new build would be cheaper in the long run ? If you started in a modular system and completed one or two rooms at a time - perhaps ? On the POSITIVE side of things … this channel has really taken off … I am so pleased for you all … whatever you chose to do we are here to support you and send you love … 🙏☘️😘

When you build the new place have you considered moving closer to the road for access, and on the new site do the well first, if you need help for anything...well, concrete, etc you can hire a trade. Keep your job and save for the future. You all will be fine for the winter in the cabin-make sure you have lots of dry wood.
@9252LIFE3 жыл бұрын
We are 4.5 miles from the nearest road on the sketchy bridge side that can’t be accessed with larger vehicles and trailers. The other access drive to the road is 9.5 miles. So i suppose we could build about a quarter mile closer to the 9.5 mile drive. 😆 We’re literally out in the middle of nowhere

@dewfree58693 жыл бұрын
The main problem with your flooring or anything there on the cabin is your going to be repairing as you go. Reason is the extreme cold outside and the very warm wood heat inside causes condensation underneath.Now if you put plastic down on the ground and up on the sides of the inside blocks undeneath , you will save yourself some head ache make the sweat go to the blocks on the outside walls.dig a small trench all the way around to handle the sweat. the plastic on ground will keep heat in the under neath floors and help dry out the wood. Hope this helps!
@9252LIFE3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Unfortunately with all the blocks and patch work under here we can’t put plastic down but will definitely be sure to overkill the new cabin build come spring. Probably a good thing we’re seeing this so we know what happens if we don’t take proper steps when building new

Of all the channels I follow, I admire yours the most. It reminds me a lot of my childhood when my parents moved us down to Tasmania and we lived in a little cabin up in the bush. No power, no nuthin’! You have so much grit and determination, and you just keep on going. I love that. You should write a book one day about your family’s experience! Take care, and stay strong. Check out Patreon too!!!

Thank you. How’d you like your days in Tasmania?

@@9252LIFE I’d go back in a heartbeat!! It snowed there too, very pretty - until the snow would melt… and then the mud! Dad’s old 4WD was frequently bogged on the road up to the cabin. We lived in a little cabin the size of a bedroom (seriously), two adults, two kids, water from the creek. No toilet (not even a pit). Lots of snakes and 🤬 possums. It was pretty wild!! So much respect for you and your girls. Wish we could come and give you a hand in the spring, but Australia is a bit far. 🙃

7:00 Looks damp under there, and that s why the wood dry rotted and the blocks are sinking possibly.. is the ground outside the house pitched away? You may want to make sure that you have pitch away from the house all the way around before the snow really hits, because springtime it might turn into a swamp under there. get it so it's dry under there by pitching away, and take that mixer you have and pour large reinforced pads for the cinderblocks to sit on. Maybe sister those floor joists on the other side as well but up on to the foundation blocks. (not the whole length maybe 4 feet and run bolts all the way through sandwiching. the old joist)

Everything is pretty much toast under there. After all the damaged structure we’ve found we’re just going to patch it up and make it warm and cozy for the winter. We are in our RV at the moment and the cold is coming through the walls.

Tear it all up and start again, you can see the foundation move when you apply the load, not fit for purpose.

Yikes! I hope you will get through the winter in that cabin. It's in rough shape, but you are resilient and resourceful. It will be great if you can get the new cabin done next summer.🙂👍👍👍🤟

The two of you sitting there staring at each other, you can almost see the thoughts in your minds... her response "I love you" THAT is the epitome of a perfect married couple 😊

It also looks like there's dry rot. Personally cover the floor leave it too spring. Then take it ALL up joists and all, decide whats good and burn the rest start from scratch new joists, new floor.

Aw man! When you lit up the foundation, I was angry FOR you. I hope those repairs were done that way out of ignorance and not laziness. That being said, I look forward to your fix in the spring. Wondering what we would do in the same situation. My guy does concrete, so I'm sure we would be looking at involving concrete pillars. Also, I got to tell you, I kind of died a little inside when you painted the knotty pine white. Lol. I know not everyone loves it, but I do. Will be looking for knotty pine ourselves soon. Wishing you only the best, and I hope I run into your little family in town. As others have said, it's a joy to watch your whole family work together to accomplish things.

Thank you. After living in this small space for almost two years it gets quite tight and it’s amazing how painting a wall a bright color helps make it feel less tight.

I was loving the look of the walls of the cabin, then Chad started painting and I cringed. I've always loved the look of natural wood. Inside and out. Before my former adulteress found a man with more money, she would ask me to paint things made of wood. I'd tell her to go get plastic furniture from walmart, that's made in China and I'll paint that.
